Is this Wolverhampton or New Delhi?

a grandmother of mine moved to the USA from Wolverhampton circa 1920 as a nanny then married my grandfather. I have never been there.

I grew up there 1977-89. In all fairness Dudley St and Queen Square look nicer than they used to back then, and also it's a lot cleaner with less litter. At the moment I'm living in Acton, London, and from Shepherd's Bush to Ealing looks far grimier. However I've ''walked'' around the other end of town by Victoria and Worcester Street on google street view, and those places are very shabby and there are lots of empty premises and buildings gone to rack and ruin. Also the destruction of Queen's Arcade and Central Arcade in the early 70s to make way for the Mander Centre was wrong, one of them was ''accidentally'' burned down in a fire and immediately demolished. I've seen the photos from the days after the fire and in fact the iron arcade structure, as well as the building at the entrance on Victoria Street, were intact and it would have been easy to rebuilt the row of shops in the interior. However the contract for building the Mander and Wulfrun centres was too lucrative for that to happen and I'm guessing people in the council got kickbacks for allowing it to happen. Also I remember that there was an old theatre at the top of Queen Squeen where the new Lloyds bank building stands, next to the old one, that too burned down in an unexplained fire. At least most of the good architecture left has been looked after. Thanks for the upload.

Wolverhampton could be so much better if the high street was improved. They should get rid of all the money laundering businesses and replace them with funky restaurants, cafes and bars. You have to travel to the outskirts of Wolverhampton to find a nice restaurant. Birmingham on the other hand has improved it’s image incredibly and we should follow suit.

Lived there 1977-89 and trust me it was a lot grubbier then, credit where credit's due. I live in West London now and it's actually a lot dirtier. What is a shame is the decline of Victoria Street and the streets around it, and of course all the empty / derelict premises.
