There are several things that I appreciate in your presentations: 1 you use millimeters (and inches), second you always give a hint on the overall dimensions, and third your explanations are thorough and very clear. Excellent illustration of a multi-axis project. Thanks !

Very cool set and really interesting approach to Christmas Tree turnings. Will keep this in mind for use in the future. All four of you each came up with interesting and quite different sets of things. Another enlightening Four-Ways project. Thanks to all of you.

Great explanations of the setting up and process Mike. Loved the little bit of maths first (arithmetic really which everyone should be able to cope with). Removal of waste first to oval shape is such a good idea. I’ll try this on my next one, I usually still make a cone shape but leave top fairly large to allow for bend in tree. I’ve even used diff axis points on top of tree to accentuate more even bends, but this needs to be a minimal distance. Still trying to perfect this though. I like to use the skew to cut the fronds first as this doesn’t leave any torn grain at base of next frond. I also start removal of waste for each frond close to the cut first as this reduces chance of gouge catching too much wood and then slipping into next frond. Ughh mess to clean up and reduced frond sizes.. I also use skew to refresh the cut before taking last cut with gouge so as not to leave torn and tear out grain. I’ve seen many of these done and most turners (in my opinion) have too much frond width on upper branches. I also find that distances between branches are more even than what turners make. I’ve looked at a lot of pine trees and branch spacing is pretty even except for top branches, which is definitely longer due to fact that top of tree grows before putting out branches so appearance of longer top. Thanks for sharing this Mike. Love your work

Lots of turning wood is not much of a silver lining in the hard hit areas, is it?

Great project, I have seen them before, Waukeene Vinson, but your explanation is quite good. We do a project at Christmas for the Zoo. I am going to have to practice that and incorporate it into my repertoire. My only critique is the knife with China on it. I prefer USA or German steel. LOL. Thanks and love the video. Harold Mills
