I had heard that doctors only take maybe one class on nutrition and I couldn't believe it because that is the most important thing! Anyway, on Utube, a commenter mentioned that he was doctor, so I asked him how many courses or classes do doctors take in medical school? He said, "It's one course, and not extensive because it is a dull science with not much to add to medical care." I think that is shocking, but this is one of the reasons our health care is such a mess.

Before i started the Paleo diet 2.6 years ago my D levels were low, under 20 based on VA lab tests. I started taking 5000 iu daily and by my next test 6 months later was in perfect range of 73. Same issue came up when i was testing my B9, it was low snd so i started supplmenting with folic acid and my levels went high max above the range. So i changed to A more absorbable form methylfolate, and again my levels dropped right into range. For some reason people going on low glycemic diets are having vit and mineral issues. Mily biggest issue were electrolytes because of low Mg i ended in the ER with extreme anxiety and panic attacks from heart palpitations. Lastly once i started adding a pinch of potassium and a pinch of salt to my am coffee my blood pressure is stellar average 120/70, pulse 58. I was getting my labs done for the last 2.5 years every 6 months now that everything seems normal i have went back to annually. With my first dose, my blood pressure dropped, I became extremely sleepy and of course my legs relaxed. It is no longer that extreme now that my body has adjusted to it but it still works for RLS and my blood pressure meds work better when taking it too. Most people get their Vitamin D from the Sun but if you live somewhere where there is little Sun your body cannot make it naturally. 6 months of the year you can get no vitamin D even if the Sun is shining in the Northern hemisphere as the Sun is too low in the sky. Then you can end up getting much cloud or rain so you still won't make it. It is the most important vitamin for our immune system. Maybe the problem comes from the synthetic version of the vitamin. Bottles of ascorbic acid do not do the job of two lemons on a daily basis. I know this because ascorbic acid did not cure scurvy (bleeding gums) but 2 lemons daily did, plus the fact that real lemons are a preventative of kidney stone formation.

Funny with the B12 they didn't explain the tiny amount of cyanide in cyanocobalamin is "bond". Just like table salt of Sodium and chlorine (bond). Taken separately could be deadly. Pure sodium alone would cause burns and possibly explode. This is the case for many elements. In pure form very dangerous but when bond to orther elements, no big deal.

What form of a vitamin you take matters. The wrong form in higher amounts is dangerous while the right form can be therapeutic. Food based vitamin c like camu is better than ascorbic acid if your taking it regularly. Also, tocotrienols are better than tocopherols. D3 is better than D2. Retinol is better than beta-caroteine. Methylated version of B12 is better than cyanocobalamin. Methylated folate is superior to folic acid. Ubiquinol (coq10) is better than ubiquinone. *I'm still trying to figure out the best form of liposonal vit. C.* We want the active forms that our bodies can use along with the cofactors like magnesium, k2, b6 and zinc taken with vitamin D. They work together.

But I had RNY (gastric bypass) over 23 years ago, so I am worried about absorption. I was told I would have to take sublingual or injected B-12 for the rest of my life, but that was when the diet advice was basically just "eat less" and the RNY forced that to happen, at least for 12-18 months. Could an RNY patient possibly get enough B-12 just from meat, or is the supplement still a good idea?

Here’s a quote about B12 which might help you decide . “People of any age who undergo gastric surgery for weight loss (gastric bypass), or have partial or complete stomach resections for other reasons, are also candidates for B12 deficiency. This is because they lose the cells that produce hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor. Intestinal surgery involving partial or complete removal of the ileum will also cause B12 deficiency, because receptors needed for the absorption of B12 are located in this area." . So if your in that camp and you’ve lost those cells that produce the stomache acid and the intrinsic factor then yes it might be an issue . I have monthly injections of hydroxycobalamin because I have pernicious anaemia and can’t absorb b12 from food. Over the past 30yrs I’ve had doctors who suggest moving to 3 monthly, so I did to appease them and watched myself deteriorate. On monthly injections my blood levels rise into the 1000’s , on 3 monthly the drop to 300 . The “healthy range “ in my country varies depending on the lab but usually 150-740.. so they stop my 3 monthly injections I feel crap , they wait till I have a meltdown caused by B12 deficiency and monthly starts again . Mental confusion , numb hands and feet , chronic fatigue no matter how much sleep etc etc etc . The used to call B12 deficiency megobolastic madness and people we’re institutionalised, good psychiatrists today always check B12 , niacin and other B vitamin levels as all B vitamins work toget bloodstream, vitamin B12 must follow a complex pathway, and a roadblock in any part of that pathway can cause your B12 levels to plummet. Here’s a highly simplified explanation of this pathway: 1. The vitamin B12 in your food is bound to animal proteins, and first must be freed. To split the B12 and the protein apart, your body uses an enzyme called pepsin, which can be produced in sufficient amounts only if there is enough hydrochloric acid available in your stomach. 2. Your stomach also produces intrinsic factor (IF), a protein that makes its way into your intestine to be available for a later step in the B12 pathway. 3. Next, other proteins called R-binders ferry the B12 into your small intestine. 4. In the intestine, intrinsic factor latches onto the B12 (with the help of enzymes called pancreatic proteases) and carries it to the last section of the small intestine, the ileum. The cells that line the ileum contain receptors that grab onto the B12-IF complex, pulling it into the bloodstream.” Plus you need to remember that the reference ranges they use for blood tests is set to the bare minimum you need to have before deficiency is confirmed , and for many with B12 def the Neurological symptoms will often present before the physical symptoms. There is a great paper from Ralph Green “vitamin B12 deficiency from thru perspective of a practicing haematologist m 2017 ASH publications america. Society of Hematology . He puts people with b12 deficiency due gastric bypass surgery into the severe deficiency category along with pernicious anaemia due to it being irreversible .I’m curious - do you supplement HCL or digestive enzymes ?
@BigSlimyBlob
@BigSlimyBlob 7 ай бұрын
Well... from what little I know about B12 digestion, it does require to be processed with the help of certain cells in the stomach to be absorbed later. You would not absorb much of the B12 that's in your food. It's possible that B12 supplementation comes in a form that does not require this process, and thus can be absorbed fully? You could ask around, but I wouldn't take any risks. B12 is vital.

Excess vitamin C is not innocuous. It converts to oxalates in the body (eg maybe worsens kidney stones), increases iron absorption and can cause iron overload, can subsequently damage various organs. Then you have the more immediate symptoms such as loose bowels and abdominal cramps. Most forms of vitamin C are also acidic (except buffered) and some may have added sugar. Sucking on a vitamin C lozenge is possibly not such a good idea.

You turn excess vitamin C into oxalate. You can use more while sick, or if you have a large area of damaged skin like sunburn or road rash/rug burn the excess oxalate will chelate calcium, potassium, salt, magnesium heavy metals(this may just be the oxalate that the human body makes idk) then they mention ions but they basically the same electrolytes.

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.

You're wrong on not supporting vit-D+vit-K+magnesium. I've experienced problems before I began vit-K2 supplementation, and the problem was not calcification of arteries, but mineral deposits on the backs of my teeth that I would have to go to the dental hygienist to periodically remove. Vitamin K2 supplementation entirely removed the problem, but I did not know that vitamin K2 had done it until I saw a video of Dr. Berg where he mentioned the effect of vit-K2 on mineral deposits. About a year later I stopped taking vit-K2 and the old problem returned. Vitamin D increases absorption of calcium by the intestines, and this can over-calcify various tissues, unless there is vit-K2 present to allow for the calcium to be delivered to where it is needed. EDIT: Indeed, you need B12 supplementation IF you are vegetarian or vegan. Then again, vegan marketing bs will assure you that you can get B12 from spirulina; but spirulina has not just B12 but also B12 analogues that block absorption of B12; so they should be taking B12 SUPPLEMENTS; and only take spirulina occasionally, specially blue spirulina, for its many other benefits; NOT for B12's sake.

Then the urine system can filter the excess that your liver cannot absorb and metabolise. I think there even is an adeno-type which is way less common. There could be a few people that cannot handle cyanocobalamin, but there isn't any grounds to forbid it. As most people can handle it. I got boosted on it once, and it gave me pimples. Something the hydroxocobalamin never do in me

Heart disease is the number one killer of people today and cancer is number two. Being over weight is the number one factor leading to an early death. People who are over weight have higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences. There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese. What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications. Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks. Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods

The question is, was this really an oxalate problem. Certain dietary changes can cause the body tissues to release a lot of oxalic acid all at once, which can overload the kidneys. Of course I’m primarily talking about a dietary change to carnivore diet. However, I am wondering if taking certain types of vitamin C could do this also.

3:19 3:22 3:23 SO WHAT ABOUT a big glass of water with lemon juice? Like HALF a lemon?
@SoundJudgment
@SoundJudgment 7 ай бұрын
Oh heck... squeeze the other half of the lemon in as well. And make sure the glass holds 16 Oz of water. Top it off with two tablespoons of Apple-Cider Vinegar for a bit more acidity and flavor. Have that mixture at least once a day, and say, "Goodbye!" to those common Kidney-Stones!

My surgeon prescribed 500 mg vitamin C after surgery on my hand. There are 100 tablets. When they're done, I'm done. My multivitamin also has 125 mg of vitamin C, and I'm pretty sure that's enough. At 78, I'm doing pretty well aside from my sore thumb, which I hope will be much better once I get the cast removed.

@@daveplem I agree. But I thought it was interesting that the medicines they sent me home with included vitamin C. I had to hand it to that doctor. At least he had some idea about nutrition when a lot of them have none.

Problem is that most food available to the general populace in the US has diminished nutritional value because has been processed or altered in order for the products to be shelf stable or last longer on the shelf so corporate profits are maximized. Grow your own veggies and meat if you can. Make what you can from scratch with ingredients you trust. Support your local farm or farmers market stands. However be prepared to pay a premium price for real old fashioned low processed or non processed food.

I used to take it when it was called Centrum Complete. It’s not anymore, but my doctor said that I had the most well nourished blood he had ever seen, back then. I wonder why they changed it?
