Setting this movie during the First World War was such a good decision. In the comics, Wonder Woman first travels to "man's world" during WW2 (later retconned to the Vietnam War), but setting it during the "Great War," the "war to end all wars," is not only appropriate to the story, but it adds so much extra gravitas. The decision NOT to set it during WW2, though, was apparently made because Marvel had already released Captain America which was set during WW2, and DC feared that audiences might find it too similar. In any event, whatever the full reasoning was, it just works so well.

Yeah, this is my favourite too (despite being a bigger fan of Superman and especially Batman as characters). Everything just works and I like Diana's realisation about people - she's not blind to our flaws but she fights for us anyway and _that_ feels genuinely "superheroic".

Not sure if it was mentioned but the explanation Diana gives to Steve about her origin (being sculpted from Clay and brought to life by Zeus) is close to her original origin. In the comics the Greek Gods gave her life and powers. Her being the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta is the more recent origin given a few years ago, not long before the movie was released, and was actually closer to the origin of the 2nd Wonder Girl who was the daughter of Zeus and a human woman and a big fan of Wonder Woman and the original Wonder Girl.

I wonder if they ever planned to show the Justice Society of America in Wonder Woman, if it was set in WWII instead. Showing all the Golden Age DC heroes fighting alongside Wonder Woman during WW2. But I feel like that would've weakened Man of Steel, since it portrayed Superman as the world’s first contact with "superhumans." Having a publicly formed team of WWII-era heroes active decades earlier would’ve undermined Superman’s reveal to the world, humanity's fear and essentially removing the whole point of the film. Hopefully, we’ll see the Justice Society in the new DCU, especially since the new Superman will be active in a world that’s always had superheroes, going way decades. I can totally see a young Clark Kent hearing stories about the Justice Society and other heroes while growing up, kind of like how a young Bruce Wayne visited Metropolis and saw Alan Scott’s Green Lantern flying overhead in the Batman: Hush comic.

Wonder Woman is the perfect female Superhero. She's strong and brave but also still has some feminine nature in her as well. A lot of strong female characters showed in media have no softness at all. Being tough and masculine is their biggest character traits. It is nice to see such a well rounded and fleshed out female character in a superhero movie.

For me, Wonder Woman stands as the true beacon of hope, inspiration, and courage in the DCEU, more so than Superman. The past few films focused too much on reinventing Superman and building up to a version of the character that never fully materialized. In many ways, Wonder Woman felt more like a Superman film than Man of Steel. Her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the highlight of the movie for me. Wonder Woman (2017) is what happens when you hire someone who truly appreciates the character. David S. Goyer, who wrote the Man of Steel script admitted he wasn't a fan of Superman. Christopher Nolan, fresh off working on The Dark Knight Rises, also contributed to the script. In my opinion, if you're approaching a project with the goal of reinventing Superman because you think he's "boring" or simply don't like the character, then you probably shouldn't be working on a Superman movie in the first place. It's ironic, considering that just a year prior, we had Superman vs. The Elite (2012), which explored the very discussion on why a traditional Superman, one who doesn’t kill and prioritizes keeping civilians out of harm’s way is necessary. The film introduced a new, young team who saw Superman as outdated and were willing to kill to bring peace to the world. A shift in the superhero community, moving away from the traditional values of heroism and embracing a more morally ambiguous approach to justice. Highly recommend it, Superman vs. The Elite (2012), All-Star Superman (2011), all amazing Superman films that do so much justice to the character.
@AllMachineAllChrome5 сағат бұрын
To be fair David S. Goyer isn’t exactly a huge comic book guy so his take on Superman is understandable. Superman is one of the most misunderstood superheroes by mainstream audiences since he's rarely done justice outside of the comics beyond animation and TV. Shows like Superman: The Animated Series, Superman and Lois, and My Adventures with Superman, last two being the most recent Superman shows and some of the best Superman content we've had in the past two decades.

Too often the source material takes a back seat to someone's "creative vision" and becomes a vehicle to showcase their greatness. Sometimes, I think changes are made just to make the point that this is their story, not the creators of the source material.

Love this movie, Gal played her so good. I like how naive and innocent she is to the world and people are really like. When it finally hits her full force that people don't need Ares to corrupt them, we already have that negativity inside us, it nearly broke her to just stop fighting. After Steve's sacrifice she went into full rage and attacked the soldiers with her powers, which left Ares in awe. Ares started making some good points to his cause to her and probably could have corrupted her to his side, but he had to trash talk about Steve and that did him in. Now we see why she was hesitant to help out in Superman Vs Batman. After the death of Steve, she was so over with the world that she just didn't get involved in world affairs... until recent times.

Whats crazy is they almost cut the no mans land scene but the movies director Patty Jenkins fought hard to keep it and in doing so created, IMO, one of the best comic book movie scenes to ever be filmed. I also really love how at the end of it all, despite being a god and everything that happened she is still another face in the crowd who lost the love of their life to the war like thousands of others. In our historical imagination, WW1 was much more about the first modern combat -- trench warfare, machine guns, and chemical weapons -- while WW2 was about hate, prejudice, Hitler, and the Pacific. A story focused on an unidentifiable Ares is a much better fit for WW1. I would say the change was "inspired" more than simply "interesting."

@moviereviews4life4 сағат бұрын
The liquid that Steve is in at the start is thought to be one of the Lazarus Pits, this is what Ra's Al Ghul uses to keep himself young & how Jason Todd (2nd Robin) is put in to be revived after Joker kills him. The stuff the General uses to get stronger is an early version of what will be Venom, a poison that Bane uses to get stronger & fight Batman. Wonder Woman has 2 main origins. The first is where she was molded from clay & given life by Zeus. That was later evolved into having powers from each God. This was what is told to her as a story. During the New 52, they revamped her origins as being the daughter of Zeus & Queen Hippolyta, making her a Demigoddess. This is what ultimately turns out to be the truth here. She becomes the Goddess of War after defeating Area taking the mantle. The interesting about Ares is he isn't evil, He's simply an influence on the people of the world. Feeding on their deepest fears & hate. But the people are still responsible for their own actions. Both Zack Snyder & Patty Jenkins developed the film together with the writers. Snyder in fact won an award for his role in the film. So the slow mo was likely his influence. Originally Wonder Woman 2 was supposed to continue from ZSJL, but with Geoff Johns changing everything that was made with him involved & Jenkins was not happy with the changes.

Connie Nielsen plays Queen Hippolyta (she was Commodus' sister in Gladiator), and Robin Wright is General Antiope (she was Buttercup in the Princess Bride) :D Also in the New 52 timeline (the current one), Diana is the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus (once again, he famously can't keep it in his pants), rather than the "clay figure brought to life" from the Golden Age era origin, although this story was used as a cover to protect her from Hera's wrath, not Ares :P. This explains her demigod status a lot better imo, as it aligns with actual mythology, and makes her abilities as the god-killer make more sense. The Amazons are fierce warriors, but only she has the power of the gods.

You'll probably watch it because this is a react channel and because you enjoyed this one, but you've been warned. Zack Snyder's Justice League and Aquaman are really the last of the DC movies. WW1984 and the Flash are so bad they should be ignored and Aquaman 2, while not *that* bad, just isn't up to the standard of the earlier ones. Thanks for your awesome channel! :D

Diana was a gift, of sorts, from Zeus to Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. She created Diana from clay and Zeus gave her life, this is why she was not an full Amazon, like all the adults, but because of Zeus she did have the capacity to learn from them how to fight, and of course, she was a demi-god, so she also had power. That was, in short, how Wonder-Woman came to be.
@flatebo15 сағат бұрын
Mythologically the Amazons are the descendants of Ares, their first queen being the daughter of Ares and Harmonia, a nymph/demigoddess. Amazons were a tribe with no men. They would occasionally breed with worthy men, but kept only their daughters, sending any sons born back to their fathers to raise. With the success of Superman and Batman, DC Comics asked popular feminist psychologist Wiliam Moulton Marston to create a female equivalent to appeal to the untapped girl market for superheroes. Marston was famous at the time primarily for inventing the lie detector. He incorporated the idea into Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth as well as making significant alterations to the origin of the Amazons. A Hollywoodized version of the story of Marston's creation of Wonder Woman can be found in the 2017 film Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.

Hi Addie Haven’t got to the end of this video yet but make sure u watch Zack Snyder’s Justice league 2021. Do not watch 2017 josstice league. Zack Snyder, who had directed both films, was set to helm Justice League as well, with an ambitious two-part story planned for 2017 and 2019. Production began in 2016, with the movie slated for a November 2017 release. 2. Snyder Steps Down After Personal Tragedy (May 2017) • In May 2017, Snyder stepped down from directing Justice League due to the tragic suicide of his daughter, Autumn. At this point, the film was deep into post-production, with most of the footage already filmed. Snyder’s departure left the film in an unfinished state, requiring major revisions to be completed. 3. Joss Whedon Takes Over (May 2017 - October 2017) • Joss Whedon, director of The Avengers (2012), was brought in to finish the film. Whedon oversaw reshoots and extensive changes to the story, tone, and pacing. • The studio ultimately altered around 80% of the original footage, with much of Snyder’s vision being replaced or reworked to fit a lighter, more humorous tone. The reshoots were designed to make the film more in line with The Avengers, including a trimmed down runtime and a shift toward a less serious, more family-friendly atmosphere. 4. Reshoots and Challenges (Summer 2017) • Extensive reshoots took place in the summer of 2017, which included reworking entire scenes, adding new visual effects, and significantly altering character arcs. One of the most infamous issues involved Henry Cavill’s Superman, as the actor was unavailable for reshoots due to his commitment to Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Warner Bros. decided to digitally remove his mustache, resulting in a widely mocked CGI effect in the final film. • The reshoots and changes caused tension, as the film’s tone and structure diverged drastically from Snyder’s darker, more serious approach, leading to a final product that many found inconsistent. 5. Release and Reception (November 2017) • Justice League was released in November 2017, with Joss Whedon credited as the director. The film grossed $657 million worldwide, which was considered underwhelming given its large budget. • The movie received mixed-to-negative reviews, with widespread criticism of its inconsistent tone, rushed pacing, and visual effects (particularly Superman’s mustache removal). Many fans felt that the film lacked the depth and emotional weight of the earlier DCEU entries. 6. The “Snyder Cut” Movement (2017-2020) • Following the film’s release, fans launched the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, pushing for Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s original version of the film. They believed Snyder’s cut would provide a more cohesive and faithful representation of his vision. • The movement gained widespread attention, with stars like Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Jason Momoa expressing support for the release. Fans argued that the 80% of footage changed in post-production had severely compromised Snyder’s intended story. 7. Release of the Snyder Cut (2021) • After years of fan demand, Warner Bros. announced that Snyder’s version of Justice League, titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League, would be released on HBO Max in 2021. This version was a four-hour cut that included significant re-edits, restored scenes, and visual effects that aligned with Snyder’s original vision. • The Snyder Cut was well-received by fans and critics, who praised the film for its improved character arcs, more cohesive narrative, and a darker, more epic tone. However, the film’s long runtime and darker themes still made it polarizing among general audiences. 8. Aftermath and Legacy • Despite the critical success of the Snyder Cut, Justice League remains a symbol of the challenges Warner Bros. faced in creating a unified DCEU. The studio’s decision to drastically alter 80% of the original footage has become a key point of contention, and the resulting film highlighted the difficulty of maintaining a consistent vision amidst corporate pressures. • The Snyder Cut has since become a landmark in fan-driven campaigns and remains a defining moment in DCEU history, but Warner Bros. has since focused on more standalone films, shifting away from the interconnected approach of the original DCEU vision.

@DarthPoyner6 сағат бұрын
It shouldn't. That scene trivializes the sacrifices of the men and the importance of the women in that war. Some mary sue that can't die basically saying that they are all cowards for not risking their lives to push for a few inches of soil. And if it were Superman it would be the same. You can't be a hero if you aren't risking yourself. And she does this the entire movie. Chastising people for not being a super powered demi-god. And in the end, she is broken because of her romantic attachment to a man she barely met. My wife stormed out of the theater when we saw this movie. She has never been so mad about the portrayal of women.
@bigdream_dreambig6 сағат бұрын
It's a delicate balance. Often "equal representation" can feel contrived, fake, and absurd (like that scene in Endgame); other times it's triumphant and empowering. Focusing on Good Storytelling is way more important. The rest should just naturally follow.

Seriously, Diana is my favourite superhero. She's literally an immortal Goddess in the new lore, and the pricks at Rocksteady unceremoniously killed her off. Crappest DC game EVER. They're like, every DC hero is dead... shit, people are upset. They were only clones, just kidding. Don't be mad at us. Except Wonder Woman, she's still dead. The least likely of ALL the characters to die... and I'm like, OK, screw you, I'm done with this franchise.

I loved this movie. One of my favorite superhero movies. Which makes it so disappointing that I hated the second WW.

Steve and Steve end a movie in a plane accident. This ending of Steve dying in a plane accident was too much like Captain America: The First Avenger. I understand that DC took things from Marvel, and Marvel took things from DC, but this was ridiculous.

Act 1 and 2 are so good, and WB ruined act 3 by forcing in Ares. The story would be so much better if it was just men being evil. And WB also tried to remove the No Man's Land scene, they had no clue... but then, WW1984 turned out to be horrible, so maybe they should have interfered there :D Here is hoping Gunn can bring a more cohesive and rewarding spin on the DCU.

This is the best movie in the slightly disappointing DCU (modern) era movies.

I am glad that you're enjoying the DCEU films. I kind of envy you as well. As a DC fan, these films were a huge disappointment (to be really kind); although, I would save 4 of them, which I believe are hands down the best: The Suicide Squad (not the one you've already reacted to, but the one directed by James Gunn; NOT a sequel, by the way), Wonder Woman, Shazam! and Blue Beetle. Overall, I am personally glad that this universe got canned; it actually took way too long to get to that conclusion. Can't wait for the new DCU's first film release which is 'Superman' in July. Regardless, looking forward to your reactions.

A Wonderful origin and character story that unfortunately is trapped within the DCEU. Snyder didn't know what to do with the character, and even Jenkins lost the plot with WW 1984.
