LB7 Aliya didn’t have a major mistake on beam for her acrobatic series. All she did was miss the bonus points for the connection because she was too tentative. And she scored a full point lower than Shang on beam, since she had a bunch of baubles as well. I wouldn’t consider that her over scoring. Shang’s vault was only a 5 difficulty, causing her to score very low, in the 13’s, where the top qualifiers were in the 15s. That is a major difference. Especially since vault always has more inflated scores than beam and these beam judges were being harsh anyway. The vault just wasn’t good enough to get her all the way there, regardless of other routines. You need that inflated score to measure up.

@carliecole25634 жыл бұрын
I'm CERTAINLY not saying this to dog on Simone whatsoever, I think she's one of the most amazing athletes of all time & I love her!!! But... Am I the only one who thinks it's a little odd that she gets SOoooo much praise and high scores for how "perfect" she is, when she, quite honestly, very rarely ever compeltely STICKS her landings...? I guess she does on FLOOR- but most ppl do. & I understand that she executes her skills so well & performs such HIGH LEVEL skills that getting a .1 or even a .3 penalty for taking steps on landing isn't a HUGE deal for her... But, I just don't see her dead-stick her landings very often at ALL- particularly on Vault & on her Beam dismounts... Seems to stick her bars dismounts a little more frequently- but bars aren't her best event, so she doesn't perform super hard routines & therefore she probably has more gas in the tank & can/NEEDS to focus more on sticking her landing in order to get a decent score still... Like I said, still think Simone is incredible- and I know a lot of times she takes a step or more like a "bounce" on landing because she has TOO MUCH POWER- but I'd sure love to see her reach TRUE perfection with more stuck landings!!!

@HB-ey2dk4 жыл бұрын
@@carliecole2563 I think the reason is, sticking the landing really isn't going to give her much higher scores. A .1 or .3 isn't going to do much to her score when her execution and difficulty level is so much higher than anyone elses. I think theres too much emphasis on a stuck landing. Yes -- it makes the routine seem that much better but score wise, it's a small thing. She doesn't land with her chest low which would be another deduction alot of people get. Shes just clean, powerful and ahead of her time. But yes, I'd absolutely love to see stuck landings every time.
@ginger36614 жыл бұрын
@@carliecole2563 If we're being technical about her greatness, she can let the extra hops, steps, or out of bounds pass in her routines because her difficulty is so much higher than everybody else. @maia90564 жыл бұрын
If she hadn’t torn her ACL in 2010, she most likely would have won in 2012. She was constantly injured in the 2013-16 quad, she fought her way back and if she hadn’t been injured she most probably would have gotten silver.

Imagine Aliya doesn't have a fall in beam, and doing Amanar in London 2012. Wow wow wow. Best Russian Team ever, Aliya, Vika, Ksenia, Grishina, Paseka (without messy amanar and cheng). Good old days
@maia90564 жыл бұрын
Achmad Choirul Huda She probably would have won gold as she was more consistent on beam before her injury. Also she could’ve won gold on vault with Maroneys fall. What an amazing Russian team it would’ve been.

Nah she placed correctly. People like to ignore that she's the weakest vaulter of the entire AA final. And that even though she doesn't have bobbles on beam or steps on floor, that her form is subpar to put it lightly. Maybe it has to do with her slight figure, but her knees and feet never seem right and I'm sure she gets a lot of deductions for that and for lack of power/amplitude - something you probably can't see on film but the judges can see.

Aliya botched her beam set and Shang still couldn't beat her. That proves the third best gymnast in the final was really Aliya (in reality Aliya was the 5-6th best AA'er in Rio, behind the Americans, but that's irrelevant). -- Like Andrew said, Shang's judging was fair. She wasn't able to fix her knees. Though I really wanted her to take AA bronze after being sick. Her Rio performance reminds me of Yao Jinnan's in London. Full of talent, just unlucky with illness/injury. ):

Don´t forget that her 3 1/2 twist was underrotated and her 3 twist was low, and even though she stuck perfectly both the punch fronts after that, the judges aren´t fooled easily by these covers.

unpopular opinion: aliya mustafina actually deserved her bronze medal due to her beautiful and artistic floor routine, solid yurchenko double on vault, and amazing bar routine. with that being said shang only performed a subpar full on vault and some of her twists on floor were under rotated, leading to some slight overscoring for her on that event. I agree w the fact that her beam was great, and her bars were good but in my personal opinion it was not enough to overtake aliya and i agreed w the judges opinion:)) im open to discussion though!

Hey, u just seemed like someone who actually KNOWS a lot about this sport, so, I'm asking YOU! Sorry thinks off-topic tho- I admittedly don't know a lot about gymnastics; I enjoy watching and have started watching more &more the past few years! Which of the 4 apparatus is the most physically TAXING& probably requires the most, I guess your say the most endurance or stamina?? Obviously, I wouldn't say vault, it's over in just a few seconds- thru definitely seem like the bars (according to announcers??) Take a ton of strength & stamina... especially if they fall or have an error and have to re do parts. I would THINK the floor XR would be by far the most exhausting.... but then I could also see how even BEAM might be the most tiring because it's be so MENTALLY exhausting & that can in turn become equally as exhausting physically?! Ahhh!!! So, what would YOU say is the most tiring apparatus...?? (Again, sorry this is so random! I just tried to find someone in the comments who seemed to know their stuff! Lol)

@@SnoopySubo well unless the translation on the video was completely and totally off, that may just be wishful thinking. Unfortunately its not the first racist comment we've heard from other jealous countries. I love being able to watch these at least on youtube. Was working at camp in 2012 and 2016 so I wasn't able to watch the olympics those summers (Well, very little if at all). I remember how back in 1996 they were commenting on Shannon Miller and Dominique Dawes' ages (19) and how "old" they seemed, and then you get these three. Simone 19, and the Aly and Aliya in their 20s and think how time has changed. Simone didn't make the cut for the 2012 games age wise, but she OBVIOUSLY still had it in 2016 (and last I heard, even after taking some time off after the 2016 games, is STILL amazing) Times have changed. I recently saw Chellsie Memmel is also trying to make a comeback...12 years later. Proof that age is NOT everything. Laughable that 19 was considered "old' in 1996.

I am sooo proud of Aly for rocking her beam routine ❤❤❤ And you can tell she was relieved it went well. I can't imagine what was going through Aly's mind as she got ready to do beam and as she was up there.... but I'm sure her mistakes on beam that contributed to her missing the medal in London AA couldn't have been far from her mind, especially after a shaky beam in Quals and a poor bars immediately before this... I don't know how gymnasts manage the pressure and have a short memory. I know I'd be a mess.
