I'll tell you what. Back when I used to buy and read Wolverine comics in the 90's it wasn't strange to fictional stravaganza, but it had a serious-i-could-identify-with-his-character flavour to it, much like a Punisher story, where the weird super power weird stuff out of nowhere wasn't the main dish, as opposed with what they have been doing for the last decade or so, ruining the character in several ways, like what they did with his own run, or the alternate Savage Wolverine. I'm really glad to see Wolverine being treated with more dignity.

To be honest, I kind of hated these books. 1. It's pretty much just "a Wolverine story." You know the one. The one you've already read? The one that was utterly forgettable that means nothing? The one where nothing happens other than "he fights Sabretooth for random reasons?" Yeah, it's that one. You can skip it and miss nothing. 2. The initial mystery of why Yami did what she did? BIG MYSTERY he agonizes over? Never answered and tossed by the wayside, forgotten. Guess it wasn't important after all. 3. Bloody stupid plotholes... He clearly has adamantium claws, yet soo many other things make no sense. Sharks bite his legs off. A train's wheels shear his arms off (without causing the adamantium bones to force the train to jump the tracks catastrophically). He blows half his own head (and skull) off with a plain old shotgun. The villain has so much adamantium (supposedly so rare they could only afford to coat just Wolverine's skeleton just barely) he CAN BUILD A CAGE TO HOLD SEVERAL MEN with it. The villain gives himself adamantium claws (and nothing else). The villain has no healing factor whatsoever, yet is still able to give himself adamantium claws and not die somehow (we're told Wolvie only survived the adamantium process because of his healing factor, after all). Did the guy writing this know anything about Wolverine at all? 4. Somehow, the X-men, Avengers, every other team he's a member of ("I'm a loner, bub!") and his best friends are utterly unaware or uncaring about ALL of this despite Logan's face being plastered all over worldwide news as an international terrorist. (It's actually kind of funny to think of Beast and Iceman sitting down on the couch eating corn flakes in their boxers and seeing Wolverine's face plastered all over TV as a terrorist and just going, "Eh" and shrugging. Haha.) 5. The villain decides he's going to enter the cage and fight Wolverine in hand-to-hand combat despite the villain... Being a schlubby, unpowered, middle-to-elderly aged man who only has claws to help him. Really? That's your big plan?! The funny part is Wolverine ends the fight like in 2 panels and is just like, "Well... Yup. That was stupid." Overall the book's story turned out really, really dumb with a lot of unbelievable and problematic leaps of logic. If you ever wanted to see a Wolverine story just like a dozen other throwaway Wolverine stories, but with the occasional "fuck" or poorly drawn tiddy, this book is for you. Oh yeah, and almost all the covers are freaking terrible to this series. I wouldn't even call 2/3rds of them covers because they're not. Some are okay, but the others are just, "Slap the title on it lazily. Done."
