They usually have you follow them to an inspection area from my experience. That was probably a speeding issue.

@@bryanknox5014 Not always but my last two I had to follow them while they held my license. One was to the MDOT yard on 52 near Adrian about 8 miles away. Another had me follow him south on 275 get off at Michigan go back north on 275 to the rest area.

Maybe it's time the commercial enforcement officers were stopped from pulling these trucks over on the sides of highways to conduct inspections. There are safer spots to do this.

@@richardrice8076 That is the purpose of the commercial enforcement vehicles. The overwhelming majority of the time they have somebody pulled over it's for a roadside inspection. It's not something that you would realize if you're not involved in the industry. I give you another example.... Have you ever seen a federal revenue truck Pulling a semi over on the side of the road or parked beside a semi at a rest area or in a truck stop? The average person would have no idea what's going on. What is happening is the enforcement officer has a 3 foot long clear plastic straw. He inserts the straw into the fuel tank and then puts his finger over the top of the straw and pulls it out. He's looking for the color of the diesel fuel. If the diesel is clear the driver is fine. If the diesel is green or red the driver is fined. But if you're not in the industry you probably wouldn't realize what's happening. Could the truck driver have been speeding or driving bad.... yes possibly. But the overwhelming majority of the time when a commercial enforcement vehicle has a truck pulled over on the side of the highway they are doing a random inspection because that is what they are out there to do. That suspicion is stronger because that is just South of the international border and that is a Canadian truck. Canadian trucks have speed limiters on them so they tend to do the speed limit. And they are a target because it is a foreign driver in a foreign truck and the border states target those trucks more than others for the revenue. Again if you're not in the industry it's probably something that you would be aware of and there's no reason for you to be aware of it but that is most likely what is going on. Just an educated guess.

There are better and safer places to do a random inspection, truck stop, rest area, weigh station, side streets. Our compressed gas cyl. trucks barely got of the yard and there was a DOT super trooper pulling them over. Everybody sez random inspection, I say traffic stop. I guess we'll leave it at that. Also how do you know it's a Canadian truck and 2 the story said he was Northbound so he was heading to Canada not coming out of Canada.

The reason I think it's a Canadian truck is because it's Canadian Trucking company. I can't comment on what they do with the trucks at your company Because I have no experience with it. I can comment on what they do with the trucks out on the interstates because I have 35 years of experience with it. That's where the educated guess part comes from. I am Aware that he's going North on 75 and is about to cross the bridge at exit 47. That 47 miles stretch from Ohio to the bridge is famous for this sort of thing happening. Another place you will see this happening all the time is interstate 69. That last 40 miles before the Port Huron crossing is A hotspot for Michigan commercial enforcement officers pulling over Canadian trucks. Can I go now? I have better things to do than educate you.

Unlike the general public, commercial vehicles and their drivers can be pulled over at any time for any reason and that usually means a random inspection. So no, there should be no random inspections done at rush hour in such a congested place. Obviously if the truck is being driven recklessly or there is some other issue well that's a different story but I believe this to be a random inspection which could have been done at a better time and place.

that isnt dangerous, the shoulder looks plenty wide enough to accommodate a truck pullover. cops will wait to pull over a truck until there is a safe area to do so then light them up. they wont do that if the shoulder is too narrow or is just plain unsafe. seen that plenty of times and that includes me once (for a random roadside inspection not for a violation).
