WOLVES HUNTING BISON - a pack of wolves out hunting bison calves in Yellowstone National Park

It was a cold and rainy day when I spotted a pack of wolves preparing to go on a hunt. This video shows them getting ready and then testing a couple herd of bison. I recorded as long as I could until the rain and thunder was just too much to stay out in.

I will do what I can - I just try to show people how great our wildlife actually is and should be protected. This is not popular but I think YNP should be enlarged in size. The area is worth protecting.

Great video! Most people side with the prey species.. however.. the views are greater when the predators are involved! I'd say keep focusing on wolves and bears.. the circle of life is as real as it gets! Thanks for sharing 😊

@@Yellowstonewolves you're welcome! I believe in conservation.. they prey are valuable for ALL the predators! A lot of folks don't really think about all the money that pours in from hunters! The money generated is directly used to purchase land and manage it for game species. In turn all wildlife benefits as well as photographers hikers camper bird watchers ECT ❤️ The balance would be way out of wack without the predators! I also believe that if game species didn't drawl the revenue that they do.. land would be lost for development.. sadly !
@Yellowstonewolves

Completely agree with you. I guess I look at responsible hunting where a balance is needed. I am not a hunter but when I go outside and see 10 deer in the front yard I think we need a hunter or a couple of wolves. I do wonder if conservation and the guides and photographer revenue now exceeds hunting revenues. I had heard that Yellowstone fees actually even help other parks which is great too.

@@Yellowstonewolves oh the money pours in from a lot of different things. Even the sales of outdoor equipment hunting hiking camping ect.. a percentage goes directly into habitat management. Which benefits all wildlife! I live in Pennsylvania.. the revenue from hunting license alone has purchased over 1 million acers of land known as game lands. Which are open to the public! Hiking trails wildlife viewing opportunities ect.. plus the land is managed for all wildlife. I believe Pennsylvania ranks third in the United States with the amount of land set aside for wildlife.

60% or more of calves survive to die of old age. Heard that from a guide, once.
@Yellowstonewolves
@Yellowstonewolves Жыл бұрын
I do wonder if that number is in fact higher. If you look at the numbers that they have to cull every year if would seem that the number is high. Maybe 60% is the right number too given the lifespan of 10-20 years.

1. Bear cubs. 2. Elk bugling. 3. Bison calves. 4. Eagles and hawks? Won’t watch wolves tearing anything apart. I know it’s nature and necessary but I don’t have to see it. Best Yellowstone trip ever was the spring just the right amount of rain yielded entire hillsides smothered in a riotous array of yellow and pink and white and orange wildflowers. And tell us about how the recovery from the water damage is coming. Blessings.
@Yellowstonewolves
@Yellowstonewolves Жыл бұрын
Wow - so many great tips and and feedback. You are right I should do a video about the damage and recovery, that would be good. I have some great footage of bear cubs to post still. I also have a some neat footage of bison that for some reason created a two mile long stretch and for reason had a meeting to go to somewhere on a hillside. I will keep my eye out for eagle and hawks. On the wolf question, I don't many people really want to see too much tearing things apart. Thank you again.

What are your locations in Yellowstone to set up??
@Yellowstonewolves
@Yellowstonewolves Жыл бұрын
Great question and it really is all over. There really isn't a location but rather getting to know a lot of vantage points that could be options. Over the years I have had to learn what to look for and looking in the right habitat. The other thing that is helpful is to watch the other animals and knowing what they do. Elk are a great give-away to what might be happening that could be out of sight for you. The other thing is the terrain - which spots can I see a hillside from and then watching animals as they move. I met a guy one time in yellowstone who was amazing and an knew the draws and valleys very well. We were together and he said to me - set up and watch right there - they always chase elk in to that area and corner them, many times they get a kill there. He was right, we were alone and we just needed patience.
