I am Chinese, a man of course, to be fair, in Chinese, 理解 means "understand", the sentence "我理解他的行为", literally means "I understand his action/move", but it should be translated as "I know the motivation behind his action(cheating)", you can see he was analysising and explaining his opinions and telling the actress what to do next. In general, I think he is reasonable, calm and helpful as a third party (a listener and advisor), I don't think he was defending the scum or agrees with cheating. The English translations are not 100% accurately sometimes.
