@Wonderhussy Adventures Wonderhussy, have you ever heard of, or been to Cerro Gordo? It's a town in the Death Valley area. There's a man there you aught to meet: Brent Underwood. He purcased the town a couple years ago with his life's savings and has been living there since. He's been rebuilding the old hotel and trying to revive and restore that historic mining town the best he can! He's doing quite nicely and you should check it out.

Have you HEARD of the "German tourists" who tried to explore Death Valley in a REGULAR car that wasn't equipped to deal with offroading? And you think it's a GOOD IDEA to head out with a vehicle that's compromised now?!? I take it you haven't listened to the news about what happened to that minisub that attempted to dive to the Titanic less than 2 weeks ago? Sarah's not going to implode but she could stuck in the middle of nowhere and that's NOT a good idea with the state of Search and Rescue. In the amount of time (hours or days) it generally takes S&R to find people, the worst can happen to people. They STILL haven't found that actor (Julian Sands) who went into the Californian mountains this past winter. It's a recovery mission now. They knew after a a month he was dead but they don't say this because a bunch of us can't accept reality. Don't go out on adventures into the wilderness when you're sick or your vehicle isn't up to snuff! You're asking for trouble when you and your ride aren't 100%!

When this shock problem came up last year, I wrote DO NOT stay with those IKON shocks. I told her, "Get a set of Bilsteins and be done with it" $1500 sounds too high unless he's replacing the springs up front as well. The shocks are about $400, the springs around $200...so he's going to bank $7-900 dollars for about 3 hours of work, tops. Let's hope he does good work. Looks like she can't haul ass because they may show up at any minute.

Other commenters are absolutely correct. Just drive on your leaking shocks with no worries for a few weeks and replace them when your parts come in. As a race car mechanic who has rebuilt shocks (for race cars when you can be adjusting shocks multiple times a day and rebuilding them regularly), high-maintenance shocks for street cars even with moderate off-roading like you do is just silly. The ICON shocks were just put on originally as a "prestige brand" profit bump option by the selling dealer to justify padding the sales price. The common Bilstein 5100 choice will 98% as good at much less cost.

I've been stuck in E. Texas for the past almost 6 years, and just starting to adjust to the slower pace of life, and total lack of social life outside of social media. I feel your pain, and having my own margarita right now as I am watching this, thinking about the good o'l daze when I used to travel and go to festivals and shows regularly, only to find myself settled down in a lake town with 1/2 an acre to mow once a week, and 2 dogs to keep me company while my man is at work. I also share your woes with your vehicle repairs, I took my van in to get the engine rebuilt back in FEBRUARY and still waiting for them to finish the job. Granted, there have been a few snags in the process, first we had to clean out the gas tank, and repair that, then they took the engine out, sent it to Dallas to have it rebuilt, brought it back at the end of April (while I was in Vegas for the first time) and said it would be done in a couple of week. One of the main guys left for another job, and the other that took his place has been in and out of the hospital with kidney problems. A couple of months later, and now they say it's mostly done, but replacing a 1985 ac system has proven to be more problematic finding parts. So that is the big stall now, hoping they can figure it out in the next few weeks, and not hit me with some massive bill, since I have paid for most of the work up front already over 6k for the rebuild. ... sheesh this ran on... so I hope you get your rig back sooner than later, wish we could share some margaritas together in person, but I doubt you will make your way to TX any time soon, and I won't be going anywhere until this van is road worthy.

Sometimes it’s good to talk it out. It helps us figure things out at times. A true friend will be there for you for that, as you are for them. I completely get the aloneness. It’s great to have allot of friends scattered here and there, and in your case online friends as well, but as a woman about your age, also “alone”, with many friends across the years, when you really need that one person who will be there for you because you are the most important person to them, and likewise, you know deeply that you are never alone. It’s a mental place that you have to experience to understand. It’s a lot of very small things often imperceptible to others who have a soft place to land, a partner who is present. When all the other doors in the world close to people who have one another in their time of need, we feel like a hungry soul looking through their windows. I find strength in my ability to be there for others, I often am, but can feel very alone. You have that strength that people take for granted, and are surprised when you share a moment of blues. Sometimes the look on the bright side comments are worse than nothing said at all. All you can do is stay on your path, and perhaps someone special will cross theirs with your’s. Nevertheless, your comment, I just want to prepare the best next chapters coming up, resonate with me, and yep, that’s the absolute best we can do for ourselves. Then let what comes in our path enrich, or pass through. I’m across the way in the Sierra waiting for a new window after a bear smashed it, just to find nothing in my car for her, lol. Can’t go anywhere til it’s fixed. 😮

To bad my Crosstrek wasn't compatable with the 4Runner as I just put Bilstein Shocks, struts, and Eibach springs on. Worked well in Moab a few weeks ago. I would have lent them to you as I am going to be down for a few months .. Crosstrek got new parts and pieces and so am I .. Friday I am having a triple bypass .. figure 2 months before I'm ready to explore again .. we shall see! 🤠

At least it hasn't been incredibly hot this year. It's been freakishly comfortable.

I'm in central Texas, it's been hells livingroom so far... 102° 40% humidity. 🔥 No let up in sight.

SJ .... Hang in there lady. I know that anxiety/Depression are very tough to handle, especially on your own. Please remember that there are THOUSANDS of people like myself, that you uplift every week. You are an important treasure.
