I’m from London but I spent 2 years in NZ back in 2003 I was 23 I’m now 42 and seriously thinking of relocating as I fell in love with the country and the people. I have a lot of respect for the Māori culture and felt proper welcomed every where I visited! Big love to the kiwis🫡

Be careful. Methamphetamine is easier to buy than a pie and coke. Drugs come to you in Auckland. If someone is trying to get eye to eye contact with you and they are on a bicycle usually, I can guarantee they will discreetly whisper to you trying to offer u meth. Its everywhere in Auckland even in the affluent areas. True story

Mean video as always bro. Couple of things; 1.When you were walking down Federal street with the lights under the Sky Tower that was right next to my work! 2. You can get into the casino wearing whatever you want so long as it's not jandals. 3. Only scumbags hock and spit everywhere, your average Kiwi hates it aswell.

Darn it! I wish Id bumped into you! As a JAFA (just a fantastic Aucklander) born and raised, I'd describe Auckland as trying to grow up to be like the real big cities of the world. 40 years ago, K Road was the sleeze capital of the country. Not anymore. Today its fun, hip, happening - cool. Yeah we get knocked by the rest of the country unfairly IMHO but hey, thats what you get when youre the big boy right? We are diverse but that means we are also less ignorant of others. Glad you enjoyed the vibe - will look out for you next time youre here! BTW LOVE Welly!

Great vid man! True blue Aucklander here. We do get a lot of shit which is so misguided. Worlds most liveable city many times in a row, top 5 cities in the world to visit according to Lonely Planet, Condenast (i think), New York Times etc. I think what you said about it being an afront to the senses compared to the rest of NZ is part of the reason. But i also think its because a lot of NZers haven't travelled and don't realise how good it actually is. Has the population to sustain lots of events/ things to do, two glistening harbours with islands to visit, white sandy beaches, wild surf beaches, beaut native bush with hikes. All around an interesting, multicultural urban fabric, like K Road. Yeah theres traffic and problems like any large city in the world, but they're pretty mild comparably to other cities on the globe. Love to see it.

Alex N I'm a Kiwi who grew up in New Plymouth and I've been living in Brisbane, Queensland for many years now. I've never lived in Auckland, but have stayed there long enough to form an opinion, hence why I want to mention that it's MUCH better than here, for various reasons, including the beautiful habour, which is in walking distance! Of course, there are negative and positive aspects with most places; however, some have a lot more of the former than others and I'm aware that Brisbane is close to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. It's not like the beaches are nearby though and the heat and humidity in summer exacerbates the pollution, so the air is stifling. I want to add that I'm not able to move from here yet; otherwise, I would do so tomorrow, just in case people give me the usual advice I see when someone writes about not being happy with living situations etc. 😊

The space outside the Aotea Centre is Aotea Square - home of many a protest and kick off point of the famous Queen St Riots. Now that was Friday Night in Queen Street to remember! The big white building jutting out on the wharf @20:13 is the Hilton Hotel - designed to look like a ship's bow supposedly! (Wellingtonian here) The coughing and spitting I noticed last time I was in AKL as well, but from what I saw (the 15-20 times I saw it), it seems to be a practice specific to the Chinese immigrant community. Traditionally, kiwis are disgusted and sickened by what we call "hoiking" or "hoyking" (spitting mucus), so this must be a newer thing. I live in LA now and haven't even seen that much spitting in Chinatown - perhaps because spitting in public is illegal in the US - thank goodness!! I don't think you'd get away with it on a busy Wgtn footpath, you'd get a bunch of disgusted looks and people would yell at you. I know I can't help but yell at someone when I see them do it, its so disgusting.

Bought a car on the K road, drove from top to bottom of NZ in it, this area must have developed into more of a njghtlife area. I did go out predominantly in Newmarket, but there was a very good games arcade at the bus station. Lived in Remuera for my duration of 2 months in Auckland. I am going back nearly 30 years though. The whole of that waterfront area was being redeveloped in my time and there was no real connected metro either. So many changes, need to go back.

Queen St there was a outdoor market place, not use if it's there any more, that was pretty cool. I was there in October last year, the place looks about the same as I last saw it. Lot of good memories there. You know, you can walk right up to the skytower building's base? There's a security guard there to ensure people don't spraypaint the tower base or anything but you're allowed to go right into the outer plaza area. The tower is impressive but what's really cool is the solid transparent blocks that surround the base section that enters the ground. During the day you can see right down into the workings and the actual entry to the tower which is reached during the day by the escalator just inside the sky city main building.

Weather dampens things, so a bit dreary. Nice grungy feel though. When summer hit it was one of the nicest cities i've been too. Just the way they placed the buildings + parks etc.

9:55 So one night, my mates and I went out clubbing. After going to a couple clubs, my friend tells us we should go to the white house. So we went there expecting it to be a normal night club like every other one. We pay our tickets, doors open, and BANG tits and ass everywhere. Texted my girlfriend that my friend tricked me into going to the strip club, and I felt super guilty but entertained at the same time. That is the story of my first time going to a strip club. Thank you.

K Road "It's an Assault on the Senses" ~ CURLS ... I haven't been to Auckland and K Road since 1999 - 2000 and it was a tad quieter back then but I'm just trying to ascertain where to move to from the Deep South of South Island but definitely NORTH

Have studied at the University (close to Queen St), worked at the casino as a kitchen hand, lived in Symond Street, seen Star Wars when it was new on Queen Street (I was 7), seen Beethoven's Ninth and Diamanda Galas at the town hall, seen big musicals and alternative theatre at the Aotea Centre. K Road is fun, full of galleries and happenings. I don't care why small town folk hate us but I suspect the answer to that is diversity. And spitting is gross.

So agree with everything you say. Our diversity means we are less ignorant. Tick for JAFALand and yeah - stare down the nose to those small town folk.

You've made it to Tiritiri Matangi... I've sailed past it many times and live not far, but I've never actually been on the island myself. Do try a morning to midday trip to Rangitoto though, hike up to the top, and fit in Waiheke Island for an afternoon beer. As for the the spitting in the CBD, that's a foreign import. 🤢

I haven't been to K Road in years. That brings back memories. The Pink Pussycat (Showing my age). But wow. I used to live in Newmarket and would often sneak through Auckland Uni late at night with mates on route to Queens St. That thing about shops and what not closing early, funny you should say that, all Kiwis go to bed at 10 PM. Just kidding. But it used to suck when I was younger.

You look like a rich Londoner in a poor city called Auckland in New Zealand, it's a filthy city Auckland city it's just pile of disgusting unexplained situations that's the Auckland city culture they like it that way, the locals around there are like vampires that only come out at night.

You should go to Rotorua or places up North or on the East Coast if you get a chance, you can experience more Maori culture and see some amazing scenery, but its not like Auckland or other busy cities, its more laid back if you are into that. Your videos are interesting to watch being a Maori woman. Seeing how people from another country react to different places in Aotearoa is quite interesting, keep it up.
