A very worth while project Mike. I am turning more everyday. Bowls at the moment because of the practice gained in turning them. I have one log which has not been planned for anything just yet. Who knows what will become of it.

Be sure to set aside some wood to dry for future spindle projects as you harvest your bowl blanks.

Hi Mike. May have seemed pretty basic insight to you, but I found the with to a larger bowl gouge on the lid because the smaller one was too light and caused bouncing a very good tip to us less talented. thanks for sharing. Dennis Beamish Cambridge Ontario Canada

Very nice jewelry box Mike. I like the contrasting woods. Looking forward to the flocking and partition video. BTW I don't care for the use of links that appear in the upper right corner from time to time. The problem is they are gone when I want to reference them after the video is over. Then I have to search the video to find them again. I would much rather you put the links in the comments section. Happy New Year. I have greatly enjoyed the past years and am now looking forward to 2020.

Thanks for that suggestion Glen. I try to follow the prevailing best practices but but one apprach does not fit all. I will experiment with putting the midroll video links in the show notes. Clicking on the i icon any time during the video will show all of the referenced vido links. The pop up messages are timed to show up when I mention the video but the links are always available by clicking on the icon. Try clicking on them. They should bring up the video in a new tab. You may have to stop it so you can go back to watching the original video. I find myself wrestling with some of these kinds of technology changes. When I start adapting to them, I usually, but not always, find an improvement. As always, thanks for your continuing support and comments. Comments like yours give me insights I would not gets otherwise.

I just went back and reviewed the video. Lo and behold there is an I icon there. I did not notice it before. And it works just as you described. Now that I am aware of the i icon it does seem very easy to use. I am now educated, well a little bit LOL. Thanks Mike.

“Problem solving one of the best parts of wood turning......”. Couldn’t agree more. I get more satisfaction sometimes figuring out how to resolve an issue than the project I was solving for.

I have a woodworking friend who enjoys making woodworking and woodturning jigs far more than he enjoys using them. I think the problem solving component is part of that.

A healthy, safe and wonderful Happy New Year to you Mike and yours. A big thank you also, for all your time and effort in putting your videos together. I have been an avid subscriber to your channel for quite a while now and learned so much - thanks again. I've just recently finished a three year wood turning course (one day, once a month for 11 months per year), I learned to make lots of different things. Also different ideas of how to embellish and colour wood turnings, also adding little extras to turnings to improve the finished item etc. Tuition regarding the most important lessons to learn in woodturning - IMO - tool techniques to improve my turning skills, were missing. Apart from one of my instructors/tutors (a big thank you Norm you helped me improve my basic turning technique within two minutes of showing me one of my problems), I have learned a lot more regarding different tool techniques to improve my turning from yourself and other excellent youtube contributors. For this reason alone - IMHO - a massive thank you for your tuition techniques and explanations in actual tool control and different ways to apply techniques in certain situations. Another thing I have learned from you, (and again other excellent youtube contributors) , to have as much knowledge as possible and be aware of why situations arise and different ways to deal with those situations can we deal with each problem under different situations and conditions correctly and safely. This sort of scenario in an education field of course can only be taught by a knowledgeable open minded tutor. Thank you for parting with your knowledge to allow novice turners like myself to improve on my skills in leaps and bounds. By having a basic knowledge about machines and tools in the workshop (and of course reading manufacturers detailed instruction booklets) can we wood turn safely. Only by a broadening our knowledge and understanding (also, dare I say basic science issues regarding the topic in question) can we be much safer and more proficient at dealing with situations in our hobby to end up (hopefully) with a stunning piece of finished work to be proud of. Regards and all the best Mike, please continue to post your work, help and advice, Tony Matheson.

Mike, excellent video as always. I wish you were in Arizona so I could take advantage of your one-one instruction. I have watched a majority of your videos and I have two questions that have been burning in my mind. 1) I notice you and a lot of other turners on KZbin have colored tape or paint on your tools. I assume it is some sort of color coding. Can you clarify? 2) you use a tenon gauge in many of your videos. Do you have a video or a write-up that explains how you came up with the measurements? I know I could put each set of jaws on the chuck and measure minimum for clamping and maximum for expansion holds, but I am thinking there must be an easier way. I only have Teknatool products. I have two G3 chucks and all of the jaw sets that will fit the G3. Thanks Mike! I really appreciate you!

I use a green duct tape to better identify my tools when I loan them out during workshops. I used the manufacturers documentation to provide the tenon/recess gage measurements. Thanks for your support.
