I am hypervigilant when I'm outside. But my dog truly comes through for me whenever someone comes to close towards me. I hope this serves as a reminder to stay off your phones in public if you don't need to be on it. This is one rule I truly practice. Sending strength to the lady who was attacked. Agree💯I never run outside unless my husband runs with me. Is it sad that this is our world now, yes it is, but if you value your life more than running you must make good decisions. And why do these women run alone in the pitch black? Run in your home on a treadmill, run at the gym; but don’t run in the dark alone because evil will catch up with you. I lived in New York City up until a few months ago and the thought of running through that park in the darkness sends chills up my spine. Hope this runner will get better soon and get over this horrific attack

I am a walker but I make my route right past a preschool, elementary school, middle school and two high schools. I do it just about the time when the kids are going to school and the crossing guards are out. I feel safest this way. It is sad but between the mental ill, the pitbull owners with no control over their dogs, and the criminals it is how I feel safest. I don't walk on the days that there is no school.

Reading through the comments and I'm so sad for American women, I always say must be horrifying to live thinking about precautions 24/7 wherever you go. It's not even men's fault as some say. I'm in EU, I could go for a jog alone at 2am if I wanted to and there's 99% chance I will be just fine. Used to end my shifts at midnight, go for a train, and then home from the station, I was cautious but never afraid for myself. Having to jog in couples? Just because you're afraid to go on your own? No offense, but that's a shame for such a "free" country

Don't let this stop you ladies, the marathon is this weekend. It is not more dangerous to run there is just more of us running right now because everyone is training for the marathon. To be a woman means there is a high chance you will get assaulted. The title of stories like this is never that a man attacked a woman it's that a woman was attacked. Why is that? It is sad we have to be scared but I feel like that is not enough. Why are we okay having to protect ourselves. There needs to be less acceptance that this has to be every woman's experience. It is not right. This is unacceptable, why do we accept that someone will attack women, we have to do something to stop men from attacking. Its a hard conversation because I don't know what I would say but I just hate that in a story like this it always includes ways that women have to protect themselves, live in fear and always be on high alert, instead of looking at the men. The police should be stopping men from committing crimes. Stop men from raping women. I am just mad at this guy and this story. They show this criminal who was once charged before so it all makes sense for the story to flow. But my big question is why was he out or how was he able to commit another crime. Being charged once let alone multiple times, and those were when the women pressed charges, I feel like a woman can understand not wanting to report it but it still was not a good experience. This man should not have even been able to commit this crime. WE should do better. This is allowed to happen because the police do such a shit job with the whole process. A rape is a terrible crime. It is emotional, it is personal. Having to relive it and then most likely to not get justice at the end of the day because something like insufficient evidence, or hearsay. It's a hard crime to nail, but I don't believe the experience of women should be how it is. I don't want to fear for my life. Rape I think is every women's biggest fear, I don't know if it is, I've never talked to any of my friends about it but I cant imagine a woman being completely fearless.

No such thing as eliminating ALL CRIME, but they at least don't coddle criminals or push revolving door policies. They're also encouraging people to arm and defend themselves, making life harder for criminals. I doesn't take a genius to figure out who would make society safer to live in.
