​@@luken136 That's a skewed perception. The 4.5% of men that get swiped right on has ”crazy high” standards because of lots of options. For every 1 of him, 16 women are competing for him. The other 95% of men have normal and below standards. But these men are basically invisible to most women...hence the skewed perception of the total male population. Hence why women say things like all men are asshols, etc. when the reality is that most men are actually ”nice guys" and simps and stuff...as in, about 95%.

Yup. I did it in the early 2000s and it was awful even then. Most of them didn't message me back. I had a decent job, not a bad looking guy in terms of what people perceive as handsome, and just getting a message back was an ordeal. If you're a hetero male in the US and trying online dating you better be in that top 10 or 20% in looks / money. Otherwise it a ghost town. You're invisible to them. It was very humbling for me. Painful and humbling. I did have some successes, though. But considering the amount of work it took I probably wouldn't do it again if I were single again.

Yup. Those statistics are also wrong. Because of height filters most of the women filter out most of the male profiles. It has been proven that most women set filters discarding over 40% of men based solely on looks. These numbers might go as far as 80%. If they swipe right on 4% often this mean that they swipe right on the pool they filtered already out.

I worked and lived in New York City in the late 1990s to early 2000s as a young 20 something male. Tinder wasn't around at the time or online dating as a norm. My female roommate was a model and all of her female friends were a 10 out of 10. They often took me out as a group to the hot clubs etc, and at the time in NYC (and maybe it's still a trend), it was all about being confident for men. I would say nearly all the men my roommate and her friends would date were very unattractive guys (overweight, heavy smokers -yellow teeth, bad complexion,.balding like George Constanza etc) but they all had game and confidence. With confidence they had access to all the amenities the city provided. Maybe the women were into the access, but this group had no issues getting into whatever club or restaurant they wanted to on their own. My roommate ended up with a boyfriend who eventually became my boss. He was a total bull dog in business but not in anyway "attractive" by society's norms. He taught me early on in my career to go for what I wanted in life and to not give a crap about the little things.

I heard this somewhere recently, I think by Dr. Peterson. (I’m glad that I’m married and for a long time have not been dating anymore!): Most US women are not virgins by the time they marry or at least become engaged. Cavewomen won by having one 'high value' man to take care of her baby, caveman won by having enough women and babies to spread his genes. The cave is gone but that is still the programming we have in the back of our skulls. So it makes sense that a woman will chase a man that is of 'high value', even if maybe they can act blind at times and act confused to the reality that the high value players will play. And quite possibly overestimate their value in a western society where every woman is beautiful regardless of the harsh reality we don't like to talk about. And people like me like to point that out. But men get tired of the same woman after the sexual charge that was there early in the relationship goes away even with the best intentions. If the woman looks past that search for 'high value' men where some women don't like to compromise she can still lose to these traps. And sometimes men are just out for sex or act like dogs, even if they are not the 'high value'. Life isn't fair.

An interesting comparison would include how men and women rate themselves on a scale of 1-10 for attractiveness vs. how independent 3rd parties might rate them (i.e., do they tend to underrate or overrate themselves?).

Engauge with people and don't let anyone down talk you, you must always lead in coversations with friends and other people around you in a positive manner, be open if anyone want to engauge. There's a fundamental thing missing in online dating. Initial communication, I can pass hundreds of women on the street and not even notice them for the most part let alone remember them two days later. There’s other ways to make you look better. A beard gives a man the illusion he has a chin and a jaw. Though make sure it’s combed and trimmed regularly. Scraggly facial hair makes you look homeless. You can also play around with different hairstyles and if you need corrective lenses, play with different frame styles. And put more effort into your wardrobe. I’ve noticed a lot of men don’t dress too much different from their sons - a t shirt and shorts/pants and trainers. Women don’t just wear make up we put in some thought to the clothes we wear and the way we get our hair styled. And for frick’s sake we don’t wear dirty clothes. We wash them. We don’t pick clothes off the floor and smell them before deciding if they’re clean enough to wear or not.

The tinder studies don't account for how many people like profiles based on other reason, not just looks. Plus it depends on what pictures are being shown. Not to mention there is a personal bio that each person writes, and depending on what's written there, it could be the deciding factor if you like that profile or not.

Do the math on the top 20% rule of thumb for women's selection of men. If they consider only 20% as average or passable and message only 4% of the total then that's still 20% of that top 20%. Those numbers remain consistent all over the first world where people use those apps.
