FC Bulleen Lions claimed its first Women’s State Knockout Cup crown with an upset 2-0 win over South Melbourne Women’s FC in a free-flowing final at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday.
The win caps off a meteoric rise for the Sportsmart Women’s Premier League club - which had its debut season in the top flight in 2013 - while South Melbourne will add yet another loss at the final hurdle to its ever growing list.
In the end it was a wonder strike from Tessa Sernio and a scrappy goal from Emily Coppock that got Bulleen over the line.
