I unbox and review the Wood River Cyclone Lid sold by Woodcraft. In this video I also show which garbage cans the cyclone lid will fit since that was something I didn't have a good grasp of before I bought the lid. I also test it out at the very end by hooking it up to my brand new Harbor Freight dust collector. All in all, I was pretty happy with the purchase.

one of the problems with this style of lid is that there is not any kind of baffle to keep the dust in the trash can. If the level gets too high, you will be passing all of the chips and dust straight into your DC bag.

Interesting. Never thought of that. I guess it’s just important to check the level.

Do you put the vacuum end on the elbow or straight piece?

Just asking for my own knowledge, what the purpose of filtering out the larger saw particule in a trash can when you already have a dust collection system with a large capacity bag? thx for the video!

The large material can get stuck in the impellar and different places in the blower and cause clogs or a fire

Any problems so far? I'm looking at getting one of these as well. The only design flaw I can see is the outlet, that goes to the vacuum, is not in the center of the lid. It's positioned pretty close to the cyclonic path that the particles will travel which increases the chance for some of the particles to be sucked into the outlet. With the outlet in the middle, the particles will circle around it, which one would think would decrease the amount of particles that could get sucked up. I've looked at a ton of videos on homemade cyclone lids and Thien baffles and such, and the outlet is usually in the middle, with very few exceptions. Given that, I was wondering what you thought about the performance of the Woodriver product now that you've had a chance to use it regularly.

No problems so far. Pretty happy with it. To be honest, I never even gave the placement of the outlet much thought. Now that you bring it up though, I agree a center outlet would be better. That being said, the only debris that seems to get through is very fine particles. The bigger stuff falls into the steel can. Ultimately, still very happy with it especially since it was somewhere around $35. There are probably better products out there, but none I’m aware of at that price point!

@@mepro123 that’s good to know. Thanks. I agree with you on the price. And right now, Woodcraft has them on sale for $25, till the end of February.

I was considering one of these, but it looks like 1/2 of the dust ended up in the bad anyway.

Yea, the finer dust continues on. But it definitely picks up the bigger pieces and reduces the amount going through the dust collect.

How do you like the dust collector so far? I'm thinking about getting it and putting it on the wall and connecting to a workbench with multiple tools. My channel has the vids. I hope it is doing good!

Hi, interesting video. I am totally blind and have no vision. I was listening to your video and I am having some difficulties understanding what happened to the bag that goes above the plastic bag? I have a Shop Fox W1666 dust collector An it has two bags. Do you have the trashcan with the cyclone lid on is there a bag above the trashcan still? Please advise. Take care thank you
