She may have thought she was demonstrating how to make her favorite dish, but instead she showed what not to do in the event of a kitchen fire. Kelly Caron, 26, livestreamed making a steak on Twitch. Her cooking caused so much smoke, she set off the fire alarm in her apartment building. She ran out of her apartment screaming for help when there were flames in the kitchen. Kelly says she was in “panic mode.”

In the Navy, I was at a firefighting school where they showed what happens when you handle a grease fire wrong. They had a big deep-fat fryer that was on fire. Then the instructor, in full gear while we were all like 40 feet back, threw a 3-gallon bucket of water on the fire. The fireball went up like 20 feet and there was actually a mushroom cloud from it, dead serious it was like a bomb going off. That made a big impression on me at age 18, I joined the Navy right out of high school. We also learned that if you have a fire in the engine compartment of your car and a fire extinguisher, don't mess with unlatching the hood and all that, all you're going to accomplish is to burn your hands. Spray the extinguisher through the grill, works like a charm.

@@Mercenary-1914 actually a wet kitchen towel is great for putting out most fires other than grease fires, a wood or silicon spatula that you left on a burner that caught fire would be better extinguished with a damp kitchen towel than flour. Mechanical engineering does not equate to being trained to fight and respond to indoor fires. I am a mechanical engineer... and also have 20+ years of experience shipboard fire fighting and shipboard damage control (navy). Panic response is the WORST, save yourself, save a neighbor, and at minimum go attend a portable fire extinguisher course - sometimes the local fire dept will put this on at no cost and workplaces usually do this if the local OSHA requires it.

I was at home sleeping (working nights) when this happened to my roommates when she was trying out her new wok. Her screaming must have woke me up because I got up to get a glass of water and passed her in the hallway as she ran to get the landlord and a fire extinguisher. I walked, half asleep, into the kitchen with most of the stove on fire. I calmly got a box of baking soda out of the fridge and shook it all over the fire and the stove putting it out. Then I turned off the stove top, poured a glass of water, and passed our landlord, fire extinguisher in hand in the hallway as I went back to bed mumbling something about "I took care of it". I woke up to a decently packed lunch that evening, before I left for work. Luckily there was little to no damage to the stove. Our landlord later explained to her that I was a former volunteer firefighter and it would probably be quicker to get me next time, if it happens again.🤷‍♂️

Well you can still be bad at something but perfect the thing you love to do the most. For example I can’t draw perfectly but I can 3D model and program n Python and C++

I remember this. My brother was watching her live. There were already so much smoke but she was still giggling and thought it was funny that it set off the fire alarm.

This is why you make a point of having a lid ready every time you cook with something that can catch fire. Not because you will ever need it, statistically, but to remind you of how to correctly put out an oil fire so it is fresh in your mind if it happens.

Bruh eating the food my ex made was the worst, I would have to force dinner down while she watched me with this sinister smile on her face, when we were fighting she would make stuff like a pot roast in some Walgreens crock pot and I would have to come home after working in the Texas sun for 10 hours to chew raw potatoes just to clap cheeks. I was embarrassed when she would take pictures for her snap stories, I would always think “Who told you to keep pursuing this”

This is what I was concerned to myself and for others. We have some knowledge on how to tackle dangerous situations. But if it does happen to us, we might go in panic mode where all of that knowledge just went away.
