Women Rock Jam III Live! - Apr 24 ‘22

WOMEN ROCK III Red Light Cafe, Atlanta - April 24, 2022 After a two-year delay, we finally managed to achieve lift off last night for this BadAsh tribute to female rockers. My band HEARTISANS were the honorary house band for the evening and played our first live performance for 2022. We played a 5-song opening set to start the proceedings and then returned for a second set in the middle. It was a different energy without our official drummer (R. Alan Siler - who was on vacation), but were are very grateful to George Sandler whose hard work on short notice enabled us to make this appearance. Special thanks to Kath Fiddler who added some of her gifted sax work to "Even It Up", but also our debut performance of "Tell It Like It Is". Thanks to Heidi Pollyea (& my bandmates who chipped in), we had a surprise birthday celebration for Johanna (April 25th) and myself (April 28th) with cake for all! Johanna and I blew out the candles together and everyone gorged themselves on sheet cake for the rest of the evening. The members of Heartisans also played a set of music behind Jamear Jackson (vocalist for Lizzy in a Jar) including songs by 4 Non Blondes, Aretha Franklin and Joan Jett. This was also the BadAsh debut of Amy C., who played drums. She's a very promising young player who hope to see more at future jams. When we were rehearsing this wet with her on Saturday, she tackled several Heart songs (+ "Band On The Run") capably without even fully knowing them! Amy has great instincts and a nice personality too. I played bass on two songs, but also got to pull out my Strat for their rendition of "Chain of Fools". Heidi played two sets last night, which included songs from Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Alanis Morrissette, as well as her own arrangement of Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" and the Fleetwood Mac (Dixie Chicks arrangement) of "Landslide", which was especially memorable. She was joined by the "birthday girl" Johanna Millin on lead guitar, Mike Ciarochi on bass and Adrian on drums. More kudos to Kath Fiddler too for really shining on the Fiddlestick's Fancy Five set with Regeana (who also sounded great). Their cover of Romeo Void's "Never Say Never" definitely sticks out in my mind. 🙂 It was lovely seeing Laura and Ken Lockie there last night too. Laura always performs with so much energy and it's always great to talk with her. Thanks to Allen WG, Melissa Goehner and Jeff Blanks for coming out too! Although Heartisans were the honorary house band, the usual BadAsh House Band (including Adrian Ash, Sean Tonar, Tim Snapke and Bill Sommer) actually put in a lot more time on stage behind vocalists Regeana Campbell, Christine Strain and Laura Lockie. They played several sets of musical tributes to Pretenders, The Go Go's and The Carpenters, while also mixing it up with some 80's New Wave favorites, Cyndi Lauper, Amy Winehouse, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and even Nancy Sinatra! It was a ton of music to tackle, so much praise to all of those musicians for really putting in the work to round out this jam. It was a wonderful evening of music for all who attended.
