Native from PR that worked in Tourism for 5 years -just follow these steps: 1. Rent a car. Can’t get anywhere without one. 2. Best food is inland. Old San Juan and Isla Verde restaurants are tourists traps and too expensive. Take the rented car and go to the mountains. That’s where the good stuff is. 3. Best beaches are in the West. But do be careful and watch for rip tides. 4. Never ever go swimming when raining. 5. Stay away from La Perla. 6. Never ever ever leave anything in the car. Always take all your stuff or make sure you get a sedan and put it in the truck. You’ll thank me.

Mofongo (mashed plantains that can have pork, chicken or other stuff) 5. Mojito Cocktail 6. Coco Ice (shaved ice with coco liquid poured over it) You will love it after a few hours in the sun 7. Arroz Con Gandules with Shrimp and Chorizo meat inside the rice. It's like the Spain Paella of Puerto Rico 8. Fried Fish or Octopus Salad with fresh squeezed lemon and garlic sauce served with Yucca (a white soft vegetable) 9. Sancocho (it's a hearty soup with potatos, meat and more) but dense with flavor !! 10. Carne Guisada (Latin Beef Stew) 11. I went to Puerto Rico in August for our honeymoon (risky time to go but we were lucky). The Spanish was hard for me to understand, as I've only been exposed to Spanish in Arizona! We started our trip at Vieques --> Culebra --> Aguadilla --> San Juan. After spending time in smaller towns, San Juan felt too big and busy lol. I'd also recommend renting a 4x4 on all the islands. We ended up with a car on the mainland and it barely made it up the hills to pork highway! A local came to help push our car lol Also, the pot holes were HUGE! And sometimes lanes would randomly end on the highway lol. We took the ferry once and the rest of the time used the small planes. The planes are so convenient and worth the price! Every single area had amazing food and great drinks! From road stalls to fine dining. We were in Puerto Rico for 12 days, and it still wasn't enough time! Great video, very on point! I can't wait to go back again and travel some new areas someday!

As a local, I can say Wolter you have done a great job summarizing the factors that make Puerto Rico one of the best tourist destinations in the world. To add if you are looking for amenities found in major cities stay close to San Juan and it’s metropolitan area. Though if you are looking for a more private getaway there is Rincon, Cabo Rojo, Luquillo and the eastern islands(Vieques and Culebra). PS San Juan is more than Old San Juan. Just like New York is more than just Manhattan.

If your goal is to get in touch with the spirit of Puerto Rico, and experience the music culture and be apart of the events like Bomba, Musica Jibara would Cabo Rojo be the best place of these or are the others good too. Something about that really speaks to me personally.
@mmmmmm8606 Жыл бұрын
@@SaltedMallows Cabo Rojo was founded in the 18th Century. It’s not a major city, it wasn’t a slave enclave. It’s just a tourist destination and a major gay meeting spot. At 2:06 is the street that leads to the Fortaleza, or Santa Catalina palace. That is the governor's mansion and is the oldest government building still in use since the 1500's. While the forts of El Morro and San Cristobal can be visited for a fee and you can roam until closing time (not that you'll want to spend your whole day there), the governor's mansion can be visited for free. However you need to coordinate with the guard to have a tour arranged and you must stay with the tour group. You must also sign a release from liability because some of the walking areas are uneven, especially the stairs going down to the dungeon (it's just a small circular room at the base of the oldest tower).

@@giovannitirado6229 A year ago, deep at night, we drove up there to Finca Candelas - and met an oncoming group of Caballeros/horse riders without any single light or reflective spot - nothing visible in them - on a very twisty and narrow road. It is still one of the strongest impressions of the visit. Also, there was a really nice cheap simple eatery there with great mountain views. I returned yesterday from 3rd trip there. Thought about El Toro for this time, but we were unprepared.

You seem to have a good set of videos, I should look more closely, especially at those about Arizona: I have some memories of camping there (while trying to find a non-private land - we managed to find some forest near Williams, I think).

I was raised in Luquillo you have 4 different beaches there El monsserate and the kiosks are there, Playa Azul, la pared and then a farther beach from LA pared. Please, people, if you go, don't swim in LA pared that is for the surfers. Another thing people love to sing and dancing. Have fun .great video.

Enjoy the travel videos. To be honest most I will never visit but I was brought there by your video. We have visited PR. Worth visiting, memorable trip, and as a US citizen it opened my eyes to our relationship and history together. While you used the term "coming from the US" a few times, it is a duel country. Meaning it is PR and US. Talking to residents more than once I heard how they were familiar with an area of the US mainland while in the military. Proud US veterans for over a hundred years. Hope to visit again.

When (what months of the year) is it the best time to go? Puerto Rico has been on my travel list for a while, but they've been devastated by hurricanes and earthquakes for a couple of years.
@giovannitirado62292 жыл бұрын
Avoid September; that's when about 90% of hurricanes pass through PR. From November until June is fine. From December to March doesn't rain that much and temperatures are cooler (70 to low 80s F). July and August are OK, but it rains and is very hot (mid 90s). BTW, yeah, I live in PR.

OmG. I enjoyed your video so much. Not condescending, quite accurate, respectful and sensible. Thank you, but if I’m not mistaken, out of the seven bioluminescent bays in the world there’s four, not three in PR. I’ll do my research but overall you’re the bomb in presenting PR. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

Thank you so much for sharing. As medical personnel, I’m looking into travel contracts. PR is on my list, and my research is new to this island. I will say, I hope it’s much different than my recent not so great 6 week experience on Oahu.

You make a good point about pricing in PR. I get the opposite, people telling me how expensive PR is. Then I compare to places in the U.S. and it's like everywhere, some places such as Washington, NYC, etc. are as expensive and then rural America tend to be less expensive. Utilities and imported goods is one area where things are pricey. after all, shipping to the island adds cost.

I’ve been to San Juan and that was enough to take up a week and a half worth of trip! It’s beyond beautiful and you MUST hit up a beach. I would also advise to rent a car or stay close to places you want to visit.

Lived there for over 10 years did not like the heat and humidity and the slightest breeze would knock the power off for days but you’re right they’re are beautiful beaches .but they’re also places you should not go very dangerous. Over $6 for a gal of milk.
