I witnessed a beautiful metaphor recently. Feral pigeons are common in town and all look in bad condition, scratching around for scraps from humans. Right next to this was a big fat woodie gorging on Ivy berries. Lesson: If you work hard and have the knowledge you can find what you want I this world. If you expect it handed to you then you will always struggle.

As far as I’ve heard ducks and other birds have everything you said but they can’t focus as precisely as a human, and they also recognize patterns more which is why Sitka created its patterns according to that. Great vid

I remember my Father telling me that. "You should never wash your shooting clothes with DAZ or any of the whiter than white detergents. As you would end up looking like a blue glowing bush to a Pigeon". He washed all his shooting gear in the river Usk, that ran through the estate with an old bar of laundry soap. I always thought he was a little crazy, but now it makes sense.

Great work as usual! In South Africa where I shoot the related Rock Pigeon, I've found that hiding in a shadow facing their flight path seems to work. On my most recent shoot, I sat on the door sill of my vehicle under the shade it cast over my head and was stunned at how many only saw me as I stood to shoot.

For several month back I following your video and I really love them. Mostly because what you are talking about stands here in Hungary as well (hunting - sporting rifles themes). I also love to learn about game animals, I hope you will introduce all of the game birds and mammals you can hunt in the UK. I especially curious about the non-native species, the "posh pigeon" (ring-necked parakeet) and grey squirrel (their habits and how to hunt them). And maybe that would be some fun to make cooking cooperation videos with some good English chef. Parakeet pie or something. :)

As an air rifle Woodie hunter it's their vision that amazes me. I have a theory that their tiny heads help them to process it quicker. The distance between their eyes and their brains is very short. Last day before lock down I found the trees they sit in between meals... they were coming in in huge flights and sitting for 10 minutes before going back out to eat drillings. Can't wait to get out again. Not sure why you had the footage of ferals being hand fed but hey-ho. Good to see you being all enthusiastic - Know your enemy!!

Very good Jonny, the Europeans study the migratory habits they have teams of people doing counts through passes in the Pyrenees as well as shooters up there. I have shot migrating Pigeons from High towers in France (Chasse a la palombe) with a traditional system of live decoys put in the tree canopy with a pulley system that you can control from your hide also in the tree canopy,an utterly amazing experience and one I hope to do a few more times before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

I agree pigeons are amazing They can definitely see shot and they can definitely see airgun pellets , they can avoid sub 12ftlb speeds but not quite FAC speeds but they still see the pellet and try moving . At shorter ranges they don't see them as they're too quick. Some of the aerobatics they pull while hide shooting are quite something.

its not as such slow motion we wouldn't appear to be going at one third the speed they'd be able to see and process that we had moved 3 times quicker than us its only become slow motion if it was slowed back to the speed of a human eye. interestingly chickens also see faster than the human eye

As you Brits seem to say incessantly, "Brilliant"! Actually they are very remarkable birds. You didn't touch on their ability to navigate. And "stupid", well, believe me, that's relative, too. So, how do you prepare them for the table? Are British farmers concerned about the tons of metallic lead that you're dumping on their fields? Nothing like heavy metals in the food supply to enhance the intellectual abilities of the inhabitants of your island.
