I've tried Zooms and Blooke 4 piston brakes (looks very similar to the Meroca's) and got tired of the lack of braking power and lever pressure inconsistencies. Slapped on some Shimano SLX M675 2 piston brakes and they're a huge upgrade for a reasonable cost. Excellent lever feel and consistent performance. Well worth it.

Rotor size along with the longer hydraulic hose is probably the reason rear brakes always feel a little bit worse

@WOLFTICKVIDEOS2 жыл бұрын
Now that WOLFTICK budget!! LOL
@danboyes74772 жыл бұрын
I think someone's already mentioned that the issue with the rear is likely to be the length of hose, there's more area for fluid to squish and hose to expand which will make the lever spongy. You could maybe go down to a 180 front rotor to even things out a bit? If you swap the levers round (to the correct way 😂) it should prove the point. Might need some stronger hose. Great review, I definitely think the meroccas are worth considering at that price Stay safe gents 😂😎🍺

I always carry a 29 tube. It can be used on a 27.5 wheel and even a 26 wheel. You just need to fold the tube inside itself (like a telescope) to match the rim size. Width is more important. A large width tube may cause issues on a smaller width rim, but in a "pinch" it will get back to the trailhead.
@jasoncampbell28082 жыл бұрын
I've seen suggestions for the opposite. Carry a 26" tube because it will work on anything (this was more in the days before 27.5"). Maybe carrying a 27.5 is the ideal size to carry as a spare since it's the middle size. I used to use 26" tubes in my 29er to save on rotational weight. I also used 16" tubes in my 20" BMX race bike. 😂

Tick, this may be a good one to see if changing the rear brake line to another brand will help with the rear brake performance. This could potentially take you down a rat hole, but at least it sheds light on whether certain cables expand more or less which could impact performance. I can say I see feel the same difference with Shimano 7120 SLX 4 Piston brakes. The front had a tighter lockup than the rear. The primary difference is the length of cable. However, I can’t confirm if cable expansion changes as the cable length changes.

My two cents - I would rebleed and push the fluid from the bottom up. The bubbles will want to bubble to the top. If that doesn’t do the trick, the brakes may need to go. I have a set of M4 and had same issue. Jury is still out whether they are keepers.

So to answer your question, no i haven't ridden any downhill on the bike since putting the m4 brakes on. Just seams like mine are way more equal front to rear than yours. I like your idea of switching rotors F to R , not as a solution but you should get a dramatic result that you can use to put you in the right direction. I get why people are thinking hose, because you see that on motorcycles alot. I had a FZ1 that over 100mph you could pull the front brake lever back to the handlebars without much happening! Mtb hoses, even cheap ones, have Teflon liners though, just like braded steel hoses so that's not likely. You mentioned Patreon, I'm definitely a PG kinda person and I've lived through to much trauma to enjoy conflict and explicit language! If it works for you, great, you know I hope all you future endeavors work out!

You mention repeatedly the lack of modulation in the front and quick path to otb...moving down to a smaller rotor should solve that at the expense of possible heat build up. The decrease in leverage will allow you increased range in lever pressure without doing summersaults down the hill.
@NonLegitNation22 жыл бұрын
I've had that with my Shimano MT 200s where the front brake bites more then the rear. That's why I don't understand why I always hear people talking about putting a bigger rotor on the front and having a smaller rotor on the rear, I'm sorry but to me that makes no sense unless you like flying over the handlebars. I always use my rear brakes more then the front, just for that reason, i don't feel like doing a header into the concrete or some knarly rocks. Also i don't know if I just got lucky but I got my Shimano MT200s front and rear for $80 total from my local bike shop. So I definitely recommend people checking their LBS for parts.
@WOLFTICKVIDEOS2 жыл бұрын

@mtbboy19932 жыл бұрын
if the bleed was good enough, then I suspect the brake hoses are the issue, it's normal that the front will be more wooden feel, but power should be the same. But if the hose is not good enough the difference can be big. these brakes probably have cheap hoses that expand too much, resulting in softer feel and less power.What you mentioned about Shimano feeling better, i agree, so far all I've tested felt decent. But you might have under filled the rear brake, for equal feel I recommend to use a bleed black with pads out, if you do bleed, but if you do burp from top, you can keep pads in, and use a brake pad tool, to make sure there is a 1mm gap, the tool will take up the space, do the same for both front and rear, I have Hayes Feel'R tool for this, it also is a tool to separate pads, and use as a dummy rotor. To bleed the brake I recommend to follow Formula's bleed video. so connect two syringes, both with a good amount of fluid.

The problem with the m4 brakes is the cheap, spongy hoses. That's why the back feels weak. You have more cheap hose between the lever and the caliper. Mech brakes have the same problem. Longer cables have more stretch. Throw a quality hose on that back brake, and it will be fine.

Hey guys you're doing a killer job. No I would not buy pads that expensive for a mtb. The brake pads on my car are cheaper. Guys I'm 60 years old I've been riding BMX road bikes mountain bikes motocross supercross and side hacks. The only thing that's changed on me is my hair color from dark brown to gray hahahaha And I had a heart attack at 50 on my downhill bike had to hike out which I fainted 8 to 10 times drove myself to the hospital crawled to the front door and the guy asked me if I was on drugs. WTF. I lived. I'm still jumping I still wear no pads at all I have a 29er hardtail 29er front wheel 27.5 in the rear the cornering handles so killer and so do the big jumps. I live in lake Elsinore California you guys ever want to hit the most gnarliest killer downhill session get a hold of me I have some downhill stuff that would blow your mind I still bomb down to this day but now it's on a hardtail. I'm the guy back in the day that tested the parts with small manufacturing companies I broke handlebars going off Rock slabs landing on my head with no pads and walked out and drove myself to the hospital and I was 5 mi back in. I've broken rear shocks in half racing. Broken forks. Couple pairs of handlebars broken half. I was like the test dummy on some of these parts that I paid for. So anyways you and your pops are doing a killer job I love what you guys did I'm old had a heart attack now I'm really poor and I live in a giant motorhome after my heart attack. But I'm still bombing down trails. Cheers guys.O by the way guys I taught myself not to use the brakes as much as possible that's how you get the number one plate.

I’ve been really happy with the m4 on the front. It blows away my rear tektro 2 piston with new red tektro ceramic/metallic pads. I’m running the stock pad on the m4 and it’s still been pretty impressive. Wondering how much some good sintered metallics would improve it
