Happy New Year! My greenhouse went into 2023 with a new beautiful floor, surrounded by pavers and straps are on to keep it from flying away in any heavy wind. Coworkers and family have been raving about the tea bags I’ve created so I have plans to grow many new starts for larger herb beds in the spring. Fever Few for menstrual cramps, sage for aches muscles and sore throat. I’m hoping some of these ladies will come visit in the spring to help stuff their own tea bags. I’m trying to create a community of ladies to help each other.

Thank you so much for the tradition I did not know about, Terry! I often feel lost in the respect of who I am since I’m first generation American and my English parents are long gone. We didn’t follow too many old country rituals and I feel stuck in the in between. Maybe that’s why I watch mostly British KZbin channels and television programs. I will celebrate Women’s Christmas on the 6th with my oldest daughter and have a meal out. @@DanusIrishHerbGarden LOL. I had a little laugh as anything to celebrate women in my culture/family of origin was unheard of and therefore much treasured by me now as an adult. Old Christmas in Appalachia was said to be when the animals around the manger spoke, which is actually the legend that I treasure as I am such an animal lover. Celebrations were also sort of reminiscent of trick or treat as, once darkness fell, people would try to sneak up to a neighbor's house undetected. If they were successful, the neighbor had to feed them. This latter tradition was before my time as neighbors might not be so known to one another now, but my sons researched these customs when they were young as part of a homeschool project. I mainly keep Old Christmas now to prolong the season of love and cheer and to pay homage to forgotten traditions, including the simplicity of Christmas when I was a child. I'm so very glad to hear of Women's Christmas and the appreciation it brings to the contributions of women. TY for sharing and for asking.

I can remember rushing home from Midnight Mass to see if our dog had anything to say but I think we got back too late. My birthday is on January 6th). In Russia, on January 7, the usual Orthodox Christmas is celebrated. And the sixth is considered Christmas Eve. Even the wise old women say that this is the day of witches!)

In the States it's all football and shopping sales and so on, but here on my farm I look after my animals and the greenhouse, I always sow basil seeds and knit a hat for charity. This year the 6th of January also falls on the full moon, which is celebrated in the Northern Tradition Heathenry as Yule by a large section of the community, unless for familiar and commercial reasons they've chosen either the Winter Solstice or xtian celebratory day. Part of the Yule feast is a celebration especially dedicated to the female ancestors, some celebrate this as Dísirblót, others as Mothersnight, as origins of these feasts are varied and all noted down by xtians, who might have had their own agenda in determining the dates. Anyway, I want to wish you a marvelous time with your friends, soak up lots of good vibes and energy to fall back on in times of need. ❤️ And thank you for this lovely video!

Happy New Year Terri. Lovely tradition and I plan on celebrating Jan 6! Something interesting that I learned and that is according to the heavenly bodies…the sun and planets …the New Year energy begins on Jan 21 or 22 each year. That is when the sun enters a certain gate and when we should set our intentions. That is the simple explanation lol. I think it has to do with astrology and transits. I’m going to try that as well and continue learning about this…Blessings❤️

Thanks for sharing your traditions of Ireland! My best friend of my early childhood immigrated from Ireland when she was about 6 years old.
