Marty knows tons of theory, but seems to pretend like he doesn't know anything

The reason that B note sound so nice is because in accordance to the D minor chord it acts as the Major 6th giving it a Dorian sound...Same for that Eflat he uses over the F chord...acts a Dominant Seventh giving it a Mixolydian sound...Marty always knew theory more than you realize...he didn't want to throw off a young learner by explaining modal concepts which even pros seem to struggle with. What a teacher!

i like how marty makes it seem like a natural thing to experiment and dink around, where as other guys kindra drill into your head technique and constant practice and just like artificial bullshit.. ya know? hahaha, marty is awesome.

when he breaks it down it's a real trip because he's actally thinking of playing certain notes that will only work for each chord , which anyone could do i guss , but he can actually play at fast tempos to each chord . i would love to hear him play on some thing really classic and basic like starway to heaven LOL

I’ve been playing for around 2 years now. I was stuck using tabs for my first year or so, but I started learning by ear and every concept sticks with me. I’ve improved more in the last 6 months than I have in a year.

About his right hand style,I do not think it might be a neurological issue,He`s been playing that way since He was in Hawaii project,a long time ago,in this case I just can say about a prostetic device,Kirk Hammett uses the same device to avoid feedback noises from hi amp volume,that is not a problem,is question of performance,it is used to palm mute,Marty used that maybe for a reason,elbow,hehe,,Also,He does not need someone to mute his guitar,or else We`d see two persons playing instead Marty

Why the hell B note sounds good over D minor chord its not minor 7th its not even major 7 -after some Inet search I understood that B is added maj second on D minor which is called-added second chord-B creates here tension and sounds dramatic Marty is genius!
@alfiesolomon3531
@alfiesolomon3531 4 жыл бұрын
B is actually the major 6th of the Dm chord, caracteristic sound of the dorian mode (so exotic). During the improv he is not even hitting that note : the first time he hits the major 2nd of the Dminor chord ( which is a common note in most modes except Phrygian so that's normal) then a 4th afterwards, sometimes 3m and sometimes 6... the only consistent thing here is the use of 7m on the major chords (to make it dominant). I feel that there's a lot he didn't give away in that DVD
@MsDavo123
@MsDavo123 4 жыл бұрын
Alfie Solomon yeah but still he is the only guy who tries to explain how he chooses his notes , but his explanations are quite confusing , on TOP of that there is a common belief he was stoned in this video not sure if it’s true

@@MsDavo123 My suggestion would be to learn about the CAGED system, it will map out everything for you in a very logical way ( fretboard visualisation, the connexion between scales, chords and arpeggios, it also teaches you intervals and modes). David Wallimann and Darryl Syms do a great job on their KZbin channel explaining it. Once confortable with it, all what Marty does will start to make sense.

Why Marty used NOT Edim over that Emaj chord in progression? And what tonal center was in that diminished run? Thanks
@frushhhh_
@frushhhh_ 4 жыл бұрын
A dimished chord basically doesnt have an specific "root note" that defines wich chord is it could be any of those 4 notes inside the chord, the explanation i can think of why that chord arpeggio and licks worked well over E from what i understood from the video was that in the dimished shape he used 3 out of the 4 notes of the chord were basically the same notes as playing an "E7 chord", and he used it instead of playing a typical "e dimished arpeggio" because of the exotic feel the other arpeggio and shape gives to the chord, mainly because of that note "f" on the dimished chord marty used that has nothing to do with an "E" shape.
