Amazing how you can get such art from a mandolin, an acoustic guitar and great vocals....

A native of what I call helLA, I can understand you hating a trip to SoCal... However, I moved to rural NORTHERN Cali a decade ago, and it's a whole other world! Thanks for playing this Joni Mitchell inspired acoustic Zepp tune. I really love you 2 guys!

I always thought he was the most talented in the band haha. Him and Bonham the drummer, even though he isn't in this song.

Just a beautifully written and performed song.. As simplistic as many believe this song to be, to me i can close my eyes and literally be taken on a 'Trip' with them. Poignant & Transforming, brings pleasure and gives an 'Ease' to my soul...

Yes LA can be disillusioned to new visitors (I've lived here in LA for 50 years). Still, living here is like living in the center of the universe where everything good and bad happens. Like anywhere, you can find your place of comfort and joy here if you want to look. If you're passing through, please don't stop and just keep going. :)

Beautiful song. One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. I like funky folksy Zeppelin better than rocky Zeppelin.

I think Led Zeppelin is one of the most verstile bands ever the best

LOVE THIS SONG !!! Led Zeplin is/was such a unique band !! I was lucky enough to have been able to see them when Jimmy Page and Robert Plant did a reunion tour shit it probably was like 10 or so years ago !!

Earthquakes have nothing to do with the song. It's about heartbreak, a girl cutting him loose and totally wrecking his world. Goin to California because he had to get away, he's looking for true love, a woman whom he's convinced has never been born. "Standing on a hill in a mountain of dreams, telling myself it's not as hard, hard as it seems".

No wonder you hated California. There are lots of better cities here that I think you would like. Anyway, this is a great song written by Robert about Joni Mitchell. Beautiful mandolin played by JPJ.

He was going to California & THERE WAS A WOMAN......He was 19 or 20 years old & MARRIED..with a newborn child.....BUT THEY WERE IN ENGLAND. The lyrics were inspired by the woman he met in California.. A model ( Michele Overman) While touring the U.S. in 1969.....1970

Really, the lyrics read like they could have been written by an 11th grader for English class. RP would probably agree. The vocals and instrumentation are so good it doesn't matter.

Like nearly all music lyrics then, including Lennon, Dylan etc. None of them were literature greats. Not in the slightest. Only weak voices have to concentrate more on lyrics anyway, to try and hide their lack of vocal abilities.

@@lyndoncmp5751 That’s a great comment. At their best I think Neil Young and Bob Dylan’s lyrics come across as very personal and relatable. Even though they’re technically bad singers, there’s an intimacy where I feel like they’re speaking for me. Does that make the songs great literature? No. As you said so well. Plant and Zeppelin are a different vibe, dazzling musicality.

You're not the only who hates CA.... born and raised here it used to be great but has never been worse than now esp LA... horrible place has become an over-taxed sewer...
