You've either made some folks comfortable during an event, that is the very least, probably will save someone's life. I know that when I get mine running, you've helped me meet a major goal!. God bless and happy new year!

Three hours of run time on my 6k genny using twigs would be a fabulous,empowering gift. I look forward to you posting the details on the build.

I don't know about making this place a better place to live but at least I may be able to make building a Gasifier easier for some people. Thanks for the reply and happy new year.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I built all of this stuff years ago unfortunately for what I'm seeing happening today.

I don't remember if I replied back to you or not but I didn't sit down and draw up actual drawings for the gasifier but I did the next best thing. Check out my last 4 videos. These are "how to" videos and it covers the build in detail. Let me know if this helps you. Thanks, Flash

Thanks Dan. I was just not sure because I have been told that a blue flame is the indicator of a very clean burn. My next unit will also be a imbert but I am only looking to run a 6.5 Hp up to a 12.5 Hp engine so my reduction zone goes down to 4 inches and I am using 5 1/4 inch air nozzles and the design I did will allow me to modify it with ease if needed. I am chomping at the bit to construct it. I already have the bulk of parts so now it just comes down to some free time.

another awesome video n a great result for the new year i havent read the comments yet as i want to get to the next video again thanks from your Aussie mate Mick

That was a good observation but the gas is actually damp with humidity and the pipes in the filter are clean. The key to clean gas is cooling it down so that the filter medium can do it's job. I'm working on a HV electrostatic filter now.

Thanks. This is a workaround for a tar burner. I enjoyed the challenge and I am still tweaking it.

Well keep it up. You are doing a great job. Really enjoyed the video

Im going to try and make a very small version of this system and maybe upload a video of it, your design seems very effective!
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
That's the next video. Unfortunately the FEMA design is a tar bomb but this filter may be a good little work around until I build the new system plus it would be a good fix for others that invested time into the FEMA design too.
@flash001USA11 жыл бұрын
you are talking about a Venturi Scrubber. I have never tried to construct one because it would require a pump and a small water reservoir. This was a simpler build for me at the time plus they can handle long run times with low back resistance. Even the Venturi Scrubber won't strip the tar from the gas if you are running a FEMA gasifier but it is great for Imbert gasifiers because it will remove soot and ash. Tar is a strange animal.
@flash001USA11 жыл бұрын
That's a horse of a different breed and that get's involved but it can be done. There are others out there that discuss this but you just have to look around for the information. I know someone that uses 5 tractor inner-tubes that he fills up with gas then he lays a sheet of plywood on top of the inner-tubes. He places weights on the wood that places pressure on the inner-tubes and they are piped into his house where he cooks with it.

Thanks. I have improved the filter since this video.

It did pretty good. It captured a lot of goo. I am thinking of trying out the plastic scrub pads because the polyester worked so good that it wasn't funny.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
Attic insulation was a serious thought but I think the polyester fiber was the winner here! Did you see the video I just released with all of the filter stuff laid out?
@jj01a12 жыл бұрын
Outstanding work Bra! Please do a vid on adding the small pipe inserts with a torch. Any thoughts on using attic insulation? I hate the idea of filling my genny with tar and having to do a rebuild.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
Yo James what's up? I guess I'll see you at work tomorrow. I will continue to use paper towels because they work and they are cheap.
@flash001USA11 жыл бұрын
To be honest I do not know but I can tell you this. I have ran the filters hard in 4 hour test burns and they breathe very easy plus as they warm up they get better. If these are used on a Imbert gasifier that is cracking the tar I would imagine they could run for 40 or 50 hours between cleanings. With a tar producer like the FEMA, maybe 10 to 16 hours total runtime. The new gasifier build will rule straight from hell so stay tuned.
@TecKnowFreak12 жыл бұрын
I like that you took the the upright filters i find them more compact also as in yr vid showed that it needs to warm up thats why i said to hold in some heat in the upright filters and keep them close to the burner they warm up fast and make great gas fast i love that you took and tried a diff kind of filter the polyester fiber how did it wash up for getting clean just think too like i said if you put say 6 upright near the burner chamber how compact it really can be.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
That's my next video. The FEMA Gasifier is still a tar burner no matter what you do to it but this filter design may make it acceptable in an emergency. I'm building a system that can crack tar and this filter system should be great counterpart to it plus it should be able made much smaller for that design too.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
No it's not! This is a FEMA design and I built this before I understood that the FEMA setup was a "BIG" tar generator! My new system will be the one with air jets along with a sealed fuel hopper. That setup should rule the roost!
@flash001USA11 жыл бұрын
seanspies when you build it let me know how it turns out. This is an old video and I have actually built an Imbert system since this video. Check out video 18 that I just uploaded a week ago. I actually have a generator up and running plus I have fine tuned the filters too.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
One more thing. I see a lot of gasifiers putting out an orange flame and I do have some confusion on what is considered clean. My FEMA is a tar machine and I should rent it out to the state to pave the highways with. After my last mods I am able to get a perfect blue flame now. This video was close but the last one was right on. I am assuming that you built the imbert design and that you are measuring the temps for the tar cracking temp?
@TecKnowFreak12 жыл бұрын
Is your next vid going to show what yr filters looked like after that 4-1/2 hr run i am curious as to how the polyester looks i have not as of yet tried anything like that i thought it might gum up fast so i am really curious as to how it did over all that stuff is cheap and has a ton of surface area. I also wonder how it would be to wash up and reuse let me know when u get to it all thanks. Great run by the looks nice great job!
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
Have you tried placing a white cloth over your filtered output to see if anything was passing through?
@lefteris10011 жыл бұрын
hello sir, you are to be congratulated on this excellent project, i am currently converting my generators to work with lpg but your project is better. i have a question, if i have understood correctly the filters are to cool and then clean the gas from impurities. if this is so then why do you not use a water trap filter instead. it would be easier and much better. thank's again for these excellent videos.

There are some other people that have built the rocket stoves and they say a little bit of wood goes a long way.
@TecKnowFreak12 жыл бұрын
I am also curious as to how the steel wool did that far away from the heat my only test have has it close to my burner where it heats up i also like how you use pvc pipe i have never used it due to how i make mine but i just might give it a try be cheaper to build with but then again free metal is what mostly i build with.
@TecKnowFreak12 жыл бұрын
good gas faster they would give a cleaner gas in just min due to the way i hold some heat threw the first few then let it cool off in the next few to catch water but thats just me with my metal work lol i like the idea of pvc cheap and easy to fix on my setup i have it come out of my burner into my uprights just a thought how long til you get the clean up vid up i am wanting to see it!
@bullitridden12 жыл бұрын
whachoo gonna eventually/ finally use as filter guts instead of paper towels on the fourth filter?
@TecKnowFreak12 жыл бұрын
Could you wash out the polyester my thought is like if you put in say 6 upright filters the last being like polyester to act like sawdust my only wonder is could u clean it or not i have used a pad that i found for under carpet but i had very mixed results one that has worked good is the green like scrub pads you can get at wally world cut to just fit the pipe and the can be washed real easy too but dont have resistance on pulling gas threw if you had not pvc but metal pipe yr system would make

I just do a hot water clean when the unit is still warm or in the last few minutes of shutting down what have you found i love it when you try stuff that i have not thought of so what have you got to clean with?

Thanks so much for all these wonderful videos! I hope to build one of my own soon. Have you tried an oil bath filter? They work great for stationary equipment, and I wonder if it may filter without the need for a warmup period to moisturize the filters.

Can do! Today I built a rocket stove and it works like nothing I've seen that uses wood.

Thanks man. Really appreciate your videos. What fan is that that you're using here?
@flash001USA3 жыл бұрын
This was some cheap inline fan but you don't want to use anything with an internal motor that's in the path of the gas. You will need a small squirrel cage type of motor where the motor is mounted on the outside of the blower enclosure.

so the 5ft tall tubes how short have you brought it down?
@flash001USA9 жыл бұрын
+thomasheisler I did a few things and simplified the build. I went to 6 inch diameter tubes and they stand 4 ft in height along with being in a straight line. Check out the later videos and you will see what I did different. The new filter system breathes much easier too.

alright

The reason why your filters produced that natural gas blue flame after 30 minutes into the burn is because your burn pot (as I call it) reached the optimum temperature (an inferno) To confirm this you should insert a stem thermometer into the burn chamber and verify this explanation.
@flash001USA12 жыл бұрын
Dan I went and subscribed to your channel too. Nice job on your build also! I am still experimenting with filtering techniques. If you get a chance, check out my last video. I had a textbook burn to the point that there was not nothing coming from the filtered output when the flame was put out. As far as Tecknofreak goes, he has been a great help with his ideas. We have passed many emails back and fourth on this topic over the last week.
