I've seen this movie 3 times already and love it. I'm not even a big fan like many of the 1971 movie mostly cause I've just seen a lot of it but just bits here and there. This one to me was just very entertaining and a great spectacle. I'm okay with musicals if done right but they rhyme a lot of the lyrics and it made it was better to me. And not the Dr. Seuss way a better way where the songs complimented the story instead of the movie just showcasing songs. Great watch. 👍

I didn’t believe in this movie (even though it’s got the same director as Paddington) until the musical numbers and production design made me take notice. It seems like a fun thing to watch for the holiday season! I don’t usually make time to go to cinemas during this time (too busy), but maybe this could be a treat to myself to get me in the spirit. :) I was actually listening to the Greatest Showman songs while working today too, so you’ve got a point about that too 😅

I appreciated that Timothy Chalamet had an eerie air about him, him being naive in relying on people’s kindness but experiencing the harsh reality that not everyone is kind, was a lovely take. Can reason this is what leads him to be the secluded adult indifferent and a little dark. Vs Johnny Depps version which was just too creepy to empathise with.

This movie was soooo good. Can’t explain. Visually stunning. Great subtle hints to the original, but not in your face, and just a fun watch. Good cast as well. I had absolutely zero intention of seeing this but this review made me go today in Belgium (already playing here-). This has to be one of my favorite movies of the year, if not in my top 10 movies of all time. This took me straight back to being a kid, seeing VHS tapes in my room. This has that oldschool family movie that they just don't make as much anymore. I was smiling almost the entire time, you're right Grace; it absolutely feels like a Broadway show. The musical numbers is what take this movie from a 7 to an absolute 11. I've been feeling a bit down lately and this movie instantly made me happy again. That "sweettooth" musical number with the villains? Cheffs kiss. Go see it people😭🍫🍭🍬Now I want another prequel establishing his Wonka empire 😂

I just wanna say while we're on the topic of Wonka that Gene Wilder gave one of the most iconic performances ever in the original and no one ever really acknowledges it. People remember Heath Ledger's Joker, Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday, Marlon Brando's Godfather, but never any flowers for Wilder's Wonka- it is just my opinion but I really do think he's as good as the rest of them and I've never heard anyone anywhere in life or online mention him in the same breath as them and I think that's just a damn shame. Is it cuz it's a kids movie or a comedy? Or a comedic character or performance? Just cuz Gene Wilder made it look easy doesn't mean it was and his portrayal of Willy Wonka has stood the test of time, he's crossed generations for goodness sake, ask anyone anywhere who Willy Wonka is and they'll say Wilder every time

I'm nervous that this'll be WB's analog to The Marvels: a film that's had a horrible ad campaign, that turns out to be a great time, but doesn't succeed or find its audience or get positive reception until it goes to digital or streaming. Grace, villains always receive the best songs in musicals. Just look at all the Disney Renaissance animated musicals. Though, not surprised WB has the superior live-action musical adaptations. Part of it is they obtained the rights to superior musicals, compared to other studios, but have also hired interesting directors for them. Though, in regards to “Wonka”, the budget has always seemed like this film’s only hindrance. Especially, since it is well-known that Timothee Chalamet cannot sing. Similar to the main criticism against the film adaptation of “Sweeney Todd”. The film looked great and adapted the story well, but the cast could not sing the music.
@marcpasquinelli25489 ай бұрын
Did you end up seeing it? Timothee actually did a nice job singing. You could tell they didn't write soaring vocals in the song for that specific reason. And, to be fair, Gene Wilder was no Pavarotti, either.
