1. Don’t be shocked at how affordable great food is in Belize. He’s right. It ain’t super cheap, but even in the nicest restaurants, you’ll get awesome food in generous portions for very reasonable prices. 2. Don’t lose your water taxi ticket stub for the trip back! Otherwise you gotta buy another one. 3. Don’t expect air conditioning everywhere you go. Most restaurants are open air. 4. Don’t drink the tap water! Stick with the national drink : Orange Fanta. Always use bottle water to brush your teeth. 5. Don’t be rude or act like a jerk. You are a GUEST in their country. And Belizians are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Don’t be disrespectful to them.

I agree with all of the above, except the tap water part. You can brush your teeth with the tap water, its just not the best drinking quality

Belize is a gringos paradise. The country is flooded with tourists from Canada and the U.S. likely because English is spoken everywhere. One tip is to try and support the local business from “locals” like the people born and raised there. Too many expats have taking over and running businesses there and are making it difficult for the local people to participate in the economy. For natives of Belize the tourism is primarily their main source of income.
@annawinter46294 жыл бұрын
yes you are so right and it makes me cry to see how all this tourist-business burns out this paradise. Especially because I knew Belize different, me and my family lived between 1998 and 2002 there....why every paradise has no better idea to make money out of tourism for there survive....didn`t they survive before....didn`t they see what will come and what it will take away. Sorry but as long as a human being is visiting an other part of this world and needs accommodations, service, food and fun stuff like he has it at home.....ooh how nice to swim between all this sting rays and snorkeling along the reef for entertainment......no Belizean would do such thing for fun....and you want to know what`s the saddest part of it all....on one side the people are trapped in making money to survive and on the other side they have this incredible childish hope to achieve a life like us in our rich countries, even not knowing how life in a rich country feels like. Nothing against running around the world to meet other cultures and landscapes but please come as a guest and respect what you find, go local. Best wishes to all

Down behind him and on the right (same as Pop's) is a Chinese restaurant called Maxim's, The only place I know you can get kumpo. Down on his left is a place called Ice Cream Shoppe. Nice Stuff. @@katewiesbrook2992 You rarely see crocodiles here, unless you're in a swampy area, which I presume you won't be going. Also summer isn't a rainy time, it's just very hot, there might be a few showers, but it's hardly heavy. The showers would just last 3-5 mins. It's stronger at the equator because it's more overhead/direct. You are probably right as well, but I know when I went down there, the sun definitely felt more intense than when I'm up in the states. My niece loves Belize she has traveled there many times for work. She would move there if she could. She is working more with wildlife and environmental but she says that if you ask the locals they will tell you what is safe or not.

We we're lucky, I had a 4 yr old and we saw a really small frog jumping around and tried taking pictures. The second I tried to reach out to pick it up one of the locals stopped us and told us they're poisonous (skin irritation). I was really glad they were with us at that time.

I just got back from Belize, stayed in San Pedro. The people of Belize are so welcoming and friendly. However, there are some scary people too, be smart when out and about. There is a curfew of 9pm for everyone. Loved your video!!

As an American moving to Belize, I can say: Don't be afraid to explore the country. The tourist areas are more expensive and crowded. The mainland is quite different from the cayes. Pretty spot on with the rest of it, especially the ATMs.

2015 my wife and I were in Port on a cruise. There were armed guards at the entrances of the port and we were told that a couple of tourists had been killed a month earlier. We were not allowed to leave the port unless in a tour group with a guide.

Served in Punta Gorda in Peace Corps in the 70s. Just before Belize was "Discovered," as a tourist destination. Interesting experiences.

If you ever had a picture of the Garden of Eden in your mind…Belize fits the bill. Have made 3 trips there (church youth ministry service trips) in the Punta Gorda southern area. Belize residents are the friendliest in the world! As side trips we took the teens to the National Park, the Mayan ruins, the reef and the Blue hole. The freshest fruits and food. Now that I’m retired, considering a part time retirement in Belize, especially since it is only a 2 hour flight from Miami, then the “puddle jumper” flight south. Belize offers anything you are looking for from beach resort life to quiet country living…you give reasonable precautions to those that might be concerned. Don’t do anything stupid, and you will have no problem in Belize. Have to laugh about “Island time”….you nailed it!

The spelunking and going on a tube through cave sounds incredible. You sold me on that. We loved the Mesoamerican reef too. Most places you have to go diving just to see a few species of fish. The Mesoamerican reef in Honduras had sea turtles, scorpion fish, and tons of corals. It had it all.

Rumfish is a nice essentially out door patio dinning restaurant and bar. Food and drink are very good. Next to other areas of interest. I visit Belize every year to fly fish and visit the cayes, and afterwards stop by Rumfish and a great Italian ice cream parlor. And it doesn't get any better than this!

As a travel agent, I hear the safety comments all of the time about places like Belize City and Mexico in general. Crime can happen anywhere (including the US obviously), but just like you wouldn’t go into a shady club or shady alley in the US, don’t do it elsewhere. Don’t get drunk or buy drugs etc. Just go do the touristy stuff and get home safely.

When we snorkeled the reef off Caye Kaulker my wife suffered badly with sunburn to the rear of her legs. So, don't forget that you'll be out there floating/frying for a long time. Pay special attention to your rear! Also, as part of our snorkeling trip, we visited San Pedro & I bought a bottle of rum. ALL on our boat appreciated a cap-full just to cleanse the seawater from our mouths/throat. Otherwise, don't forget to take a bottle of water with you.

@@leekyciabrown3769 So long ago now that I don't recall. But, just ask around the snorkling shop fronts & get a good deal. Don't settle for the first offer. If you want suggestions on other excursions, we enjoyed the Rio On Pools & Barton Creek Cave (amongst others). Finding yourself a good guide helps enormously. We found Hector 'The Protector' & he was wonderful. If you need further info., hit me up.

I was assaulted in hopkins belize. A man grabbed me and tried to act like it was an accident when i fought back. I was also harrassed by a man on a bike in san pedro. Women have to be more careful, for sure. Either way,it's still my favorite place on earth. There are bad people everywhere you go. Just gotta be aware of your surroundings.
