I like how Moll is just growling at first, threatening but not attacking. It's not until Mebh's in danger that she shows her true strength and becomes genuinely violent. Moll's smart, she knows these people could easily kill her so she played it safe while still actively showing her displeasure with the situation by growling, flattening her ears, and baring her teeth. However, all of that safety goes right out the window when her pup's in trouble, and mama instincts take over. Notice how she puts herself between Mebh and the soldiers at 2:13. She's just trying to keep her daughter safe Honestly, Bill and Moll are both amazing parents. They were just on opposite sides of the same situation. Bill didn't understand Moll, and Moll only saw Bill about to hurt or at the very least constrain Mebh.

And he sadly was a real person what’s interesting though is in Irish mythology werewolves or wolfwalkers were actually commonly knights sworn to protect the king given this takes place in 1650 and in 1177 Ireland no longer had a king and was under English control it makes sense in the movie that the wolves now only lived in the woods. Their protection was gone and while the graphic novel explains they were magic users that St. Patrick had turned into wolfwalkers as punishment for practicing witchcraft that doesn’t mean the king wouldn’t have found their abilities useful, but all the same if we are to believe that part of mythology applies to the movie then it still makes a lot of sense. Almost 500 years later they’re still being hunted by English people who fear them and refuse to learn and instead justify their fear and mistreatment by saying it’s the will of god. Funny how not much changes as time goes on and I say that as a Catholic who sees people justifying their mistreatment of those they don’t agree with for varying reasons as the will of god because he hates their kind as if love thy neighbor as thy love thyself and the story of the good semeritan aren’t in the Bible they say justifies their mistreatment of others and wonders how they can miss such big messages or overlook the way Jesus treated sinners just so they won’t feel guilty about how they treat someone

Holy shit I just now realized at about 3:46, when Lord Guy is giving his speech and waving the torch around, if you look at his shadow, the flame doesn't HAVE a shadow. I know obviously that's how flame and shadow works in real life, but it would've been so easy for the animators to just duplicate his frames and use them as an overlay on the background, which would end up including the flame itself. Instead, they went full realism and made sure to only show the stick's shadow, not the flame. Incredible attention to detail, especially since that movement only lasts half a second and would likely be completely overlooked by most viewers. It's a tiny thing they absolutely could have slacked off, and no one would care. I see you, animators. I appreciate you.

Indeed. What was meant to be a demonstration of his power is turned first into a circus, as Mebh's claims of the wolf being her mother are obviously not believed(at first) and then into a horror show, as this mere child proceeds to _effortlessly_ display strength, speed and agility that people thrice her age would struggle to achieve. However, the _best_ moment in this scene, at least in my humble opinion, would have to be the moment when Mebh reveals herself to be a Wolfwalker. Already on edge from the preternatural power that this wild child clearly possesses, the crowd all but riots when Mebh, blinded by anger at the horrific treatment of her mother and the pain of Robyn seeming to betray her trust when she needed her most, announces her intention to return to free Moll...and she won't be coming alone. An irrefutable act of power is displayed. Mebh _howls..._ and the pack, miles away in the forest, hears and heeds her call and command. This is proof that no force on earth could convince these people to be false: this girl holds the power of the Wyld, and she is _angry._

@@skylightdarkseal9517 If you've seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame, then the similarities of Lord Protector Cromwell and Judge Claude Frollo are there: both of them are men of religion (probably Catholic) are also in a position of power. @skylightdarkseal95173 жыл бұрын
@@DragonGoddess18 You make an excellent point. It's entirely possible, if not _likely,_ that Cromwell deluded himself into thinking that what he was doing was just, exactly like Frollo. I have to disagree with you on one particular point however: it is the _illusion_ of power(to be more specific, _control_ ) that is addictive, not the power itself. To quote the words of a wise creature, "Power is neither good nor evil, but its _user_ makes it so." Frollo and Cromwell could have been incredible forces for good if they so choose mercy and forgiveness instead of cruelty and oppression. That they choose the latter shows only that they were weak.

I love this movie. It has a great message about not persecuting wolves! It also makes me upset that my fellow Britons once wiped out wolves from our country, and that people still persecute wolves and kill them. It also bothers me that people still think they’re big and scary and that they eat people. They don’t! They are actually very shy creatures around humans. Wild wolves generally stay away from humans and pose a very, very minor threat to us. Attacks by healthy, wild wolves on humans are actually extremely rare. They also aren’t as large as some people think they are either. They are beautiful. They are vital, apex predators. They are far, far, far better to the Earth and all other animals than humans are. Yes, they hunt and eat meat, but that’s nature, and that’s what they need to do in order to survive. They actually benefit whole ecosystems a great deal and even benefit the prey species by doing this. Wolves also don’t build factories and pollute the air, drive vehicles, destroy forests or produce plastic. Humans (as a species, not as individuals - I love and care about humans as individuals) are the worst species ever!

Moll was smart not to fight back. She knew the lord protector would try to kill her if she did.

In the beginning, she’s reserved and only growling to voice her displeasure, but the moment her daughter was threatened, her maternal instincts kicked in and she decided to ditch her “No biting policy” just to protect her child.

Did you noticed something about Bill Goodfellow (Robyn's father) and Mebh's mother (sorry I don't know her name)? Bill Goodfellow doesn't care about anything wright or wrong (he follows whatever the lord protector says and always convince his daughter to follow the same, as he doesn't want to be separated from his fellow daughter), Mebh's mother also doesn't care about her territory, forest or her life (Although she knows she was captured and might be killed, she wanted her daughter not to save her, (risking the lives of Mebh and the wolf pack)). Everything they know about is to keep their daughters safe. ❤️
@alphahuner111610 ай бұрын
It's because of this I set Bill as Lawful Neutral and Moll (Mehb's mother) as Neutral Good. Bear in mind they wanted to leave anyway, so the forest doesn't really matter at that point. She does show concern for her pack (albeit secondary to her daughter). I say neutral because she doesn't follow the rules and laws of the land (set up by Lord Protector, but I may be mistaken).
