Great video. I've never seen such nice pickets before. The ones I always see are rough cut at best.

Love your work, Dan! Can you do something similar on vinyl fences? As a handyman service getting calls to repair vinyl, we run into all styles. How do we identify the different styles? How do we improvise when we run into out-of-production types?

Show some with lattice please! I need some inspiration. Thanks for this video though. I’ve wanted to do trim and cap for when I build mine but was concerned it would cost too much. As I watched this, it came to me that i could build it standard and then add trim and cap in a later year.

How do you guys do a rot board with postmasters? Especially if it’s neighboring.
@HomeOfMacWoeffie8 күн бұрын
I made my fence horizontally but overlapped the pickets about 4 cm should be enough for the shrinking with on the underside of each picket a gap of about 2 cm ...why because we live in a house on a corner with quite a big garden...and yup we have strong winds here too so the thought behind it was, if I close the fence completely the wind can push to hard on the fence and make wiggly or even brake the posts now the gaps let the wind thru so it can puch as hard...and yes sadly we didn't or haven't got the posts you us so far as I know...first thing I did was painting it with stain and left it on to dry didn't wipe it of and I have a dark brown fence with the cheapest stain I could find and it doesn't rot... and for some decorative poles I used spruce wood not treated. There I used the most expensive wood paint I could find and yup after over 20 not one was rotten.... Sometimes you use cheap materials because my wallet isn't that full ;)

Thank you for your time and effort in making this video and helping us decide on what style fence we can create. I personally love the trimmed out horizontal fence. Definitely feel the added expense is worth it. I also would like to know how to get the metal fence post locally or from SWI?
@SWiFence7 күн бұрын
Try your local big-box hardware stores first. If you can't source them locally we do sell them, but the cost of shipping steel across the country (here and out again) does add up.

@@elmermtI pay $28 for 8’ post master plus post and like $35 for 10’ post master plus. These are trident post (their version of a post master post) and they’re quite a bit more expensive. Just buy local

i recently saw a video from the UK where someone built a fence with 6 ft dogear boards, mounted vertically, but they overlapped them by about an inch like shingles. That too took away the gaps, but I would assume losing 1 inch on every board will increase material cost quite a bit because for every 6 boards you lose one board width on the overlaps.

@@SWiFence .. why not make it a series? Collect more ideas and then bring us part 2 with more designs? I have seen fence designs with wood framed roofing metal panels inserted, chain link fence trimmed out with wood etc. There are tons of creative fence ideas and I think it would be cool to have an expert lay out how to go about it step by step just like you did in this video.

True board on board seems crazy in our neck of the woods, i doubt the post manufacturer would hold up the wind warranty unless im mistaken (yes i jave seen the fan boat video😂)

What about building a fence with brad nails and adhesive? Saw it on Reno TV so it must be real
@SWiFence7 күн бұрын
I wouldn't. 😏

I thought the third one was to let some wind through so it doesn't need to fight as much against it
@SWiFence7 күн бұрын
It does help a little, but not as much as you would think. Chain link fences can still blow over with enough wind.
