The Fans at Hayward Field got treated to the High-Voltage Excitement of the Women's 800m. The event got underway at 13:48 (local time), The temperature range that day was between 13°C - 26°C (55°F - 78°F). The City of Eugene is located at an altitude of 131 meters (430 feet) above sea level.
The event featured ten athletes, eight of them were Tokyo Olympians: Ajeé Wilson (USA), Halimah Nakaayi (Uganda), the remaining five were Tokyo Olympic Finalists: Jemma Reekie (Great Britain), Natoya Goule (Jamaica), the Olympic Bronze Medalist Raevyn Rogers (USA), the Olympic Silver Medalist Keely Hodgkinson (Great Britain), the Olympic Champion Athing Mu (USA), and Women's 4x400m Relay Gold Medalist Kaylin Whitney (USA) the Pace Maker.
Special mention to former Yale University Bulldog Kate Grace (USA) a tough competitor.
As soon as the Pace Maker Whitney (USA) stepped off at the end of the first lap and at the sound of the bell, the Olympic Champ Athing Mu (USA) turned on her boosters and took off, she just accelerated and left the field fighting for second place. Mu crossed the Finish Line with an advantage of nearly two and a half seconds in 1:55.04, representing for the Olympic Champ a World Leading, a National Record (this is more like a Continental Record, and I am talking North, Central and South America), a Meet Record, and a Personal Best. Her winning time represented a decrease in time of 0.148 % with respect to her previous Best time of 1:55.21 her Tokyo Olympic Gold Medal-Winning time.
