As an American Soldier and a former Philippine Army Soldier, my great advices for any military applicants around the world are especially for the SPECIAL FORCES training: 1.) Avoid creating unwanted attention. 2.) Observe everything around. 3.) Be a team player. 4.) Don't quit / Never give up. May the Lord God bless you and your family always.

The Special Operations Group (GGK) is one of the country's main special forces under the auspices of the Malaysian Armed Forces and is also an elite force that is respected by many because of their ability to do anything. This team operates in Sungai Udang in Melaka and Mersing in Johor. History[edit | edit source] The establishment of this elite army force started during the confrontation involving the Malaysia-Indonesia Federation in 1965. As a solution to the problems arising from the confrontation, the Malaysian Minister of Defense at that time, Tun Abdul Razak bin Haji Dato' Hussein, gave instructions to conduct a unit test. The Minister of Defense has ordered volunteers and a number of volunteers from the army and navy to participate. On 25 February 1965, a basic commando training was introduced and conducted by the 40th British Royal Marines Commando Regiment at Majidee Camp, Johor Bahru, Johor. Of the 300 volunteers who participated, only 15 were selected to undergo basic Commando training for 6 weeks. At the end of the training, only 4 Officers and 9 members of other ranks succeeded in this training and was also the first nucleus troop. They are : Major Abu Hassan bin Abdullah (12036) (Retired Colonel) Lieutenant Mohd Ramli bin Ismail (12212) (Retired Major General) Young Lieutenant Ghazali bin Ibrahim (12264) (Retired Major General) Young Lieutenant Hussin bin Awang Senik (12276) (Retired Colonel) 6842 Sergeant Ariffin bin Mohamed (Retired PW I) 300152 Sergeant Anuar bin Talib (Retired PW II) 4861 Sergeant Zakaria bin Abbas (Retired S/Sjn) 201128 Sergeant Yahya bin Darus 202072 Corporal Silva Dorai (Retired S/Sjn) 203712 Corporal Moo Kee Fah (Retired PW II) 10622 Corporal Sabri bin Ahmad (Retired PW II) 13852 Lance Corporal Johari bin Haji Mohd Sirat (Retired PW II) This success proves that Malaysians are also capable of taking on any role and task given. With guidance and instruction from special trainers from the 40th Regiment of British Royal Marines Commando under the leadership of Major Bacons and Captain Seager, the Special Operations Group began to expand its wings in the same year, they managed to overcome 6 commando basic exercises. Major Abu Hassan bin Abdullah was the First Commanding Officer of the Grak Khas Group (GGK), and Sergeant Ariffin became the first Squadron Major. At the end of 1965, GGK's strength was 70%. In order to ensure development in line with the elite forces, officers of various ranks are sent abroad to undergo special courses such as aerial infiltration, free diving, special operations, rangers, amphibious techniques and so on. Members of the 11th Special Operations Regiment in a close combat training session. This team has made a lot of name for the country throughout its career fighting terror!sm. GGK also holds training together with elite forces from other countries such as KOPASSUS TNI-AD from Indonesia, Special Air Service (Australia, Britain), Special Service Group (Pakistan), US Delta Force and Green Beret (United States). KOPASSUS which is the Indonesian elite team that most often conducts cross-training together with this GGK because in order to protect the good name of both related countries after the confrontation, this team established a friendly relationship with this elite unit. GGK had conducted operations in East Malaysia and during the incident of 13 May 1969. After the 1967 Confrontation, there were discussions whether to continue or maintain this special unit. This is because there are financial implications from the GGK unit where it is equivalent to the needs of two Infantry Battalions. Due to the issue, GGK was transferred to Segenting Camp, Port Dickson in 1968. The May 13 incident has proven that GGK is a valuable asset for the government and should be maintained and expanded to the regime. When new elements and units were absorbed into the GGK, they were transferred to Sungai Udang Camp, Malacca and on 1 August 1970, the first Special Operations Regiment was formed. Although GGK got credit in 1971 but its membership still belongs to the respective corps. This situation causes problems for planning the career of its members. To overcome this problem, volunteers were removed from the list to join the Special Regiment. In 1973, the corps was assigned to 6 officers.

Berakit & bersampan melawan arus sungai. Tolak assult boat yg tersangkut di tangah2 beting sungai Pahang. Lalu kat kpg org asli, berjalan kaki meredah jalan tar, laluan kereta api, meredah hutan dan bukit bukau tak kira siang dan malam sampailah ke garisan penamat..masa tu sye baru je lepas kawen, first isteri kena tinggal semasa bertugas dalam masa panjang.

i think the reference at the beginning to the british royal marines setttng up the cadre refers to the royal british jungle tracking school - eventually run by malaysia armed forces. there is a reference to it by ronald glasser in his classic book , 365 says ., chronicling us army fighting in vietnam. the chapter is 'brock', the nom de guerre of a us special forces officer who trained at this school: - “Do you know anything about the Special Forces?” Brock asked. “I was with an SMT group-Special Mission Team. After jump school and Ranger training, my team was sent to Malaysia-the Royal British Jungle Tracking School there. They’d send us out in that jungle and then capture us and beat us up and then send us out again. I thought we were tough, too-Airborne, Ranger training, Special Forces school-but they knew how to live in the jungle, how to use it. For Christ’s sake, they even liked it.” the book is well worth a read. btw, i may well b wrong so happy to b corrected.

Any sectional or platoon strength infantryman usually carry shotgun for those taking the point. Any encounter could be dealt with an awesome killing power of a shotgun. Apart from shotgun, they also carry carbines as their primary weaponry.

The main theaters of operations were within Malaysian borders, primarily to fight an insurgency led by the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) in what was known as the Emergency. The only foreign incursion of Malaysian territory in modern times were in World War II by Japan (Malaya was then not a unified political entity and consisted of the British Crown Colony of the Straits Settlements, and the British protected Federated Malay States and Unfederated Malay States) and during the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation by Indonesia under the leadership of President Sukarno. Operations on foreign soil have mainly been peacekeeping operations under the auspices of the United Nations. First Emergency (1948-1960) An insurrection and guerrilla war of the Malayan National Liberation Army organised by the CPM against the British and Malayan administration. Moro attacks on Malaysia (Part of the Piracy in the Sulu Sea) (1962-present) Congo Peacekeeping Mission (1960-1962) A contingent of 1,947 personnel were dispatched as part of the United Nations Operation in the Congo or ONUC. This contingent was known as the Malayan Special Force to the Congo and their experiences there were later recounted through the drawings of the cartoonist, Rejabhad. Sarawak Communist Insurgency (1963-1990) An insurrection and guerrilla war of the Sarawak Communist Organisation (from 1971, the North Kalimantan Communist Party or NKCP) against the British and Malaysian governments to establish an independent nation comprising the states of Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei. The insurgency ended when the NKCP signed a peace treaty with the Malaysian government in 1990. Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation (1963-1966) An intermittent armed conflict between Malaysia and Indonesia with skirmishes mainly occurring in Sarawak and Sabah in the island of Borneo. In 1964, armed raids were made on Peninsular Malaysia. Combat eased with the deposing of Indonesia's President Sukarno in 1965 by the Indonesian army and the conflict was declared over by both sides in 1966. Communist insurgency in Malaysia (1968-89) A low level resurgence of insurgent activity by the armed elements of the CPM from sanctuaries in the Malaysian-Thai border. The insurgency was only ended after the CPM signed a peace treaty with the Governments of Malaysia and Thailand on 2 December 1989. Iran/Iraq Border (1988-1991) Participated as part of the UN Iran-Iraq Military Observer Group (UNIIMOG) to supervise the Iran-Iraq War ceasefire. Namibia (1989-1990) Contributed a battalion to the UN Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG) to supervise Namibia's elections and transition to independence. Western Sahara (1991-present) A contingent of observers under the Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to help implement a ceasefire between the Polisario Front & Morocco and help promote referendum on area's future. Angola (1991-1995) A contingent was sent under the United Nations Angola Verification Mission II (UNAVEM II) to enforce the ceasefire in Angolan civil war. Iraq/Kuwait Border (1992-2003) A contingent was sent under the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) to monitor the demilitarised zone along the Iraq-Kuwait border, deter border violations and report on any hostile action. Cambodia (1992-1993) An observer team was sent under the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) to aid in the administration of Cambodia and to organise and run elections. Bosnia and Herzegovina (1993-1998) A peacekeeping contingent known as MALBATT Command (Malaysia Battalion) was sent initially under the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) from 1993 to 1995 with deployments at Konjic, Jablanica and Pazarić in Hadžići. Following the Dayton Agreement, forces were redeployed as MALCON Command (Malaysia Contingent) under the NATO led Implementation Force (IFOR) in Operation Joint Endeavor with deployments at Livno, Glamoč and Kupres. MALCON further participated as part of the NATO led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) until 1998. Up to 8,000 troops were eventually deployed in this theatre of operations. Liberia (1993-1997) An observer team of 3 officers was sent under the United Nations Observer Mission in Liberia (UNOMIL) to support the efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Liberian National Transitional Government to implement peace agreements signed between the warring parties in Liberia. Somalia (1993-1994) A contingent known as MALBATT was sent under the United Nations Operation in Somalia II (UNOSOM II) to take appropriate action, including enforcement measures, to establish throughout Somalia a secure environment for humanitarian assistance. During its deployment, MALBATT was involved in the Battle of Mogadishu which saw 1 personnel killed in action and 7 others wounded in action during the relief operations to aid the surrounded troops of the United States' Task Force Ranger. On 18 January 1994, Lieutenant General Abu Samah Bin Abu Bakar was appointed the Commander of UNOSOM II forces. His appointment also saw the United Nations revise the mandate of UNOSOM II to stop using "coercive methods" in the discharge of their duties while retaining "some capability to defend its personnel if circumstances so warrant."[5] Mozambique (1993-1995) A team of observers were sent under the United Nations Operations in Mozambique (ONUMOZ). Lahad Datu standoff (2013) Deployed in South Lebanon on peace keeping role at present after the withdrawal of Israeli Military forces early 2007 (Invasion of South Lebanon by Israeli Military). Unit also consist of GGK, PASKAL, PASKAU and PARA elements.[6] Deployed a contingent called Malaysian Medical Team (MASMEDTIM) to Chaman, Pakistan to treat refugees from Afghanistan during the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. Deployed approximately a brigade-sized force on islands surrounding Sabah waters in Ops Pasir to prevent the recurrence of 2000 Sipadan kidnappings. Deployed a contingent to Acheh after the tsunami disaster in 2004. Deployed MASMEDTIM to Pakistan during the 2005 quake. Deployed in Southern Philippines as a part of monitoring force agreed upon by both the Philippine Government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Deployed in East Timor/East Leste together with Australian, Portuguese and New Zealand forces at the request of East Timor Government. The first team of 25 soldiers from 10 Para Brigade, Royal Intelligence Corp and Commando Regiment were deployed on a fact-finding mission before being reinforced by another 209 soldiers. (as at 27 May 2006) Other limited participation under UNPKO are United Nations International Police Force (UNIPTF) since December 1995; United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) since June 1999; United Nations Observer Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) since October 1999; United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) since September 1999 and United Nations Organisation Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) since February 2000. 18 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel have been killed during UN peacekeeping operations.

Most modern army functions with technology, they have modern ration and modern navigation equipment. the jungle training commando course in Malaysia teaches you how to survive with the bare minimum, knife & pants only. But this is only the selection process, they will learn more if they are selected.

They are not designed the special forces but then were designed a commando. And this is the differences between sf and commando. Not all sf operator can be a commando. But a commando can be a sf. Commando is more tougher and cruel.
