I was in middle school at the time Weapon X was published. The coolest part was the way they released the story in Marvel Comics Presents. MCP was an anthology series known for demoing random new characters and talent.

I remember reading that comic when I was about your age this would have been in the early to mid 90s when the cartoon came on Saturday mornings I recorded them on VHS so I could rewatch them. Good times to be a kid in school with plenty of free time to read comics. The early Wolverine comics, like issue 1 (published in the late 80s) where he's in Mandripoor and he wears all black and slaughters pirates is great. Its more of the seedy bars and noir style too. They have gradually dismantled Wolverine since the late 90s in my opinion. I haven't read a whole lot of comics in the last 20 years. It's cool to see someone like you interested older better written comics. Keep up the good work.

Oddly, I think Wolverine's origin and Gambit were influenced by a crazy 80s Japanese girl genre named Sukeban. Not sure how they knew about these TV series. It must have been Claremont or maybe Lee. So X-23 makes sense I guess.

The Singer movies butchered Wolverine and his origin, several times. The original stories are so good they really didn't have to do anything except commit them to film, and all they had to do visually is try to emulate the amazing, visceral artwork and they could have knocked it out of the park, but hey ...the normies liked them and everyone made a ton of money, so it must have been good... right?

I hated the bone claws when they first introduced them because of their retconning in. One of my friends at the time the bone claws were introduced had the idea that it would've been cooler if Wolverine's healing factor generated the bone claws after the fight with Magneto because his body had become accustomed to having the adamantium ones. That became my headcanon for them. I liked parts of the bone claw era, having Wolverine have to adapt to his new situation of being less durable but also having the better healing factor when it kicked back in. We won't talk about pig-nosed feral Wolverine. I will always utterly reject the Origins history and the whole "Jimmy" bull💩. With his false implanted memories, he was the perfect character for introducing new things. If the readers liked them, they were real memories/ events and if they didn't, they were fasle.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion about Logan's claws, because thanks to numerous retcons, variants and timelines that Marvel put out about Wolverine origin story, I get really confused on the real origins of his claws. And yes, that old Wolverine who's a Christian Canadian straight man named Logan will always be my Wolverine....not the later alphabet stuff and especially not James Howlett!! For years Marvel has ruined Wolverine but the worst in my opinion was during the "Krakoan Age" arc. In that arc they made Wolverine to agree to the mutant genetic supremacy idea put forth by the Krakoan Council, something that the old Wolverine would spit on it in disgust. And on the same story arc, I think in the Dawn of X vol.1, Marvel made Wolverine to have a POLYAMOROUS relationship with both Jean Grey and Cyclops....WTF WAS THAT??? There's even a map of the room arrangement in the housing complex showing that Jean Grey have access to both Wolverine and Cyclops room!!! I've never would imagine that they go this far to put their weird rule34 shipping in a comic book....poor Wolverine. I have read/watched very few Marvel comic books or movies from the last 15 years but I'm guessing they've stopped acknowledging Wolverine's religion which is a damn shame because it's nice bit to his character regardless of whether or not you believe in God.
