Yes, thank God there are people in the world who understand us, Helen! I think my friends all think I’m a nut. I’ve been collecting pens and pencils since I was 5 but now, at 58, I’ve been collecting wood-case pencils almost exclusively. And having a great time.

Out of all the channels that talk about journaling and handwriting tools, this is by far the most genuine and beautiful to watch. I found this channel long after TJ stopped posting. After a year of watching the content over and over, I finally started writing. But not with pencil. Shameful, I know, but I started. About a month ago I sharpened a pencil because I didn’t have a pen around… and something inside me clicked. I loved everything about the experience! For so long I watched these videos because I just enjoyed how much TJ enjoyed his passion. But I always thought pencils were too impractical and juvenile for my needs. TJ’s work infected me in all the right ways. Yesterday I purchased my first set of Blackwing 602s, a Rotring 800, and a one step sharpener. TJ, thank you for putting your passion out there. You have inspired me to slow down and enjoy this simple practice. I appreciate you, as well as this channel. I hope to see another video at some point! May life treat you well. God bless.

I hear y'all there and also sorry to see the channel end, but I'm also looking into it optimistically as well, as the channel ending does have it's somewhat good news: he's getting married and getting into a new chapter in his life, as well as us (definitely curious to check out the Erasable Podcast that he recommended).

Hey, TJ. It's now been two years since I started keeping a journal, which has helped me turn so many aspects of my life around with internal stocktaking and getting my ideas out on to the page. I'm still a fountain pen user for that, but I use a pencil for my workbook (and I even bought Apsara long-point sharpeners on your recommendation). (The pencil is currently the free one that Nero's Notes send you with every order - I'd bought a couple of packs of National Parks Edition Field Notes.) In these two years, I have used a few Darkstar Black notebooks (RIP), a SpaceX Edition Back Pocket (nice, but not much space in a cross-grid), and a few Silvines for EDC (which I write in with a gorgeous Kaweco Sport pocket fountain pen). Keeping a journal this long was something I would never have envisioned for myself as late as two years ago, so for me it's truly a cause for celebration (I'm going to go out for a big slap-up meal as a treat to myself). I have learned many things and picked up many tools in my "personal rebuild", but your work and passion have given me something that is now a cornerstone of it. Once again, thank you.

AAARGH, too bloody late yet again! I came here because of that gorgeous video on the Hovel Pencil Plane - came up as part of their advert in my FB feed. Apologies for the long post, but there are layers to my sadness and joy regarding this. I'm probably not likely to be specifically a pencil-and-paper enthusiast, but what's drawn me in is the sheer love for analogue. You've presented it in such a way, with such joy for something so simple as writing on paper, that it's inspired me to do the same. This brings me to the next layer: I have a problem with keeping focus, and am very absent-minded. For years, decades even, I have tried various systems, including keeping notes in notebooks - and the biggest problem with that is remembering to take the notes in the first place. I felt like I was fighting an enemy I couldn't see. But having discovered this channel, and the enthusiasm and inspiration contained (or, rather, uncontained) therein, it's given me the insight to try taking analogue notes again; instead of viewing it as a necessary drudgery for the purpose of keeping me on an even keel, I can now approach it with similar joy, looking forward to each time I open a notebook to write something in it. It amazes me how little attention I paid to such things; there's something almost Zen about it, I think. In essence, you've done two important things for me, a stranger, with this channel: you've helped me find a potential new way to manage (I say "potential" because I've learned not to be hasty - I'm such a magpie, there's a chance I might be distracted by the next shiny thing), and you've opened up a whole new-yet-not-new sphere of life that my distraction-addled, sensualist mind can immerse itself in. What a useful and enjoyable channel. I'm taking my time with the videos, because I want to make sure there are still new ones left to watch for a while. Sincerely, thank you.

1:36 _”...the production values were not where I wanted them to be...”_ Hmm. The high PV were one of the really cool things about your work. To the extent that, your PV were indeed high by most YT standards, for you they still weren’t high enough, you are even familiar with the term _“production values”_ suggested to me that in your day job, you may be involved, at some level, in some kind of pro-level film/video making? I’d have suggested that maybe lowering your standards might have made your life easier, but as one similarly afflicted by attention to detail (albeit in a strictly amateur context), I know such advice, while well meant, would fall on ears unable to hear, or at least on someone unable to commit such a sin. :-) Thanks for it all anyway. P.S. Podcast, 90 minutes - oof.

I'm new here. I just found your channel by accident not long ago. The few videos I've seen of yours showed your passion and knowledge of pencils. Fountion Pens are my thing. But any writing instrument that helps you get the job done is good. Congratulations on the engagement and wedding, Its an adventure, hopefully, you'll be on for decades to come. As for you shutting the channel down. I do understand. Life changes, stuff happens. Sometimes in spite of the best intentions and the desire to do something It doesn't happen. Running a YT channel and putting out content on a regular basis is far more work then people realize. I do a monthly newsletter for my writing, and even that had fallen by the way for a long time. This year, I am committing to doing it every month, and so far I've kept it up. But that's far different than doing a video or two every week on end for a long time. In the end, You do what you need to do. If stopping the channel is what you need to, to survive and keep your sanity, The you do that. Hopefully, at some point, you'll be in a position, to take it up again. If not That's ok too. Leaving your content up so folks can continue to learn from and enjoy is good and who knows it may lead others to find pencils, and paper, and notebooks.

Didn't know this channel existed until I googled around for Hagoromo Chalk. There's something talented here, keep it up! Err, I mean start again! Something immaculately clear and relatable about the reviews. Eat the apple of sponsorship and do some totally rad pencil reviews. Rebelliously subscribing.
