I am an emigrant too,I am not, however,a person of colour but white. I still experienced racism though, just because NZ is not my country of birth. So yes,NZ is racist in many many ways. Good job girls,on talking about this .❤

Historically the indigenous Māori have been affected the worst by systemic racism in Aotearoa, NZ because they welcomed the colonial British into the country, the British then signed the Tiriti O Waitangi consented to by Māori then the British colonialist turned around, stole/confiscated most the land, killed Māori in the NZ Wars, oppressed the culture and reo (language) and created systems which kept Māori getting crumbs at the bottom of the heap in their own land. Now we see the poor results of colonization for Māori who have been left behind in housing, health, education, justice system etc which will take generations to overcome. Successive governments are now trying to tidy up the mess left behind, will take generations to overcome the damage caused

Yes the fracture and divide is real but Maori are also the most diverse population with a strong middle class resurgence.

Yes and yet this colonials heritage thinks they are the true kiwis and dislikes migrants. They forgot their ancestors too were migrants or worse, because they were colonists.

Be happy to live in a peaceful and very racially diverse nation. But dont expect some utopia, and complain about such trivia, as if your life is tough because of it. You're privileged just to be alive at this time and to live in a modern country.

i have been to to New Zealand and i have met kiwi's oversea's, along with Aussie's. And generally you'll find that they fit in and have a good time with absolutley everyone regardless of who they are. No matter what ethnicity, colour, culturally background. Why don't people from different background's when they come to a country like New Zealand try to fit in.

That was interesting. I am white bilingual and have dual citizenship because of my parents. I speak my second language with a slight accent and experienced racism on several occasions when I lived for 15 years in my other country which is in Northern Europe. It would be interesting to hear these women's opinions on Tusiata Avia’s poem 250th anniversary of James Cook’s arrival in New Zealand.

Racialism and racism are two different things, you can acknowledge and joke about race without believing in a core difference, but trying to pretend like superficial things don't exist is superficial in attitude. They openly don't want to assimilate and join the country/culture they are say they are a part of.... and are surprised they aren't cohesive with the broader community of the country. The "can't see you in the dark joke" doesn't make any insinuation that your worth is lower because you are less visible in the dark. Don't see the "racism" there at all. Nor the "smart brownie" comment, brownies are sweet and delicious. I've been called that despite not being brown, just like I've been called cookie, sweetie pie, hot cakes, etc.... honestly with the youth, It comes across as if you want to be victimized. I've met people who lived through jim crow, and those who've live through the holocaust. You new migrants abuse the hospitality of the freest countries in the world. My ancestors built cities, universities, and birthed skyscrapers from virgin lands and tilled the soil to be the most productive in the world, new migrants typically hop on state assistance and send remittance out of the country they reap the spoils of, which sounds like 'colonial ideology' to me... media like this just continues to dilute the word and it means less and less. Call enough people it and they will just own it. Either way keep it up :D Teaching racial empathy through Critical Race Theory, (which is clearly their ideology) will never work because it isn't a man made structure, It's something you feel in the air. It's an innateness. How could diversity of the future be one superbleneded peoples? That wouldn't be retaining the Earths natural diversity at all. She says it herself she believes Samoa is her real country, but when she wants money the White dominated country is suddenly her homeland.. Maoris conquered the land in 1200's, Europeans conquered it in the 1700's. Now they want to reconquer it, so call it what it is, an invasion. Invasions, historically, are worth resisting.

@@Paris45627 the ole racist argument - other countries have problems means we are not racists or can't have our racism pointed out. Why don't you go ahead and just say more fully what you want to say - "You people of color here should g o back where you came from " at least be an honest above board racist instead of trying to hide it.

As much as I am all for standing against white power and white people that are mostly racist asf. I also do think that there are issues in many ethnic communities that desperately needs to be addressed, because if its not addressed I dont think they will get anywhere. I am vehemently against white people (the racist kind & I also view most of them with suspicion as to what their intentions are) but the issues in Pacific Islander communities and Maoris must be fixed otherwise honestly fixing white people and putting them in place will mean nothing honestly.
