Not just a Wonka reaction, but also a full table? It’s a good day. I thought this movie was a wonderful little trip of whimsy and sweetness. Really felt like a true spiritual prequel to the original film.

I personally love how Wonka acts like a snake oil salesman, like, his speaks with the cadence of a con artist. But he isn’t! Everything he’s saying is true! Imagine anyone else talking about how this magical chocolate will grow your hair and give you confidence to kiss a girl, they sound like a charlatan, but Wonka actually MEANS IT!

There is no reason that even ONE of these amazing songs shouldn’t have been nominated for an Oscar! Especially “A World Of Your Own”, that song honestly rivals “Pure Imagination” for me. And “Hat Full Of Dreams” is one of those songs you’re absolutely happy to have stuck in your head.
@ptona32877 ай бұрын
Big disagree I really liked this movie but none of the songs touch pure imagination imo. Hat full of dreams is great though.

I skipped through all the songs because they all sucked. Are you serious? I was cringing watching the entire thing. How does a producer watch the first two and even the second one was absolute garbage and then watch his own version and decide that this is something that should be released? Sometimes you need to just decide a project and the end result is junk and don’t make it public. I feel bad for the people who actually went and watched this in theaters. This makes Johnny Depp’s version actually watchable…
@willow._.6 ай бұрын
@@rlciiii went into it thinking i was going to have the same opinion as you, but it won me over. sure, it’s not the greatest film ever, but it’s so joyful and unserious while also having some heart, it was a nice watch. what did you want from wonka? a thriller about a business man? it was never gonna be that, you’ve set yourself up for failure and misery

As a lifelong fan of the original I really didn’t expect to love this movie as much as I did 😂. They handled the tone and ridiculousness of Willy wonka with the kind of care and earnestness modern Hollywood seems terrified to show modern adaptation. I wish more directors leaned into the material this way because this was amazing.

I wouldn’t compare the two. Leo was given his first roles because of his looks. He learned how to become an amazing actor in the industry, but he wouldn’t have had a shot if they had not found him attractive. Timothée went to a Private Performing Arts High School in NYC, he had his first professional role booked before he left (based on his talent). Leo has also been in the industry for 2 decades longer and has only been in 8 more films than Timothée. This young man works hard to become the character he is playing. The reason he is so desired has VERY LITTLE to do with his looks, and everything to do with his talent. Example, in call me by your name the character he plays speaks English, French, Italian, and some German. He learned the languages in less than a week. His character also plays the piano classically, and breaks the songs down. While breaking them down he plays them as if he were different artists. That takes raw talent. He learned in ONE practice session. Which is insane considering he had never touched the piano before. I will just say this, If he had played Jack- he would have been the person actually drawing Rose.

So, a fun little story on how I saw Wonka and ended up liking it a lot: Late December of last year to this past January, one my family relatives and I decided to see a movie at AMC once a week for four weeks. Our third one was INTENDED to be "The Boy and the Heron," but when I booked the tickets and got to our usual AMC, the staff member at the stand scanned the QR code and said "The Boy and the Heron" stopped showing at the theater since three weeks prior, and I see that I booked it for the wrong AMC theater. That said, the staff member was generous enough to honor our ticket for any other movie that was airing at the time, and we ended up seeing "Wonka" and still saw "The Boy and the Heron" the following week. I went into "Wonka" thinking not much initially. The franchise was always fun enough growing up, but I kinda assumed Warner Bros was going for nostalgia-bait with a prequel and it would end up falling short. But no, it was funny, charming, and Timothee Chalamet continues proving his range as an actor. Imagine the whiplash for anyone not familiar with his roles, they watch him in "Wonka," then immediately watch him in "Dune 2."

This was fun. I love how it feels like a dream; like some things don’t make sense yet the world pretends they do, like floating from eating candy, or a chocolate mob, making candy that gives you ideas or gets you drunk. It’s like it’s the world through the eyes of a child. Reality through rose glasses. Really love the vibe of the world

Two recommendations for you since you watched this film: 1. Ghosts: A British comedy series about a couple who inherit a manor & after an accident one can now see the ghosts that linger in the place they died. I mention it because Mathew Baynton (Fickelgruber), Simon Farnaby (Basil the Zookeeper, plus writer of Wonka) and Charlotte Ritchie (woman who marries in the 'never had chocolate' song) all play main characters in it. Like the best UK comedies it's not only funny but incredibly emotional when it needs to be. I could not recommend it more. 2. Matilda the Musical: A year before Wonka we got the film adaptation of the stage musical based on the book Matilda (not based off the American film version). It's a fantastic film adaptation of a fantastic musical that I think is even better than Wonka, casting a highly talented lot of children who have been on stage. Sadly it got a bit overlooked, probably Netflix's doing not giving it much publicity (fortunately I saw it in the cinema three times).

I love Wonka so much! I love all the movies, Gene's sass is so funny in the first, but Charlie is the most accurate to the book. This one is just fun and sad when you realize Willy's innocence and faith in people will eventually be crushed

It's always funny to me when people say they didn't like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when that one is closer to the novel, and Gene Wilder's was it's own thing. Would love to see a reaction to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
@laperrio55627 ай бұрын
I totally agree! I get if you grew up or watched the Gene Wilder one first, but don't go hating or saying that Charlie and the chocolate factory is not good. It is closer to the novel so that's more cannon of the story, and I just think CATCF is a more mature version than Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

After watching this, I was extremely excited to show it to my girlfriend because two of the actors featured are from the British comedy troupe ‘The Six Idiots’ - Matthew Baynton and Simon Farnaby (Farnaby also co-wrote it) Those two along with the other four are responsible for the extremely popular 2000’s British kids TV show ‘Horrible Histories’, based on the book series of the same name and Charlotte Ritchie who has a small cameo in this (the woman who’s love interest eats Wonka’s chocolate to gain more confidence) played the main character in another of The Six Idiot’s show’s, BBC’s Ghost’s Those things along with the fact that Rowan Atkinson and Matt Lucas are in it gave off the feeling that it was made for her because of her love for British comedy, considering we were both born and raised here!

Bruce Willis. Dune 2 was released digitally and you watch Wonka from the standpoint of actors who have surpassed the roles of short stature are opposed to being them just because they are short however from the standpoint of those with stature issues they do need the roles to get a start unfortunately and with peter Dinklage denouncing it really did cost hundreds of actors with dwarfism careers because they can't get a start now Feel like every reaction Calvin either looks sick or tires and Rick the usual 0-0 reaction face all movie Sad that the best song wasn't in this reaction. this movie felt like a classic Disney movie to me. the villains were right out of one of the classic Disney animated greats like 101 Dalmations etc.

You HAVE to react to the Paddington films, Paddington 2 especially - one of the best and underrated films of all time! - directed by Paul King who did Wonka :)

I like the (not so) subtext of the corrupt powerful in this movie.

While Dune: Part 2 had my favorite Timmy performance, Wonka was a delightful surprise.
