My son and I are still pretty new to scouting, but right away, I knew I wanted to get involved more. I have been an assistant den leader for a while now, when I heard about Wood Badge, I knew I had to sigh up. This video makes me even more excited!

Definitely! Woodbadge for me is life changing and most special training I attended! We done Woodbadge here in Mt. Makiling, Philippines in 2011.

I agree with you. Wood Badge prompted me to post scouting videos on KZbin and eventually start this KZbin channel. 7 Knots Every Scout Should Know video was part of my Wood Badge ticket in 2005. This was the first knot tying video on KZbin 17 years ago. For the past 9 years, it's been a part of the ScouterStan Channel. YIS⚜

Great Job on this video, We are in New Zealand and our Woodbadge training held residential over a weekend. 7am -10pm for 3 days. Long days but what an experience. Come joining the world biggest Scout troop, 1st Gillewell Troop at the completion of the course is just as special as the receiving your Gillwell woggle and beads. Amazing course for adults!!! Dear Stan (the man)! My brother (as are all scouts) I just picked up on your channel today, and I've been ploughing through your vids most of the day. I instantly knew, I wanted to leave you a comment, but I didn't quite know where... Well, here I am commenting! I completed my Wodd badge training in 2016 and yes: It was life changing! I know, Wood badge isn't the same all over the world, but it holds its common ground, and boy: Do I recognize all those common aspects in your vid! I also have taken on atributes from my patrols namesake animal - in fact - I would say, it has become my totem animal! Please note, that in my neck of the world, we only use animals found on Brownsea Island. I'm an Owl - and my patrol was formed by the oldest (maybe wisest?) participants, so it made sense from the get go! As I understand it, there is a hierarcy amongst patrols in the US, but that's not the case here. I love how you bring joy and happieness to all your vids! Kindest regards from Denmark

Thank you so very much fellow Owl. Scouting is truly universal when I'm answering questions from Swedish viewers and now thanking subscribers in Denmark. Feel free to comment wherever you like, on any of the videos. If you have questions let us know here on the channel. Now a lot of this stuff only applies to the Scouting program here in the states. But it's always nice to know that it is truly universal. I thank you for stepping up and reaching out, my brother scouter. YIB⚜

My husband was an Owl (deceased 2017) and I am an Eagle. This really frustrated my son who was working on his Eagle requirements. Our family was very busy that summer when I was doing my ticket and my son was doing his Eagle project while also working at summer camp. As I write this I don't know how we made it through all this, living in khaki and green the whole summer. It would not have happened without my husband keeping everything on his calendar. You can't be involved in Scouting at this level without a calendar.

Thank you so much for all the service you have given to others over the many years. Keeping track of everything that's going on is important. There are so many that don't need to keep track because they don't do anything, especially for others. I hope you are still involved with scouting for many years to come. Thank you YIS⚜

Thank you so much for your military service. With all due respect, I believe there's a major difference between military training and scout training. Wood Badge is the highest level of scout leadership training and nothing like the training you've had before. I have talked with many military officers who have taken Wood Badge and they recommend it. Thank you so much for all you do in Scouting. YIS⚜

I told BSA wood badge was deemphasized the critters in wood badge program. Could you take a minute and explain if this is true and what was the motions for this shift. AAC 92-70 S-9-92-12-1 Eagles 🦅 “Flying High”

Good question. Originally one of the focuses of Wood Badge was on patrol spirit and identity. Within the troop environment, the patrol spirit is a critical part of the patrol method. The new Wood Badge course has been streamlined down by one whole day. Leaving very little time for patrol development. Unfortunately, the patrol spirit can get out of control with some adults taking precious minutes away from the course. Teasing, harassment, pranking, and in some cases, bullying have been known to occur. It's one thing to cheer for your own patrol, it's completely different to sabotage or taunt another. Every minute of time is tightly scheduled at Wood Badge. In most cases, participants should be unaware of how much scheduling is going on in the background. Compounding this issue of time restraints when the buffalo patrol drops all the bobweight tents on the way to the dining hall. Funny to some Scouters but totally disruptive to everyone else. Focusing less attention on the patrol spirit aspect will hopefully tone down the distractions it may cause. Patrols are encouraged to have their own meetings and focus more on the patrol method outside of the Wood Badge course time. Thank you for contributing to our discussion here on the channel. YIS⚜

@@ScouterStan Thank you for the excellent explanation. I understand, our course must have bee focused more in the program the only thing we heard was the carnivore critters saying “bob white tastes right.” But if bullying was happening that’s not a good example for any scout. It’s too bad. I believe it had it’s positive merits as used in a proper intended patrol context. I did experience the patrol games being quite demoralizing at times. Especially when the physicality of the patrols were not paired evenly. For our course the bears looked like a special forces patrol. 😉 Eagles we’re more like the bad news bears. But it developed good comradeship in our patrol after we achieved the norming phase on to the performing stage. Often when I meet a Wood Badger there are three topic of conversation, First the what was your critter, second what was your course number, third what was your ticket. Eagle, AAC 92-70, Family involvement in Scouting. 🦅😊 Thanks Stan! take care stay safe! Blessing Mark

Dave, getting into Scouting at the adult level is pretty easy. There are lots of opportunities for service within the District and Council. Depending on your Scouting experiences, jumping in and volunteering will determine where you will land. If you don't have a Scouting position with a youth unit, joining only to go to Wood Badge would be kind of difficult. After all, a big part of Wood Badge is giving back to your Scouting unit. There is a great need for unit commissioners throughout the country. This type of position is primarily for adults working with adults. Contact the Scout office service center to determine which District you are in. Get the name of the District Executive and contact them about attending a District Committee meeting. At that point, you can see where you are needed the most within the District. Looking forward to hearing what you have decided. Thank you for volunteering for a worthy cause of changing the world one Scout at a time. YIS ⚜

Interesting how you go on and on about this program, but don't really explain what is involved. Just saying it is "life changing" repeatedly doesn't really help.
