Michele, Is it OK to woodburn on cedar? Thank you.
@KlingsporsWoodworkingShop2 жыл бұрын
It is okay to burn on cedar. However, some people find the fumes are an irritant to their lungs. Even if they don’t have an issue with it, the other people in the house may find it irritating. You can use a carbon-activated filter fan to reduce the fumes in the air. The other thing to consider with cedar is that burning on the outer sapwood, which is a light color, shows up well but burning on the red heartwood is hard to see. As the wood ages, the red heartwood will get darker. In addition, the heartwood will darken when you add a clear finish to the piece. Both will make it hard to see your burning. You can burn the image darker than usual to keep it visible. Also, do not use lacquer as a finish because it will deepen the heartwood to a dark red/black color. I recommend using polyurethane or polyacrylic as a finish.

One of the best intro to techniques videos I have ever seen. And the link to the rotating table was a jewel to find. I ordered one today. Can't wait to try it. Thank you. Update: I received my rotating table in Dec 2020 and find it to be a great tool; especially since it allows you to adjust the angle of the project should you need to burn at a different angle, and rotating the project is easy to do, using the accompanying wedge to keep the turntable in one place.

I've been doing many crafts in the past and I got into ''torch paste'' which I really enjoyed tho I have ''entertained the idea of ''wood burning''. Well,my three son's have so much confidence in me and they invested a ''wood burning tool kit'' as a Christmas gift. They are such wonderful people and they want me to pursue in ''wood burning'' as it is more of an ''art'' than a ''craft'' in my opinion. A question we all had was ''can you go over your ''torch paste'' heat gun burnt image and give it more of the ''wood burning" effect(tho I thought it might give off fumes from the torch paste). I hope this question makes sense. Thank you and I've learned alot from your video.

One comment on the commercial about Lomi, which I know you have no control over. I'm just making a comment for everyone on this product - they claim "stop food waste." I struggled with this for years. Today I tried something new... place the tape in your microwave for 10 seconds, the try to find the edge, use your finger nail or a very sharp pairing knife to start edge.. If it still sticks, place in microwave (on high) for another 10 seconds. Repeat process as many times as needed. This worked for me on masking, packing, and the blue painters tape. Good luck!

Michele, how can I burn the condensation that we see as we breath or speak in cold air? Any help you could offer with this would be greatly appreciated! Also, I’d like to compliment you on your videos - they’re so informative and full of excellent, useful and practical tips! Thank you!
@KlingsporsWoodworkingShop Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind compliment, Elaine. In order for the breath condensation to be seen, you’ll need to have a background burned behind where the breath will be rendered so that the lighter breath will show up. I would render breath condensation in one of these two ways: Option 1. I would burn the background where the breath will go first. Then I would use sandpaper (around 220/320 grit) to remove the burn in varying degrees of light and dark, working in small circles. You’ll need to make some of the “mist” lighter and darker to make it believable. Attached is a reference picture to show you an example. Note that the breath is very light when it comes out of her mouth. If it’s too strong, it will look like she is exhaling cigarette smoke. Option 2. I would burn the background only around the area where the mist will go. Then I would use my shader in a small circular motion to blend the background into the mist. You’ll need to shade in light and darker tones in the mist to mimic the breath in the photo. Please let me know if you need more clarification. Thanks, Michele
