I got kicked by a horse on my uncle's ranch well over fifty years ago, and I'll never forget it. My brother and cousin were standing by it and petting it, and I came running up from behind it and surprised it. The kick grazed my chest, otherwise I doubt I'd be here today, but it was enough to knock the wind out of me and put a bruise on me that didn't completely fade for a couple of weeks. The experience didn't instill a fear of horses in me, but for a long time after that I never approached one from behind, even if I knew it knew I was there.

Yes I think she definitely should have put a halter and lead on the horse and done let him out to the pasture manually, however, I do like the fact that she didn't get abusive with the horse for aiming and kicking at her. Most people (whether you'd like to admit it or not) would get a whip and beat the horse for kicking at them. It just makes me happy knowing that people like her can handle a situation like that maturely, and just carry on with what their supposed to be doing.

Quite fairly deserved. If you cannot treat your horses properly. By leaving stalls unlocked, or un-trained horses in loose stalls. Like we see the grey at the end, over excited. If you can’t train a horse ground manners, then don’t bother getting one. Clearly, this person has not had any experience with animals. Especially horses, let it get loose, etc. no halter trained whatsoever. Teach your horse ground manners, and maybe you wouldn’t have experienced that. Especially for the fact, you let them run loose, that is horrible.

I just ran across this video and read some of the comments and have to make my own comment. My family has run a barn for a very long time with at times over 80 horses at a time. We let our horses out in a similar manner as this. The problem with this person is she did not have control of the situation when letting out the 2nd horse she was on the wrong side of the door when she opened it. By being on that side of the door that horse came out and turned away from her which got the attention of the white horse to come back in the barn then she was in he mix and totally out of control. This just shows how inexperienced she is with horses. Sad to see and glad she was ok.

I could tell by how hyperactive and overstimulated that horse was, that it was that specific horse. It's so unfortunate how it literally deliberately goes out of its way at the last second to kick her. Just as a passing by gesture of, "hey, fawk you". Just wow. Animals can really be jerks.

My family owns a boarding stable. We let our horses out the same way she does but they pretty much never come back in. One stray horse may come in to wait for a buddy but they are always on their best behavior. We hardly ever have problems. The horses we have at our barn now are very well behaved. Maybe the horse was young or hadn't been outside for a while. It may also just be bad manners. Frankly it was not the person's fault. The whip was not used to hurt them, just to guide them out.

Remi Rich a horse could’ve been abused, but they shouldn’t be treated any differently than another horse when they are helped to get their mindset off of the abuse. That whip was probably just a guide for them to get out of the barn. That horse was clearly being disrespectful to that woman, and I know if that happened to me, I’d be round penning that horse like no tomorrow. Horses are powerful and they need to respect humans

horses are huge, powerful, fast, mercurial, skittish, flighty beasts. In other words, they're inherently dangerous. I don't care how good you are, if you work with them long enough you WILL get hurt by one. It comes with the territory.
@miqolysa
@miqolysa 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that you have an high chance to get hurt by a horse. The thing is how it happend. There is nothing like a dangerous horse - normally it is a mistake from the human (trained the horse wrongly, act incorrect). But in this video it is nobodys fault. The Horse were not agressiv, just playful and had to much energie in it. If you look at the horses movement from the beginning of the clip until the kick you see that it was pretty nervous all the time. Sadly the woman stand in a bad place, but it is not her or the horses fault. The horse just showed normal behavior.

In a sense, yes. Evidently very, very unhappy about being unable to get out. Did you not see how many ways the horse was trying to escape, even trying at one point to climb over the loose-box gate (not enough space for a running jump, or it would have done). I don't know that horse's history, but I would say that, yes, it was suffering from one of the many known "stable vices" - effectively mental illness, some of which can be fatal to the horse, such as bashing its own head against the ceiling until it fractures its skull - which are CAUSED by confinement of an essentially wild and free-roaming animal for long periods against its will. The stable-hand was lucky to escape with as little damage as that. The horse evidently wanted strongly to escape, and regarded her as the reason for its confinement. Some horses are just not suited to stable life, and that should be respected. Why did the stable-hand not notice the horse's hugely obvious distress...?! Oh, and I speak from years of horse ownership and intensive stableyard work, so please, nobody start with the "you don't know what you're talking about" comments, thanks. Horses are powerful animals and can kill you IF MISHANDLED. If they really ARE "wrong 'uns", as we say, meaning individuals which simply cannot be fully domesticated, well: they have to be humanely put down at a far earlier age than this evidently fully adult and mature animal - for THEIR sake, since they will only be abused if any attempt is made to sell them into the riding industry.

Yeah, the horses needed to be calmly led out. The horse that kicked her was pacing back and forth in his stall impatiently as she moved around beforehand, and she let them run a bit too wild after letting them out. One way horses play is by bucking and kicking up their heels. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but she should have known better, and had the horses calm and quiet as she LED them out. She needs to be the herd leader and act like it if she's going to get the respect she needs as the smaller, much frailer person.

Some horse attitudes WON'T change. I finally gave up on the mare after 9 years of fighting and sent her on down the road. This horse needs to go if he has proper ground training/respect training and still acts like this. I've seen a man die from being kicked in the chest. there ARE safe horses out there needing homes.

The paint has a bit of a dominance problem. From the start of this video the paint was pushing against his stall, acting out and anticipating getting out of that stall to be with the bay across from him. When the woman pushed the paint out of the barn he immediately tried to return to the bay, but was run out again and then he came right back in with his ears back, willing to run over the woman, when the bay was turned out. When the bay took off to leave the barn, he headed away from the woman and his ears were relaxed but the paint closed the gap on her and laid back his ears just as he took a shot at her. It has been over 40 years since I worked as a trainer but I knew a gorgeous and muscular gelding that acted out like that and while he was fine around his owner you really needed to be careful that he didn't lunge to bite, kick or run over anyone else, even when he was under a saddle.

Absolutely. Opening the doors and letting them run in and out of the barn is craziness. No wonder the horse is pacing and becoming agitated in the stall if it's allowed to run out. She's an idiot and the truly criminal thing is that that horse, somewhere along the line, will be labelled as 'nasty' or 'dangerous' because she's allowed it to develop those behaviours.

this woman had NO control of this situation, and handled it horribly. Firstly, I would never let the white(pinto) horse out until he was calm. He was pacing and pawing like a maniac, and what does she do? let him out. He is already in a heightened state of mind. I would've waited for him to calm down, otherwise no turnout until he's still. I would also lead him out instead of being lazy and just opening the stall door and let them fly out. If I would do that method, I would tell them to wait even with the door open until I gave them the ok.

It did hurt. You can see her shifting her arm. The fact is, horses will be horses and you can't beat them for it. Mine, when I got through riding, took her out to the pasture and went to remove the halter, I had to prep first and get ready to jump back and aside. Cause she was gonna buck. Just a happy horse off her halter who's gonna run loose in the pasture. Soon as the halter came off, she bolted forward kicking and bucking before galloping off. Sometimes I felt her hoove graze my face. I've had many kick me, been trampled, bitten. But I've never beaten a horse. Props to the woman for not getting pissed and beating the horses.

First of all, a horse should never be allowed to run down a barn. It's unsafe for the horse and the handler. Secondly, the handler should have never put herself in that position to begin with, because she clearly shows hostility toward the horse. She never once attempts to calm the horse. She should have lef it out before it was that agitated, and closed the gate so it couldn't come back in the barn before letting any other horses out. And if she had just gotten there and the horse was already angry, she should have waited a moment andlet him calm down and then feed him some hay, and then take him out by hand. Better yet, call someone and make sure you have help. Whem a horse is weaving in his stall and pawing like that, it's almost guaranteed that the horse will act out. It is in no way a good time to be out on the floor with a loose animal. I'm not trying to be condescending at all, but this carelessness of trainers and handlers needs to end. It's not good for anyone. Allowing this kind of thing dooms both horse and handler.
@adoerfler
@adoerfler 10 жыл бұрын
She shows no hostility - that's in your mind. The horse has no manners, has been allowed to show disrespect to humans - it is the trainer's fault. Being agitated for any reason other than abuse is no excuse for bad behavior.

@adoerfler
@adoerfler 10 жыл бұрын
elio08 Yes, the horse should have been trained in manners long before this incident, but to NOT correct it after it kicked is silly. Of course you correct every time the animal shows disrespect. It is how you correct that is important.
@prairiewanderer5040
@prairiewanderer5040 10 жыл бұрын
elio08 Wrong. Correcting after the kick lets the horse know that the kick is completely unacceptable. There's a big difference between being disrepectful in the stall and actually striking out. Although both behaviors have the same root cause the actual physical attack cannot go uncorrected.

How was she agitating the horse? I've had many of horses that are in a stall that aren't getting hay (due to diets, already having been fed ect.) Yeah they get a little impatient, but that doesn't mean they can kick out at you. This might have been a new horse to the stable you never know the circumstances. Also note that the women had put hay outside, possibly for the both of the "loose" horses. She was doing her job, things got a little nasty by mistake. People are taking this as though it was done to be cruel towards the animal. I've been in the barn plenty of times to know that I am going to do my job, and if the horse is under my care things are going to be done my way. Teach a horse that it gets what it wants every time it starts pacing and pawing at the floor & that is how you find a horse that thinks they're higher on the food chain than you.

No horse ever kicks because it wants to. For dominance, horses don't WANT to fight, it's just something they need to do. "A horse shows how it feels". And to put pressure on a horse, all you have to do is stand near them. Even touching them is pressure.

I am glad you have an opinion. We could split hairs on the topic. Does emotion drive behavior or behavior drive emotion? Does emotion exist? Why does any being do any behavior? Anxiety can be a motivator to all behaviors. i have no idea how much work this horse has had or the relationship this lady has had with the horse. Most domestic horses who are "pets" and handled regularly should not act this way as in the vid, So in this little clippit of a vid , I am merely expressing my opinion on what I see at that moment. You may have a point about horses in general but that is also an opinion. Some horses just never kick at all. Some do it daily. Behaviors are generally strengthened by whatever the consequence was from its previous experience. So kickers may learn to kick more if the previous event was successful to their mind. Thank you for your opinion.

This lady put two hay packages outside the barn first. She wanted two horses to eat these hay outside the barn. Am I right? The first horse freed and went outside, but tried to come back in because the horse thought there are more hays inside the barn with a plenty of friends (horses) inside. The lady led the horse to go out again. Then, she let the second horse to go out but this one came to the wrong direction which, as a result, invited the first horse to join. The first horse came back in again. (Horse are herd animal. Quite natural attitude.) I see nothing wrong with the lady here except that she was careless with the distance that she should have kept between her and any horse. There is no evidence of mistreat except for some reckless attitude. I do not use a halter and lead rope with my horses. Going out from the barn or coming back to the barn is their routine. I just call them "House" and they come back to the barn house. I am just careful not going to close to the horse because they play and kick at any time.
