That's not the problem here; she went to invest via a Ytuber (fake female financial adviser) that faked that she had worked for a major investment broker. If the victim in this case had went to a legitimate brokerage website online she would not have had this issue. You don't need to meet people in person, just don't invest via people that have accounts on social media sites like YT, instagram etc. Go create a proper brokerage account online yourself (similar to how you do with online banking) with these investment firms on their websites and control the investment yourself.

You can buy Bitcoin (that's the only "crypto" that matters) and safely store it all on your own without the need of any fake or real financial advisor. Yes you can lose up to your initial investment. Usually these are the safest stocks though. In 2008 the s&p lost 50% of its value but it came back up over a number of years. You would probably have lost more in many other funds though. If you want a guaranteed return invest in your saving account funds or us treasuries but over time you won’t get a 10% return either.

Why would you invest with an advisor that you don't have a relationship with!!!! A relationship is someone you can visit get quality referral and references...
@microbios8586
@microbios8586 7 күн бұрын
Ok but a lot of "legitimate" advisors are absolute thieves too, so "having a relationship" means little. So many financial advisors sell horrendous products that only benefit them, not you, the investor. Clark Howard talks about it all the time. If they do not have a fiduciary duty, they are not looking for your best interests. You have to be careful even if you know the advisor personally.

This all comes down to GREED on the victim's part of these type of frauds. They invest some money - see that it returns something like 500% and then spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to try to get access to it. Greed is a powerful drug.

The way to eliminate these kinds of problems is to use major reputable U.S. financial institutions and don't send money to whoever over the internet for some kind of investment. You have to know who you are dealing with... And don't get involved with crypto.

She recovered 5k because it was sent via ACH who was it sent to? How was it recovered? We know she didn’t send it to fidelity, was it sent to person of business? They can track real owner of the receiving account Unless he also opened fake account with some bank, in this case, she can go after bank which allowed for this to happen in first place

She is not a victim. She believed someone who said they would earn 20% every month or quarter and did not question it. I'm guessing the $120k was her only investment and she put it all into crypto?? Again, she is not a victim. The only real option for someone with $100k is index investing, but that would not give you 20% a month. She was greedy and has only herself to blame.
