First, I’d like to thank you for reading this. I am new to wood turning, so please DO NOT do as I do. This is NOT a teaching video. Maybe you can pickup a thing or two from my mistakes. Working with tools of any kind is dangerous and must be handled at your own risk.
I am documenting my journey into wood turning and the wood working field. It has always been a passion of mine to work with video. Wood turning is a new hobby, which I find enjoyable and rewarding. It is my intentions to produce a weekly video, which I hope is entertaining.
I have no sponsorship, endorsements or affiliations.
Current equipment:
- WEN model 3420t 8x12 wood lathe
- Bionic Face Shield
- Starter Chisel set for wood turning
- 3M respirator
In this video:
I unpack the lathe, tools, etc for first look and give it a turn. This is also the first video where the name of the channel was discovered. Once I had a video and a name, I sought to create a logo to give the channel a little more polish. Fiverr.com is a great place to find the help you need.
Vibration Test: Looking to see how much the tools will deviate while scraping the wood on turning. More vibration the less accurate the cuts.
Not the best or proper way to use the tools, in the testing of the lathe. Later I found out things like the scraper is better for end grain and such.

I am going to assume that a lack of a way to fasten it down is a safety feature. If you get a bad catch the lathe will move rather than everything coming at you, or at least some of the force will go the other direction! I think I could have made a one direction joke there! That had to come from the backwoods of China using flatheads still, must not have got the memo!

Two things.... I later found there are threaded holes for securing through a table. The flatheads! LOL the thing comes with allen wrenches, but there are no allen screws!

I was told you could not really turn soft woods
@movingchips
@movingchips 2 жыл бұрын
You can.... but it's not ideal. Specifically pine from Home Depot, Lowes or wherever will be super wet. If you can find an old pine 4x4x? and its dry, you can turn it. I think you can turn balsa wood if you really tried. LOL Hardwoods are best. Although I would argue super hardwoods are more difficult to turn.
