My math says 3500 calories per pound times 141 pounds = 493,500 calories. Divide that by 30 days and you get 16,450 extra calories per day beyond what her metabolism requires. Basal metabolic rate at that weight is 5000 calories per day, so she’s probably eating something like 21,450 calories per day. That’s 7 large cheese pizzas or 51 liters of soda. So, a lot.

Right? Most addicts won’t admit it. And yes, eating disorders is like addictions. The hard part tho, you can’t live without food, you can live without drugs. So you have to find a way to balance and man it’s hard. I now weigh too little to donate blood and platelets (I was their most regular donators). I haven’t taken off the shirt they gave me since they said I had to go home and gain a bit to come back. (In a nicer way than that tho). I’m on the opposite end, yet I have struggled with binge eating in the past and sometimes in the present and it’s not fun. There is no control. And the guilt is overwhelming. This is an addict, and I am one too. It’s the only addiction I haven’t beat (besides nicotine). And I’ve had maaaany you wouldn’t believe. I just wanna hug her and cry and go to counseling together. Most likely inpatient treatment, since both of our physical and mental health is in jeopardy. God I’m glad she’s honest. I should have done that a long time ago, but here I am, bones sticking out and in pain, knees bulging out of my legs, and fainting all of the time. So I’m not much better than she is. It hurts. It’s so painful but I try to act okay but man it hurts so badly. And I’m sure she’s in even more pain than me. This is the start to getting better, admitting your mistakes. And I for one, admit mine. I need like, an eating disorder anonymous group or something lol. Do they even have those?

No it’s not. It’s called being a greedy b*stard with no self control. We alll love to eat. But as grown adults you stop yourself. They’re just lazy, greedy people. If they had a “food addiction” as you say (which I don’t believe in at all) then why didnt she seek help yearsssss ago before it got to this stage?! If she knew she had a problem. But no, of course she didn’t do that, she’s too lazy to seek help, that would require making an effort. I feel bad for the people that are that way for genuine medical reasons, which is only a very small minority. The rest are just gluttonous slobs who need to take accountability for what they’ve done to themselves. They’re nothing but a burden to their poor family/kids and society. And all because of something they’ve chosen to do to themselves. And not ask for help earlier.

Yes! Food addiction is very real. Everyone wants to just call it poor self control but its so much more than that. When you know something you crave is bad for you and that you'll regret it later, but you do it anyway because the need to satisfy that craving supersedes all logic, that is addiction.

@Tarik Essarhir I'm pretty sure they get plenty of body shaming here too, and that life for these people is anything but comfortable. Actual mental health treatment, like the kind supported by scientific research, is the way forward for these people. Working on the underlying mental illness and addiction so that food is no longer their only source of happiness and their only way to cope with mental illness is better than trying to shame someone out of a disease. You can't shame mental illness away any more than you can shame away cancer or an injury.

Doctor now never coddled his patients which is very important as a Doctor Who deals with patients like this that are at risk of repeating past mistakes. The whole weight loss prior to surgery is a test from the doctors to make sure that you are able to continue losing weight even after the surgery happens. Because weight loss surgery doesn’t necessarily mean weight loss. An old friend of mine got gastric bypass, and she is no skinnier now than she was before the surgery because she thought it was just a miracle cure that was a one and done deal. Doctor now doesn’t put up with patients bull crap and excuses because if they’re going to make up excuses and not work then they’re wasting his time
