You make it looks so easy! I cannot for the life of me make clean lines. It’s like my wood burner is getting stuck in the grain of the wood

Hi! If the wood burner seems like it's getting stuck in the grain of the wood, it could be caused by a couple things: 1. Use lighter pressure. If you press down too hard, the point of the burner will sink down into the wood and the grain can interfere with those smooth lines. Try to burn with heat, and not pressure. 2. They type of wood you're using. If you burn on a piece of wood that has a heavy grain, such as pine, then it can be more difficult to burn clean lines. I'm using basswood in this project and you can find some of my favorite types of wood on my Amazon affiliate store: www.amazon.com/shop/woodburninguniversity/list/32U66CZ5M81S6?tag=onamzminisaro-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d 3. End cut pieces of wood burn more challenging that face cut pieces. If you are burning on a piece of wood where you can see the circular grain, that is more difficult to burn even lines than on a piece where you don't see the grain. 4. Too high of heat. If you're burning with a wire tip burner, which can burn extremely hot, and you use too high of a temp, the point can easily sink into the wood and be affected by the grain. I hope this helps! :) -Minisa Robinson, Creator of Wood Burning University

I have a question! It feels like my pen isn't consistent over the wood, like on some areas it burns beautifully but on others it doesn't. So when I drag the pen across the board of wood like a highlighter mark it's really inconsistent, kind of it's running out of "ink".. is that an issue with the pen or am I doing something wrong? Thank you 💓

What a lovely piece of dapper cat art! So is making the lighter burn color vs darker just a matter of pressure applied and time on the area to burn?

I use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool for most of my work. You can find that tool at www.walnuthollow.com. Feel free to use my discount code MINISA15 for 15% off your order through Walnut Hollow. I hope this helps! (PS, I may get a small commission if you use the code, but I greatly appreciate your support! Thanks!)

Hi! I am burning on basswood. It's my favorite type of wood because it is light in color, has minimal grain and no sap. It's great for creating smooth burnings and realistic art. You can find it sometimes at craft stores like Michaels and JoAnns. Walmart usually only sells pine which is difficult to burn on. I get my basswood from Walnut Hollow.com. They are a great family-owned craft store. I hope this helps! (If you want to buy from Walnut Hollow, I'm a partner and you can use my discount code if you want. MINISA15 gets you 15% off your total order. If you use the code, I get a little compensation that helps keep the lights on.) I hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions! Have a great evening! -Minisa, founder of Wood Burning University

Do you use any gloves for handling the pen?

Yes, I do wear a simple pair of gardening gloves. This helps protect against accidental burns.

What temperature do you use? Mine isn't adjustable and set to 900 degrees, is that too hot?
@WoodBurningUniversity
@WoodBurningUniversity 21 күн бұрын
I use the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa-Tool and it can reach temperatures up to 950 degrees F. Using a lower temperature is helpful for more control while wood burning. I hope this helps!

Your only supposed to use the tip of that shader?
@WoodBurningUniversity
@WoodBurningUniversity 9 ай бұрын
For line work, I use the upper part of the shading point. When blocking in large areas of solid black, I'll lay the shading point flat on the wood and use the whole area. I hope this helps!

Hi! When wood burning with a soldering-iron type of tool like this one, the artform is very safe. I strongly recommend that you do NOT attempt the fractal wood burning, where people use a dangerous amount of electricity to create the burned pattern. That type of wood burning artwork is definitely dangerous! Stay safe!
