Every other year the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) organise a grand Wood Fair at the picturesque Larmer Tree Gardens, Tollard Royal, Wiltshire. John and Sue Holman visited this year's event over the weekend of the 8th and 9th October. Organiser David Blake, Project Development Officer for the AONB, explained that it was a celebration of the history, culture and work of the area but also an opportunity to think about the inevitable changes the future will bring and the importance to manage these changes to preserve the its nature. Laura Banyard of Southern Wood Energy talked to them about the new machinery that was being used to make coppicing profitable once more. The Norman inhabitants of the Cranborne Change at around the time of the Domesday Book were also there in numbers, proudly demonstrating their lifestyle.
