I hunt wood duck ponds a lot and know how to do it well. Use just a few decoys, about 6, and forget motion, it doesn’t matter and they seem a little shy around it. Be patient, let the birds land and they’ll swim in to the decoys. Just sit tight till they swim in close. Embrace the water swat, you’ll preserve that precious meat

when I hunt woodys we sometimes don’t even put out decoys or if we do it’s like pair or 3 but usually we just whatch where they like to land and it works about 80 percent of the time

Man im from Arkansas and we have woodducks all the type and its almost impossible to get the to decoy it's more like a hope and pray.

We have a timber pond in Iowa that fills up with hundreds of woodies every year. It is the most chaotic hunt ever, but super fun. 5 man limit in 2 minutes and almost all shot on the water

Seen a few posts already saying this, but half dozen decoys, no motion, no calls. Works the best for me and they will decoy. Wood ducks are jumpy and scare off easy.

Less is more im in ky we get a ton of just woodie shoots we will run 1 or 2 floaters and a spinning wing and have them decoy the majority of the time we never call at them

Use wood duck decoys and call. Get your jerk string out and jerk the living hell out of it. Last but not least be where they want to be. They are a shy snobby duck, they don't usually land out in the open water. They stay closer to brush and don't get out in the open much. They love filberts though.

Woodies will ultimately do what they want when they want. If you are where they want to be then it's money. Separate your decoys. Woodies and mallards stay apart and they will commit more to the Woodies.

As a person who has mainly hunted wood ducks for my entire life I would break your spred down to no more than 4 decoys. Since they want to be in that area it looks weird to them to see a big group of ducks in their spot. No need for the motion decoys. Kick your foot in the water every so often. Wood ducks are very finicky but they will decoy they just typically don't like big spreads.
