See how easy it is to engrave or carve just about anything. This demonstration is on how to carve a leaf pattern onto a wooden coin using power carving, high speed engraving equipment. We simply copy our pattern onto mylar stencil film, place the pattern onto the surface of our engraving project, then trace the lines right through the pattern paper. With high speed, power carving equipment, you won't even know the stencil film is there, See how you can engrave or carve almost any surface - by Profitable Hobbies.

You can carve with a dremel but the maximum speed is about 1/10th of the tool used in the video. I've only just got mine so I haven't used it for a lot of picture engraving yet.

Is the rotary tool that you are using faster than a dremel or about the same? I know the history of the dremel but is a dremel tool now a days just as fast as the one you are using? Your rotary tool sounds like it has a faster rpm.

Lovely. I am just attempting to learn this. Want to make a walking stick for my grandson and want to write his name and a few other things, like decorations, on the cane. I have a Dremel. I see that this is not a Dremel. Will the Dremel work. As a senior, my income is limited and do not think I can afford to purchase more tools. Thanks for this though. Best I have seen.

anywhere from 40-90 dollars depending on how many bits and accessories come with it. if you want a cordless one it will be 28-100 dollars depending on the bits and voltage. you can buy them at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, and pretty much anywhere else that sells drills and tools.

Great video (IMO), makes it look easy enough that even in my mechanically dis-inclined state . . . I could do it. One question, can you give a brand/type of the film? "Mylar stencil film" that is both printable and self adhesive . . . can't quite find any. (I've found adhesive and too thick, or non-adhesive and just right.) Or do you just print, then wet the back and it self adheres? Either way, thanks for the video.

WOW! I love how you brought that 3D image out of the wood surface. Great lines depicting leave texture and exceptional shaping of wood to indicate shadows. I would like to carve in this fashion, have a Dremel 300 but have not actually started yet; your video helps a lot as far as how to approach the wood shaping process. I do draw a lot and think it was pure visual poetry to see how your "lines" cutting into the wood, created this great little image! Thanks for this instructional info!

Seguramente sea una dremel, y lo que usa es un accesorio llamado eje flexible, que se conecta a la dremel y transmite la fuerza a una especie de "lápiz" con el que poder trabajar con este tipo de trabajos que requieren mucha precisión.

It's an air driven tool. It's not a dremel. Air tools turn about 10 times faster than the highest speed electric tools. The one in this video is a Turbo 300, another one is the NSK Presto.

I know someone who does not like dental drills. They don't bother me but who can blame him? I am such a nice person I told him the interesting fact that these drills can run up to 400,000 RPM. There are some people who don't realize that but the fact is they run so fast for smooth cutting and minimal discomfort while the nice dentist takes his good old time slowly drilling down in there during a root canal treatment. I am not a dentist, I just like facts such as these.

This is by far the "best" and retails at $575 US. Our "kits" include the drill at a discount. I don't think we have anything in your country. Could you "distribute" over there for us...? @DrLewJensen
@DrLewJensen 10 жыл бұрын
Sam... go to ProfitableHobbies.com/store. They have it there. It is hard to find - and it needs to be "adhesive" on one side and photocopier sensitive on the other. This "pattern film" changed everything for me. I am a better artist now - but this sure helped me get started. The "speed" of our hand piece - and the stencil film are a magic combination. Plus we now have a lot of "videos" to show you how to use it. We have come a long way in 30 years, but most people still do not know anything about us.

@DrLewJensen
@DrLewJensen 10 жыл бұрын
Sorry so slow at getting back to you. I am the dentist who started all the "straight" designed high-speed drills. There are three models done long before the Ney hand pieces and this one is the "300" - not the hurricane. The "lab" business does love my design, but there are a gazillion "other" terrific uses for the high-speed tool. Check out my "other" video that is also posted here by Russ Larson. You might like these two new clips that present "more" of what my whole new world is all about. Come back - if anything interests you. @DrLewJensen
@DrLewJensen 10 жыл бұрын
I thought I got to this question - but maybe it was for someone else. It is a vinyl Mylar and the thickness is only .003 inch which makes it work so well for two reasons. One - it can go through a photocopier and reproduce your pattern for you. Then it has an adhesive backing so it will "stick" right to your projects. Since it is so thin... it allows you to trace the design right onto anything - it works so well. Profitable Hobbies carries the film at www.profitablehobbiesstore.com Or you can call Tam at 800-624-7415. It is hard to find.
