WooCommerce VS Shopify in 2023 - Which one should you use?

Security is probably the biggest issue for my business to choose Shopify. If you are going big ecommerce it's hard to justify a less secure stack. But I do like WooCommerce payment gateway flexibility for subscription

It's a very valid point, and that's why a lot of medium to large ecommerce stores make use of something like Shopify!

Hi, Unfortunately there isn't a simple answer. If you are already on a platform and are not encountering serious limitations then the answer is probably to stay on that platform and continue to develop. If you aren't on a platform, then it will depend on the factors I mention in this video, but at the end of the day there isn't a concrete answer to give - it is all dependent on your current circumstances.

Thanks! Just clarify that point, when I say cheapest and most expensive I'm talking about the base cost of the packages, so the cheaper package in terms of base cost has a higher percentage per transaction, and the more expensive package leads to a cheaper cost per transaction. I hope that helps!

Yep. Also, if you consider subscription based businesses. You will pay shopifys fee + the fee of the subscription app since Shopify doesn't offer native subscription function. Vs WooCommerce: you can use stripe for subscription which has the usual fees that U just pay once.

Hi, thanks very much! I think that the best platform out of the 2 discussed really depends on your situation. You mention you already have a supply chain ready, so if you need to start making money quickly (need to get up and running quickly) then potentially Shopify makes sense because of how streamlined it is. If you want real control over the store itself however and are looking for flexibility then Woocommerce is the way to go! It's also worth noting that whilst these two are the more popular options, they aren't the only options so definitely take the time to research and figure out what options are available, and definitely get more than just my opinion!

@@fasthosts thanks for the detailed reply most just reply with a one word answer. I guess the best thing is to just start and learn from the experience, my biggest hold up is my hesistation to commit to a starting point 😅

You'll learn more once you've given it a go, but I'd definitely say if this is your first foray into ecommerce then start small and see how it goes, and then if you do find that you need to upgrade then usually you can fairly easily no matter what platform you choose. If you find that something isn't working and you need to make changes then, by starting small you shouldn't lose out on much! Good luck to you!

URL structure on Shopify is forced and awful. Too limited in so many regards.

Shopifys plugins are very inflexible and can't do half the basic stuff you need

I did find limitations there myself, and Shopify might work for some that flexibility is an important point to consider in WooCommerce!
