I wish that anime can right their female characters like their male characters and actually give them a personality and not have them sexualized or harassed for laughs It always offends me how the anime’s that treat women like objects and harass them are the ones that get really popular, like SAO and fire force, It scares me that male anime fans like these anime’s after showing women get violated for laughs ( fire force ) or getting sexually harassed and how it affects the MAN INSTEAD OF THE WOMEN (sao) And they say we’re “making a big deal out of nothing” or “ it’s fictional ( or it’s anime of course they have fan service)” Fiction affects peoples minds, and acting like it doesn’t is lying

Idk if it's apparent but i lost motivation for this video quite early on, i just didn't want to add to the pile of unfinished projects. Hopefully my next video will be very unusual compared to what i usually upload, although the person i'm doing it with is a lazy cunt so it might take even longer than this one

Riza Hawkeye in S tier... Damn right. As for the overpowered at the cost of character bit, that's the biggest annoyance I ever have with any series. If a character is powerful, fine, but if that's all they have to their name, or if they are supposedly a beast, but often fail at everything they are supposed to be good at (sakura being a sannin inheritor wielding medical ninjutsu, yet still virtually never useful in either role), then I have a major issue with it.

female representation in jojos is something i love to talk about. and i especially have a lot of thoughts about the holly situation. i think you had well intentions, but justifying how holly was written by using in-universe context doesn't make for a very good argument. the problem is that araki chose to write her that way. now this isn't a problem on its own, but as we know media doesn't exist in a vacuum. holly's characterization sticks out badly because she is one of the only female characters (that isn't a villain) in the entire part and she essentially acts as a plot device. we don't get to see how her illness affects her personally. her pain only exists as motivation for the male characters. the same goes for polnareff's dead sister. she was murder-r*ped only to serve as motivation for polnareff. this is actually a phenomenon known as "fridging", where female characters are put through trauma or their lived are put in peril simply to give the male characters motivation. this only becomes a problem when there's no other positive female representation or it becomes a trend (both of which are true in stardust crusaders). i don''t even wanna talk about anne, but let's not forget when she was almost molested by a FUCKING ORANGUTAN (great job araki lmao) for literally no reason but to display that the orangutan was an enemy stand user. araki could have chosen literally any other situation to show how evil that stand user was, but he chose that specific act. i think a lot of male writers just think "oh, what's the worst thing that could happen to this female character? sexual assault of course." which i don't judge any specific writers for, i think that stems from a larger societal trend where female sexuality is put on this pedestal where it's considered to be the most important thing about a woman that must be protected, and that if a woman loses her purity she loses everything. anyways sorry for all the rambling this is just a topic i love talking about. jojos has so much for fans to analyze and critique and that's part of why i love it because its flaws force me to think critically and think deeper about the media i consume, while its strengths make it an incredibley enjoyable series with such rich universes and lore.

Okay well I’m not gonna respond to any of the Polnareff shit because that’s a point I never actually made. But you’re saying Holly’s writing is bad as if it doesn’t make sense for Holly to be that way which is untrue. Joseph is shown to be a complete pushover as well as insanely rich, meaning he can spoil his children rich. It would be worse writing to have Holly be like every single Joestar despite having zero pain of suffering in her life. The same thing happens to Johnny in his backstory- in which he’s spoiled rich and turns soft yet that’s not bad writing because he has balls between his legs. Holly is a great character underrating her because she’s a woman is more sexist than anything else and no amount of “context” is gonna change that. It’s not Araki’s job to write all of his female characters as strong just to go against some weird fold, it’s his job to make a cohesive story

@@Ludee27 i'm not sure if i didn't make my point clear or you misunderstood what i said. i don't want or need holly to be a "strong" character. i LOVE holly as she is. i also agree that in the canon of the series it wouldn't make sense for her to be stand user. however, i believe that using in universe justifications for these things does not make a good argument because media doesn't exist in a vacuum and characters don't make choices, writers do. i then spoke about how there is nothing wrong with holly's character arc on it's own, but when every single female character who is on the protagonists side or has a close connection to them get put through traumatic situations (specifically sexual assault and/or complete loss of autonomy) SOLEY for the sake of the male protagonists' character development and motivations, holly's arc becomes a part of a pattern of using female characters as plot devises. I don't want holly's role to change, it doesn't need to. I also don't want anything about part 3 to change. It's been finished for almost 30 years now, and I don't even know what good would come from changing it (after all, we have fanfiction for that). Still, that doesn't mean that the part is immune from critical examiniation. Part 3 has lots of problems with female representation that goes so far beyond "strong female characters". Obviously you don't care to hear about them so i'm not going to delve into them at the moment. I do NOT think araki is a bad writer. i think he's an amazing storyteller and his worldbuidling is amazing. he's one of my favorite mangakas ever. and i don't think criticizing his work for the way he writes female characters is a bad thing. I firmly believe we should be able to criticize the things we love. It helps deepen our understanding of the works we love so much. I also want to make myself very clear that I had no ill will towards you with my original comment. I simply wanted to open up a discussion (i brought up polnareff's sister on my accord, not to make a point against you but to support my own) about a topic i was passionate about, no hard feelings or malicious intent involved. i think it's nice/good to hear from different perspectives when it comes to media analysis, bc depending on a person's worldview they can view a work in a completely different way that you never even thought of. it's very interesting. thank you for responding to my comment :)

I totally agree, thanks for bringing that up! I mean, it's not like I didn't realize that female characters in Jojo's were left out a bit but it's nice to hear the entire thought process. As an anime only fan, I am very excited for the next part and interested in its execution.

im glad you mentioned how mikasa isn't as great as everyone makes her out to be lol she doesn't have anything to properly distinguish her from the rest of the cast other than caring about eren and being strong, yet people will still bring her up as an example when they talk about well written female characters even though gabi, probably the most hated character in all of attack on titan, had more development and personality than her in a single season than mikasa had over the course of 4. gabi is the first case where i've heard of where a female character in anime actually having screentime and is given time to develop as a character and isn't passive or has some kind of subtle presence in the show. people don't hate her for the same reasons they hate female characters in other show like being crazily overpowered, having their character revolve around a male character or just being useless altogether. she actually made mistakes and has flaws and is allowed to develop and change unlike other female characters in anime who just have character development to "become more confident". not that becoming more self assured is a bad character arc but it's definitely overdone and is most of the time, the only character development they have. its also nice to hear you talk about how well written female characters in jojos bizarre adventure are :D the women in jojos are very underrated which is odd because i'd argue that characters like jolyne and hermes are a WAY better representation of women than the other female characters that people name as good represenation like erza and mikasa.
