Things we learned in Wood Bat Madness 1.0: -Wood bat performance is much less about the brand name, and more about the wood species, wood density, and bat turn model. -Small wood bat companies apparently have routine access to pro-quality wood. A lot of big-names were upset by smaller brands in this tournament. -We actually are starting to prefer wood bats with slightly smaller barrels as opposed to big beefy barrels like the VG2, SG2, and CY22. By having a smaller barrel, you can use a higher-density piece cut of wood while still maintaining a reasonable swing weight. -Birch wood performance is allll over the place. The winning bat in the tournament was Birch, but also some of our least favorite bats in the tournament were Birch. In our opinion, Birch is unmatched as long as it has been pre-compressed by a machine or roller. -When swinging wood bats, you really begin to understand how much the handle/knob setup influences a bat's performance and how a player swings that bat. We preferred thinner handles with a smooth gradual taper. -Hitting with real wood is very expensive lol. Especially with a lighter-swinging wood bat, you're gonna burn through a lot of $$ with broken bats.

I love how my wood bat is non rolled/pressed birch but I have hit a lot with it so it’s broken in and it’s just bumpy. Like small little bumps. Great bat I absolutely love it.

In 2013 , i bought a USED Chandler wood bat that was from the Beach League in Myrtle Beach (im in mass) . Absolute BEST bat i have ever owned. Lasted me three years before i sold it to someone. This thing just would not break!!! It was a CB26 model , and when i look at the prices today im like damn i got a good deal (only paid like 60 bucks for it)

For someone who has swung both they r both great options. Chandler bats have a really unique feel and a nice crisp sounds they feel like they got a lot of pop. The ra13 from slugger definitely feels dense and u can tell it’s a hard ass bat. I’d say the chandler is definitely with the extra 59 tho. Uncupped helps a ton w miss hits on the end I think it feels/performs better
