The bassist Micheal Rhodes passed away after his battle with cancer, this video shows him at the beginning of the up tempo lead section, his strumming the bass, highly unusual but captivating to a bass player from way back. This video was Howling Wolf Muddy Waters tribute show at Red Rocks in Colorado. The videos Donna has enjoyed most are from the three kings tour a tribute concert to Albert king Freddie King and of course BB King. Joe is a true blues man, he does all he can to keep the blues legends music alive through recording their music to keep it remembered and appreciated. His own music is equally impressive and deserves a dive in to as well.

Those are some of best musicians in the world today on that stage! He has had to make changes as some have left the band and new players come in. However he finds the cream of the crop. Slow Gin is a cover but it is one of the most well recognized songs of Joe's. This concert is tribute to Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters. You should watch more of it, the entire thing is out of this world! If you want to see who Joe is when NOT on stage (jeans & ball cap) but in studio killin it in a completely different style look up REDEMPTION... Unreal it could be the same person

A brilliant reaction ladies. I wonder if you have Sloe Gin in the US of A ? Here in England, people pick Sloe berries from the hedgerows in the countryside, and steep them in Gin for a year or two. This results in a sweet, rich alcoholic liqueur which is usually drunk in small liqueur glasses. LOVE JOE. LOVE THE BLUES.

Yes, we definitely have Sloe Gin in the US, but its popularity has waned over the last 30-years, or so.

DONNA: Joe structures his guitar sound to support the lyrics & meaning of the song. When he ran his hand down the fretboard in the early part of the song - that sound you reacted to - it was immediately after singing the lyrics, "May Day, May Day, been shot down over stormy seas," that sound you reacted to was the sound for being shot down in a plane plunging into the ocean. If you notice, in all his tunes, his guitar playing goes with the meaning of the song - the lyrics. It's one of the things that, in my opinion, makes Joe the greatest LIVING blues guitar player.

You three would absolutely love, anything from Eric Claptons, Crossroads festivals. Held only four years at a time, its all the artists Eric loves to listen too, heros, and influences. ...plus Eric donates the money to his drug addiction rehab centers. Amazing talent from country, blues , and jazz artists...plus Eric comes out on stage at various times through out 12 hour shows, and of course does his own set at end of festival. I suggest , the Vince Gill sets, to begin. ❤😂

A good test to check out any Muso artist.1 Do they tell an interesting story 2. Their story is different every time they play even the same thing (Improvise ) 3. The Band works as a unit and has some structure built in . 4. last of all when you leave the gig and go home can you remember anything they did from =(improvise ) Joe and the band tick all boxes. 😎

Awesome reaction ladies. It is great to see your genuine sincerity to finding music that moves your soul. If you liked Joe's version, then maybe consider checking out the original version of this song, sung by the legendary actor Tim Curry, that was released on his album "Read my Life" that was released in 1978. (just a word of warning there is some swearing on the Tim Curry version of this song, so may not be viable for you to do a video reaction for it, but it's interesting to see where Joe got some of the song queues from, and to see where he put his own spin on it). It seems the more Joe plays this live, he seems to lean more into the slower tempo of the original song, in my opinion.

No need to apologize... Solo's are nice assuming like they ever end? No matter the band. Like some the drum solo's that go on, just like lay my head down in my lap and stick the morphine needle in my neck. Way when I come around the bathroom likely be empty... Concert restrooms provide no rest and there's never enough room not to mention the who knows or what or how that's all over the place... I imagine they just blow torch them after everyone's left.

He's a great guitarist, but he still ain't SRV, and I haven't seen him play behind the back. Just imagine how much better Stevie would have been if he hadn't died at 30, he would still be playing with his keyboardist.

While this Red Rocks show was decent, it's way below the scale of Royal Albert Hall in London and Live at Beacon Theater in NYC.
