Wolverine and the X Men: MetaView: Animated Series Review

The 1990’s saw some major changes in children’s animation, with an increasing focus on serial based storytelling and adult themes. The two shows that pioneered these changes the most were Batman the Animated series and X-Men. Both premiering in 1992, the writing and creative directions taken with these shows impacted an entire generation. Influencing not only the future of the genre in television and film, but even the comics they were originally based on.
X-Men in particular had proven that serial based story telling could work with younger audiences. Leading the show’s writers to adapt the more popular story arcs from the comics, with only minor changes to make them suitable for a younger audience. With such a large cast of characters and an ever expanding continuity. The Producers had recaps included at the beginning of key episodes containing specific details so that anyone seeing it for the first time would not be confused as to what was going on. X-Men was the first children’s show to do it this way. Previously on X-Men. That guys voice was so cool.
The popularity of the X-Men eventually lead to a film adaptation that proved just as popular on the big screen. Those films would in a similar way to the cartoon, also go on to heavily impact the comics and the superhero film genre as whole.
Basically the X-Men are awesome
In 2000 The children of the Atom would return to television in X-Men Evolution, which took a very different approach to the characters and its setting but proved to be just as popular with old and newer viewers.
In 2009 The X-Men once again returned to television in Wolverine and the X-Men.

Disney bought some properties of Marvel and that’s what happened. Kathleen Kennedy strikes again. So much time was passing before they got approval for season 2 during the sale. The producers didn’t think it was fair to keep the staff waiting without being paid. Sad story. Great show.

MetaView This show is good, don’t get wrong, but Cyclops was continually used as the dick that gets in wolverines way. They used him to make Wolverine look better. Maybe they would’ve redeemed him in season 2, but I doubt it. A redeemed Cyclops is without question the leader of the X-Men and that would’ve taken Wolverine off the enormous pedestal they had him on during this show.

I like this review, too me it seems more like a retrospective more than a review though, like the video is more focussed on the historical context, actors and crew involved with the series instead of analysing the show itself, not to say this isn't a really well put together video (because it is) it's just not review I think I was looking for.

You aren't the first to point this out to me. A big issue I have is spoilers. I hate revealing endings, character reveals or twists. And a typical review can tend to do this. So I tend to as you have pointed out focus on various aspects. I may change the titles to retrospectives or something similar. Regardless I'm glad you enjoy the content. I always appreciate input like this.

I really think marvel should reboot their animated shared universe!I want to do a new Spiderman cartoon, X-Men cartoon, fantastic Four cartoon and A proper Avenger cartoon,But I need to be done and treated with respect and She’ll be childproof by Disney and the mouse house. Also I think it’s way past time that Moon Knight, The Sentry, Hercules, Squadron Supreme, Daredevil, Blade,She-Hulk and Beta Ray Bill Their own cartoon series. I also want to see other cancel shows come back like spectacular Spiderman, Danny phantom, Freakazoid(Dexter Douglas),Tiny Toons Adventure,Tron Uprisings,Reboot,Zevo-3 and Animaniacs and put them on adult swim or Netflix.

Also, I love that you mentioned Zevo-3. I was huge fan of that show and still am. For a show based off a shoe commercial, it was pretty good. My main problem with this show and ever other X men media after Claremont is that mutant hate is a minorty, not every institution on earth. In Claremont’s work the media and most politicians were left wing when it came to mutant issues while people concerned were a minority. If WATXM came back today, be a good idea to have mutant haters be people who were hurt by mutants (economically-physically) and supported a Trump-ish figure. The media would be using mutants as a way to figure signal how “tolerant” they are. Puts both sides in gray. What distinguishes X men from other super hero teams.

I liked the demeanor of Cyclops actually. Archangel and Nightcrawler were done well too. It was nice to see Forge, one of my favorites. I just wish he was a grizzled military vet instead of a kid. And Blum also was the voice of Jack in Madworld, a Wii game about a death competition, using art based off Frank Miller's Sin City.

I really liked this video! I saw the show much after its release and while it had a resemblance to the 2000 movies, the art was nice. I still hold the 90s series as THE definitive take on the X-Men (please do a video on that one!!!) but this iteration was nice. I like your review format! Keep up the great work

I recently rewatched this series and I was confused with the fact that Charles Xavier was born in the 1930’s on top of the fact that he’d been paralyzed from the waist down since like the 60’s...soo how in the world would he with 20 years added to his life being 90 if not a little over a 100 years of age was he running around escaping sentinels and fighting them. It's insane that after watching this show, Spectacular Spider Man and Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes that all turn out to be in the same universe! I've seen another video that confirms all of the properties that are canon in this continuity. Although, I've never seen the movies and from what I read in the Marvel Database wiki, Planet Hulk is also considered canon. I'd definitely like to see a timeline video to explain everything. Finally, can't wait to see your next videos!

Having the show for kids fucked up the series. It sheltered them from creating something more complicated and exciting and instead they remove swearing and the fighting scenes are a complete joke. Wolverine can only scratch machines and he can’t scratch people cause that will cause blood and blood is bad.

I did try to get more info on why the funding was pulled. It did seem to simply be the case of one of the companies simply not wanting to finance it anymore. Anything else would be speculation on my part. Young Justice's third season is definetly something I'm going to look at after it's finished it's second half. That was my first ever 'Series review' episode. And Samurai Jack is very much on the list
